Subject: RE: PROCEEDS: June Bike Lots ChallengeWell, this is the really "awkward" part of the deal ... selecting which charity to donate to.
I humbly suggest that we donate the money to something other than the LAF. Why? Because everyone donates to LAF, and everyone and their sister will be donating this month as the TdF is taking place and all over the news. Plus, there is simply not a single person that has not been touched by cancer in some way. There will always be interest.
There are simply other charities that have as much need, but not the resources for generating funds. I will go out on a limb (a very safe limb ) and state that there will not likely ever be a shortage of cancer and/or AIDS research money.
I would prefer we give the money to a charity that desperately needs it. My initial thought was "Hey, what about Motivated's (Karl's ) charity that he's racing for?" Not many people, even those from BT, have pledged money to help him "race for charity". I have a soft spot in my heart for those charities that cater to kids and their families.
I vote for Steve's charity suggestion.
Again, we cannot go wrong with a decision here. An organization that is going to do great things will get a little (literally ) financial backing. IMO, it makes the most sense to send the $$$ to where it is most needed. My humble suggestion.
