That's fantastic, nice work!

POL post.

Sorry that I haven't been around much. I spent 3 weeks in November travelling for work and then got a really nasty head cold that knocked me off my feet for a bit. I should have taken more time of work but its end of school year here and that means an endless round of budget meetings and end of year graduations as well as Christmas functions for me. Our new auditors also decided that doing an interim audit in December was a good idea.

We have our staff Christmas function tomorrow and then all of our teaching staff go on leave this Friday and I am hanging out for that to happen so that I can get some work done before I have the week of Christmas off.

Aside from all of that I had a great trail run on Sunday. I dropped back to the short course because I've been sick. I really enjoyed the run and I knocked 19 minutes off my finish time from last year. Its amazing what even a little bit of training and losing nearly 30lbs will do for your running. It was a great day with Mum and E and S too.

I hope you all have a great day.

That doesn't sound slow to me! 1:33 is a solid run. Congrats! I'm probably one of the faster runners in this bunch and I haven't seen 1:33 for several years in a stand-alone HM. (I did a 1:16 in my early 20's, but that was another age, another body, I think.) Probably won't see 1:33 again, either, unless maybe I quit tri and dedicated myself to running full time. Right now that's not my plan--neither body nor mind are amenable to it. In my case it very much feels like, "Been there, done that."

1:10 after a HIM bike sounds world-class! Pro men? They do this full-time, you realize, and are almost all physiological "freaks" to some degree. Not saying the pros, men and women, don't train really, really hard, but I have spent a lot of time around elite athletes in various contexts--it's not "just" a matter of training hard and being mentally disciplined and tough, but of having a physiology that allows them to respond to training dramatically (and withstand very hard training), as well as a certain amount of luck and timing, and in most cases, a tremendous support network. It's even true for the top AG athletes to some extent. (I've met some of the AG world champions for 70.3.)

We do the best we can with what we have. (Every time I look at myself in the mirror, or see my bike power numbers, I think, "And that's not much!" LOL.)

19 minutes off your time from last year is fantastic!  So is hearing that you really enjoyed the run and had a great day with your Mum and friends - Team Turtle!   Very big congratulations on the weight loss as well, that is super!

Lots of great stuff in this post (aside from the being sick part)

That's awesome! Congrats on both. It is kind of amazing what shedding even a little weight can do (or in your case, a big weight loss).

Yep the photo was from the race. It’s the first photo I have seen of me for many years that I have actually liked - and I look like I’m running not shuffling

Thanks! Unfortunately (haha) I read a decent amount about running and pro triathlete's and while I was happy with my time and effort, it makes me feel that a KQ is just so far out of reach. I also know a few top AG'ers and from what I gather, they seem to have endless time to train. I agree that we do the best with what we've got but I still strive to make it to worlds (when it's not on the other side of the world) and hopefully Kona someday.

Same frustrations here with Worlds/Kona. It just seems like in my AG, (there don't seem to be many women in it) you have to WIN to do that. And someone really good (at least one) always seems to show up! I tell myself that the next AG up will be better, but I doubt it. They'll just be older fast people!

Great! I couldn't remember the name of the program.

If anyone else has suggestions, please chime in! The training plan that I start next month has some yoga thrown in. Gotta be prepared, right?

That looks like a good program for athletes.
