Does anyone know what the official USAT rule is for men going shirtless during the bike and run? I couldn't find anything in the officialy rules. My understanding is you can still go shirtless on both the bike and run? Just trying to stay cool.

On the swim too.

There was a proposed rule change, but public outcry was so great that it never even made it to the table. Now we're working on extending the practice to both genders.

I would feel very sorry for any of the women that elected to run shirtless.  That would be like asking the men to run without pants, plenty painfull.

Now that would be a REAL ironman

Some races have their own rules on this - I know the one I did this summer had a rule that men must wear shirts on the bike and run. Of course my races have a different governing body and I'm not sure what their rules are on the subject.

For those interested - It is legal (as of about 3 years ago), for women to go shirtless in the subways of NYC. Not sure of the policy on men.

Yes - this is true

Yep, the Canadians DO require shirts. This is due to the offensiveness of the pasty white belly of the Canadian male.

If the women were topless, I dno't think that the men would have that problem.

I passed a guy on the bike on Sunday who was not only shirtless, but had a huge amount of back hair as well.  As I went by, I commented, "Nice sweater...does it come in a V-neck?"  I think it really cracked him up.

John, you are starting to sound like Skip.

The difference being that you don't represent the USAT.  And that you're right.

Only if you are talking about the bird, and not using a slang term for a certain part of women's (and some men's) anatomy.

 Peace,

if women went shirtless and men shortless, they would have to revise the entrance criteria to the Clydesdale category
