Total Time = 1h 00m 7s
Overall Rank = 10/60
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/10
Pre-race routine:

Early wakeup call at 4:10. Bob and Richard volunteered so we had to be there at 5:30. Just as well...I like a lot of time to set up my transition. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts to get Richard a donut and Bob some coffee.
Event warmup:

Light bike ride an hour before start. Light jogging later. Didn't really do much in the way of quick intervals.
Run
  • 15m 5s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't feel like I warmed up enough. 2nd mile not nearly as fast as the first (I always go out too fast).
What would you do differently?:

Warm up better and try to rein in the first mile a little better.
Transition 1
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Just a wee bit slower than usual. Don't think I could've gone much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 27m 27s
  • 9.96 miles
  • 21.77 mile/hr
Comments:

ABSOLUTELY THE FASTEST BIKE IN MY LIFE BY A LONG SHOT!!! I had the ride of a lifetime.

Several scary moments when we got bunched up and kept leapfrogging each other, but I've never even come close to a 21.3 average in my life!.
What would you do differently?:

Try to remember what today felt like so I can do it again!
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

Just a little slow. Pretty tired from that huge ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 16m 25s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

That big bike leg just wiped me out. I could see the other Sharon maybe a minute behind me when I did the short out-and-back U-turn and just kept her image in my mind to keep pushing me to go harder, since she's the faster runner. I had to count on my arms to keep me pumping because my legs were just spent.
What would you do differently?:

Work on speed at the latter stages of training so I can still have something left in the tank for the second run.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking around, drinking anything I could get my hands on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Speed in the second half.

Event comments:

This was not only the regional sprint duathlon championships (so my 2nd age group finish was a regional title), but also the final of the du series I've been in. I ended up winning my age group for the series. Got lots of cool stuff. A plaque, of course, plus sunglasses, a hand mixer, awesome duffle bag, Amino Vital, and some other stuff. All those toys may just have paid for my entry fee!

Most of the people I talked with after the race said they had a great bike (perfect bike course...not a lot of corners, no U-turns and no breeze) and lousy runs (very hot and humid).  I was in very good company today.  What a great day.

Sharon

Look at that bike speed!!! You were flying. Your runs and transition times weren't too shabby either, by the way! I can't wait til I get to your level...someday! Well, have fun at the aquathlon next weekend. I'm sure you'll do just as good- you're on a roll woman!

Great to meet you Sharon~ you looked awesome out on the run (sorry I didn't get to see you bike).  You just keep bringing home the hardware (and a mixer???)  Perhaps I'll see you at the aquathon-I'm watching the tropics before I register.  Again, super finish.  See ya 'round.

Congratulations Sharon!  What an incredibly fast race!  You sure do have a fast set of legs on you.   Nice PB on the bike too.  Sounds like everything was clicking just the way you meant it to.  Great race.

Congratulations - what a great race! Nice job on the bike, you must have been one of the people to go zooming by me puttering along I think I met you at the food table with Mimi (unless that was the other Sharon?) Maybe I will see you at some other races in the Fall - this was my first but I think I am planning on doing some more in the future. Good luck at the Aquathon.
