Suburu Outback.  It's free and the gas is paid for (company car)...but, it does get gas mileage in the mid 20's, has a bike rack on top, and plenty of room for wet wetsuits, gear, etc.  My other car is a convertible and therefor worthless for multisport.

But if you like the truck except for the MPG reason...why not get a 4 banger truck, something like a Nissan Frontier.  They are cheap and still get in the 20's MPG.

'99 Accord EX-L.  150,000mi.  Back seat folds down exposing trunk:  I can put my bike in the trunk after removing front wheel.

I have a Subaru Impreza Sedan.  I love it and can take both wheels off my road bike and get it in the trunk if I need to, otherwise it goes on the Rocky Mounts rack on top.  But, it sounds like a wagon, either the Legacy or Impreza would work better for you.

Subaru WRX Wagon. Love it! Only need to take off the front tire and it fits in the back with plenty of other gear.

2008 HHR SS!!!!! FTW! lol

My car is a bare bones model with a 5 speed and LSD. I LOVE IT!
Fold the seats down and you can fit all kinds of stuff in there. Plus highway mileage is regularly 32mpg and about 25/26 in the city. All together I average about 28mpg combined and I can break the traps at about 102mph @ 14.3secs for a quartermile, (yes I have a timeslip .....somewhere).

With 5 year/100,000mile warranty you can't go wrong, plus there's an employee discount! But I have to admit I am a bit bias. I work for GM and go to a college formerly known as General Motors Institute (GMI) now Kettering University.

Happy Shopping!,
Andy,

I'm kinda going the other way. I currently drive a '03 Accord V6 EX Coupe and looking to move to some sort of medium sized gas guzzling beast. Bikes fit fine on the accord, but I need a little more room for my dogs .

I've been eyeballing the FJ Cruiser, mostly just for the cool factor.

VW Golf TDI.  It's a 2003 with 83,000 miles on it.  No problems.  I get about 41 mpg in the city, higher for highway driving.  Plus, I can use biodiesel.

And the bike does fit in the back, but you have to fold the seat down and take a tire off.

also subaru outback -- (2001 wagon)  w/bike rack on top.  typically, if it is just me going to a race, i will just fold down the back seats and put my bike in, taking all of 15-20 seconds to do so.  if there are 2 people then the bikes go up  top.  great car for tri's!

Very similar, I drive Toyota's RAV4, which I consider a perfect triathletemobile.

Crown Victoria. The trunk was designed by the mob and a bike fits in the back seat without losing a wheel if you want to. What's not to like?

Acura RSX Type S

24mpg in daily driving, 0-60 in 6, and carries two bikes and a decent amount of gear (with the hitch mounted rack).

What's not to love?

Pontiac Vibe.

29 to 33 MPG, room for a fully assembled bike and all the gear I need. Put the bikes out the outside and my fiance and I can be gone camping and mountain biking for a week with all our gear. It has tie down points to keep cargo from sliding and can even tow a small trailer. I can't imagine a more versatile car that gets this kind of mileage.

Trek 2.1.   (Can't believe I'm the first smart to say it!)

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe (6 cylinder) .  I'm surprised at how much I love it! Decent mileage, built on a sedan chassis, drives like a small sedan.  With a Thule rack on back, plenty of room inside for 5 and a dog.  Very affordable, at least at the time.  New models may cost more (not sure), but they're WAY better looking these days.
