Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Had to be at race site 5:30- couldn't find ANY fresh blueberries locally so had to settle for peaches & yogurt, (This seemed important at the time!)and 2 slice of cinnamon toast, 1 1/2 cups coffee. Basically just walked around nervously & soaking it in, after pumping up tires and setting up transition area.Didn't sleep much - maybe 3 hrs.
Event warmup:

Just wlaking around trying to stay focused.
Swim
  • 15m 5s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started way back & to the side- then just looked for clearer spots. Mixed bag - veering off course w/ too much freestyle, plus having trouble w/ breathing, used more breast stroke than wanted to Not craxy about being run into & over by other navigationally challenged swimmers........
Overall tho- it wasn't as bad as I feared- and I didn't drown.
What would you do differently?:

Technique, Technique, Technique.
Speed.
Be more aggressive at start.
Transition 1
  • 05m 43s
Comments:

Back of t1 so had to traverse MANY rows to get out & in, TOO polite! People in front of me walking bikes too slow- just suffered behind them instead of going around due to narrow pathway...Need to work on jumping on & hauling out, and fitting in a decent drink instead of a sip.
Hated the sandy feet- need a better system for getting rid of sand.
What would you do differently?:

Practice.Be more "assertive".Better system for drinking and for getting sand off.
Bike
  • 43m 46s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

FUN!!
What would you do differently?:

Experience to be more efficient and effective shifting,Experience in group riding to be less timid about passing and more aggressive riding.

Transition 2
  • 03m
What would you do differently?:

Experience- Drink more, but I could have been a lot more "assertive" and gone faster on the course.Figure out end of bike to run effort level so start the run feling controlled & energetic.
Run
  • 25m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Disappointed in run. felt hr too high, fatigued - have been much more comfortable at twice the distance.Training brick w/ same bike/longer run felt GOOD, this didn!Need to figure this out. Had been looking forwrd to the run .
What would you do differently?:

Think hydration/energy a factor, but need to sort out HR etc. Also would go for it to sprint at end- held back in anticipation of target race in 3 wks - and of not throwing up at the finish line !
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, gradually sipped water, then watermelon eventually a few halfhearted stretches. Walked bike back to car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

?hydration? ? fuel? Not pushing harder for fear of failure!

Event comments:

Course seemed appropriate for first race.Well organized. Large field, but great camraderie.Nothing to compare as far as post race activities-wasnt really quite sure of what to do w/ myself afterwards- not ready to go home, but.....
Overall- great race for a first time female triathlete.

Wow, you did fantastic for a first race!  Those are great bike and run times especially.  You'll also find in future events that getting in and out of the transition area will be lots easier.  I noticed in general that this race had a lot of first timers who weren't sure of the routine.  There is quite a bit less of that in a mixed event.  Really sorry we didn't get to meet you, as I could have gotten a few more pictures too, but hopefully in another New England event!

YEah, I was sorry not to meet you all- truly I would never have attempted this without BT especially a few of you all who have been so helpful & supportive....
I had a really , really good time !!
Now I am trying to figure out how to train for my target race in 3 weeks that is longer ditances (3/4,15,4.2) and coed !!!
Don't think I posted this but "somehow" my helmet didn't get to webster with me- had to go to cycle shop in worcester (nice shop tho ! ) to get a new one- last thing I wanted was a new helmet for first race !!!

Outstanding first race... bummer about the helmet, but at least you got to buy a new one! Now you have two! Keep one in the car as a spare, perhaps? Great run... I'm in awe of people who run fast! Good for you... You'll do great in your next race... LW
