Heather, congrats on Syracuse, sounded tough. But I'm sure it will pay dividends for LP. With that said, I carry salt tabs. On the bike I have a lil plastic tube. They usually sell the tubes at the expo. On the run, I have used a tube in the past, but also have used a snack sized Ziploc bag and that worked well. Obviously you have to seal it well to keep the moisture out, double bag it if necessary or use a freezer type Ziploc as they are a little thicker.

Hope everyone is doing well and finishes up the training cycle strong. Fatigue has set in at times and the mental grind of training day in and out is also present. But, that is what makes Ironman training and racing interesting and unique. C'mon taper...

Is everyone ready???

Time to get excited. Play it in your head. plan execution of the race to a T. Know what you will do and if something happens, what you will do to accommodate. There are always surprises. Have a definite pacing and nutrition plan. Good luck all.

Taper soon...

Thanks or the temperature update.  Let's hope it stays these temps for another 15 days!

I'm ready Dale!  Got my last long run and long Bike in this week.  Going to cut my volume by about 40% next week.  TAPER TIME!!

Hope everyone else's training is wrapping up nicely.

Bobby that makes two of us. Last long ride is in the books. I'll wrap it up tomorrow with a spin on the bike and run and then it's on to the taper.

If I'm not ready now I'll never be ready for IMLP. I'm looking forward to it.

Hope everyone else is winding down the training and getting ready for race day. Two more weeks to go!

2 weeks from now we'll be under way. Noticed on IMLP Facebook page they had the water temp at 74.8. Was hoping for something a tad cooler, but not frigid. Oh well.

Hope everyone stays healthy and has a great recovery during taper.

You'll be fine in the swim at that temp, even if a bit warm, as long as it's a sleeveless wetsuit.
I'm much more worried about rain and lightning...Not hopeful about a repeat of a few years ago. And even if it's just rain, not excited about
zipping down Keene on slick roads.

I am ready for this to be happening now and taper madness hasn't even hit me yet-ha!

Hi guys. I am so thankful for the taper. I have battling tired legs for 3 weeks, esp on the bike.

My friend and I spent the long July 4th holiday doing Placid recon. If anyone has questions, get at me!

I am not strong on the bike (srsly why are they even letting me do an Ironman?) but have really challenged myself with hilly long rides since Spring and I am glad I did. I think the climb to Whiteface is killer and everyone else is like OMG papa bear! It is the cumulative effect, not any one single hill. The Keene descent was not as terrifying as I built it up to be, actually it was fun! It had stopped raining by the time we got there so I hope I never have to know what that is like in the rain - let me hope.

In all seriousness, can I get some advice on what people are putting on in T1 if it is cold and raining. I'm worried about staying warm if the weather is bad. It has been a prob on the bike in the past. Also I will still be running after it gets dark, do the temps tend to drop? I am a noob and have a lot of gear questions. I usually keep warm on the run but once I get cold on the bike - its rough.

As for the swim, I wore sleeveless all weekend and it felt colder than 70's to me. Mirror Lake is so beautiful and clean.

Happy Taper Time. Self care and eat something green!

Heather, you can always roll up arm warmers and compression socks or calf sleeves for warmth. Put in Ziploc and if you don't need them you can bring them w you on bike and put in bike Jersey pocket or put in special needs bag if you need them half way through (you prob won't get that bag back though). Light wind breaker also.

Getting excited to say the least, dropping bike off tomorrow for TriBike transport.

Heather,

I wore a light cycling vest 2 years ago, I was there for the rain and lightning that Dale mentioned above. It was also suggested to use tube socks with the feet cut off as cheap disposable arm warmers, that way you can just toss them at an aid station once you've warmed up.

I also stuffed the vest into my jersey pocket for the run but never needed it. If the weather looks like it will be cool in the evening you could always put a vest of light jacket in the Run special needs.

The Keene descent isn't too bad in the rain. Just keep in control, stay off the paint on curves and be aware of those riders that aren't.

Heather,
You'll be fine with proper preparation. Special needs bags are very important as a bail out. I like the suggestions of Chris and Tom above, but in reality, you will warm up quite quickly on the bike as it starts out with a few hills and although the temps will be cool, the day will get progressively warmer-unless it's raining all day, my personal biggest fear...I suspect you'll be downright hot on the second loop of the bike.

Hopefully it won't be hot like Syracuse was. I was there melting with you and that was a walkfest with people all over the road with their legs up on the run, right? Take care of nutrition and hydration as that is the important fourth element of long course TRI-athlon.

And Mirror Lake will be several weeks more into summer, so it will be like a bathtub. The nicest swim in IM they say, as long as there is no mass start, like in 2012 when I was there. THAT was interesting. Very happy for the change to a rolling start.

Let's get this party started!!

Can anyone advise on the sun situation during the swim. If it's up/rising will we swim into it, etc? Really like racing in clear goggles as they don't seem to fog up as bad or easier to see through.

This will be my third Lake Placid IM plus numerous Mirror Lake swims. I have had no issue with sun while swimming with clear googles. You will head North at the start and return to the South on each loop. The sun should already be at a higher angle by AM race time due to its Northern location. The lake also has mountains to the east that provide some early AM protection. Hope this helps and best of luck race day.

Congrats to everyone who finished on Sunday. Not my best IM by any means. Heat really did me in on the second loop of the bike course. Didn't have a good swim either but I did redeem myself and I had a very solid run. All in all it was a great experience doing IMLP this year even though I didn't hit my time goals I had a great time. Also the crowd support for this race is totally amazing. I posted a race report as well. Hope everyone else had a great race.

Tony, I read your race report, most excellent and congrats to you. Ironman strong!

I'm finally going to put my report together now. It was quite the journey to toe the line from the day I started training about twenty weeks ago until the finish line.

Take care everyone and stay healthy and positive.

Tom

start biking now, then when you thing you have built a good base on the bike, bike some more! When you hear it is all about bike fitness...it is! The course is challenging but doable if you prepare well. Oh, and find some hills to run, I failed to do this and it cost me dearly towards the end of the run.
