Subject: RE: Kona in MarchHaven't been there in March but lived on Oahu for a couple years and visited most of the islands....It shouldn't be rainy as Kona is on the dry side of the Big Island. To my knowledge all the islands have a wet and a dry side, related to the prevailing winds. Hilo is on the wet side. There is a very clear divide in the vegetation and climate at Waimea as you cross between the two sides of the island. Rainfall on all the islands I've been to also tends to be much lower down near the beach (where Kona is ) and greater up in the highlands. Unless there's a weird seasonal weather pattern I don't know about, I wouldn't expect a lot of precipitation. At least on Oahu, temps and rainfall were very similar year-round, with no clearly identifiable wet/dry/hot/cold seasons; variations with altitude and side of the island were much more noticeable than those from month to month.
You might post this on the Hawaii forum and see what responses you get--I think at least a few BT members live on the Big Island. |
