A few years ago we did a mentor group on power training.
https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid...

I am thinking about doing this again but in a different format. I managed to secure the participation of a World Tour coach. Last year his athletes won a stage at the Tour de France and some of the spring classics.

0 cost.

Anyone one out there with a power meter and some sweat to spare ?

To anyone wanting to get faster on the bike I highly recommend participating in this. I did a few years back and I improved greatly and learned a lot about cycling with power.

Same here. Would do it again in a heartbeat if I was not currently working with a coach. That seems to work better for me as I really need someone to help me manage training effort/fatigue across the three sports, as well as address my weaknesses.

Thanks to both of you

I suspect some/many don't have power meters and are hesitating.

I think this is a pretty unique opportunity. Not very often you get free training plans from the same coach that is training pro tour riders. This is the guy that rode around the Tour de France last summer telling his guys to pedal faster :-)
He managed to convince one to win a stage.
Stage 15 if you want to look it up.

Very curious here as well.  I've had some pretty good gains in the off season, but for some reason the last couple of years have been tougher.  Would be interested in how a cycling coach approaches this.

The previous mentor group was awesome.  I don't have a tri focus anymore but this sounds so interesting, I'm willing to break out the KK Road Machine and put a trainer tire on my gravel bike and see what happens!

Hey Marc,

For those that might be hesitating because they don't have a PM, are you allowing people if they are using virtual power in one of the training platforms?  (e.g. TrainerRoad, Zwift)  I know I work with a number of athletes each year that don't have a PM but we get excellent results using virtual power.  Obviously they can't use it outdoors, but indoors for training, it's every bit as valuable as actual power (we won't get into the accuracy debate as it isn't really relevant in this context).

I'm a terribly poor cyclist and have only a power meter associated with my turbo trainer.
if this is sufficient to make me eligible to the training group, I am surely interested.

That's the only way I train on the trainer.  I did the previous group with just VP.

thanks for all the great responses.

Yes we can do Virtual power if people are properly set up to do so. I believe Virtual power works well. I have personall used it on a Kurt Kinetic with pretty good results. Howver I do believ not all trainers are equal.

Please fire me a PM and we'll figure out how to coordinate this. We will be starting early January

Cheers

Uh-oh...I'd better get in shape so I can physically survive the training.

I joined the Power mentor group a few years back with virtual power. I had a KK road machine, an ANT+ stick and free Golden Cheetah software. Saw big gains in my cycling.

And you'll need a speed sensor (the magnet ones) so you can track speed which translates to virtual power through the Trainer Road or other software.
