Pro 5761 Bartlett, TN | Subject: Judge rules infants name to be changed! What's in a name anyways? So the courts did this kid a favor by requiring the parents to change his name, but should that judge have the power to do this? This was surprising to me: "Messiah was No. 4 among the fastest-rising baby names in 2012, according to the Social Security Administration's annual list of popular baby names."
Living in Memphis, I have heard, seen and misspelled plenty of names, but while I agree that this is not a great name for a child, I also think parents have the choice to name their kids whatever they want.
(And I have kids, three of them, so I get an opinion on this) |

He is in their IT department and is one of the most popular employees in the company. Sad that a judge would take these steps. |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Judge rules infants name to be changed! As a pretty religious person I have no issues whatsoever with somebody being named Messiah. I don't necessarily agree with naming my kid that, but I can say that about a lot of names these days. lol It won't stand up in court, so I predict it will be overturned. |

(And I have kids, three of them, so I get an opinion on this) "A judge in Tennessee changed a 7-month-old boy's name to Martin from Messiah, saying the religious name was earned by one person and 'that one person is Jesus Christ.'" Meanwhile, there are a ton of people walking around named "Jesus". I wonder how she feels about that. She'd have to be an idiot not to know that it will be overturned. She's doing it for publicity and/or to make a statement. Edited by jmk-brooklyn 2013-08-13 12:28 PM |

Elite 3091 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Judge rules infants name to be changed! I believe the judge overstepped her bounds--especially with her comment about Christ "earning" the title. I kind of like the name. Could a judge ban the name Jesus or Muhammad on religious grounds? Edited by zed707 2013-08-13 12:44 PM |
