Subject: RE: MLB PlayoffsI kept going to sleep with the Mets in the lead and waking up to see that they'd lost. I figured they were toast after that crushing loss in game 1, so I'm not surprised it only went 5.
I think the Mets core of young pitchers will keep them in contention for a while, so hopefully they can get back there.
I thought the way Collins managed his bullpen, and especially the closer, Familia, was horrible. I can't put it all on him-- there was poor defense, and too many second chances for Royals hitters to take advantage of, but what was the closer doing pitching in a blowout game 3 win? And Collins initially told Familia that he was coming in to pitch the 9th on Sunday and then relented and let Harvey go out in the 9th, so Familia had to sit down after having gotten ready to pitch. I'm a purist also, and I'm annoyed by the overspecialization on pitching staffs, but it is what it is-- a closer's job is to get the last three outs. I thought Collins was too inconsistent in the way he used Familia from game to game and it can't have been good for his preparation.
I was glad to see the Royals win after last year's disappointment. They're a hard team not to like, even if you're rooting for their opponent. |
