Subject: RE: Best Running Shoes - 2008I can't say enough about the Asics 2100 series. I have been running in these for 3 seasons now. First of all, switching shoes a lot really increases your risk of injury. Your muscles and bones have developed around the movement of your shoes. Switching, especially in the middle of the season can lead to issues. So when I say I have been in the 2100 series for 3 years, this is particularly why. I haven't found a need to switch. I love that I can run 20+ mile runs on a new pair (no break in). Also, they are always on sale, in fact I just bought 2 pairs for $100 (regular price is $95). I go through a lot of shoes (every 4-5 weeks during IM builds) so price is a very big concern. One of the biggest defenses you can deploy against running injuries is to replace your shoes often. Now my only concern is that I can only get about 300 miles out of a pair. If I am running a lot of long runs (>17 miles) I can only get about 250 miles. I have done the math and mile for mile they are still cheaper with the fewer miles than the more expensive Kayano's. Early / pre-season is the right time to do some experimenting with a new shoe, so the time is right if you are thinking about a switch. |
