Oh man, sorry to hear about that...    Best thing is to get it healed, and then get back out there.  Silver lining is you'll be a kick azz swimmer

I cringed when I read that.  Sorry to hear that you'll be sidelined for awhile.  Do what you can, but try to enjoy some of that free time.

You'll come back stronger!

Wow... You'll be going through essentially what I'm going through right now -- starting all over again from a completely missed season. But they're giving you a good long-term outlook. Keep looking at that silver lining!

Oh man, I'm so sorry, Kristen. Hope the surgery and PT go smoothly... good luck, take care of that leg, and don't be afraid to vent to CoJ when you start getting cabin fever.

(FWIW: from what I hear, it's not uncommon to be able to walk with a torn ACL without much pain.)

Bummer.  But as some one said, you should end up a faster swimmer.

Keep up updated.

Kristen, I am so very, very sorry.

It's true, you might have to make good friends with swimming. But you'll be able to develop a heckuva aerobic base with that.

Might be able to do pool running faster than land running post-surgery.

In the meanwhile, many loving thoughts and prayers for you.

Sorry to hear about the knee injury.  The good news is that these types of knee surgeries are pretty routine now for most good sports medicine surgeons.   If you live in a town with a big time college football program find out who is the team orthopedic surgeon and go to him/her.  That person will be well aquanted with knee injuries.

When I did my first one I was a student at FSU, I went to the FSU football team orthopedic surgeon, best move I made.

Good luck...sorry

Oh geez, that sucks. I semi know what you're going through. Knee injuries just plain suck. Get in the pool as soon as you can. As others have said, you're going to the SH!TTY BOMB in the pool! (I paraphrase).

Kristen, well, that sucks. I'm really sorry to hear about the knee. Hopefully you'll be allowed to walk and keep up some fitness that way. Again, sorry to hear it.

Ouch, ouch, ouch. So sorry, K. I have had three knee surgeries and know what you're facing. While it's not easy, it's also not permanent. You will find things to focus on, and while it might not be tri-specific, it will give you new strengths and perspectives.

Swimming, weights, yoga...you'll increase your strength and your functional range of motion. If I know you (and I think I do know you) you're not going to be sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.

You hang tough, sister!

Poo. I have had long standing knee problems... for as long as I've had legs, I've had knee issues. Be good to your knees. Take the time to do whatever rehab they prescribe. Take the time to recover and don't push them. You will miss your knees when they are gone. ( I have limited ROM in both, leaving me unable to squat, kneel, or sit on my knees... I also look ridiculous trying to get up off the floor )

But I didn't take the appropriate time after my very first injury, to recover properly. I was in college, I didn't have a car to drive to PT, and I didn't care, quite honestly. I care now, though.

Frown

Good luck. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to swim. Work that upper body, girlfriend.

Best of luck Kristin...I have had that surgery x2 and with the rehab and technology today you will be as good as new when it is all over.

Enjoy the swimming and the extra time you can now spend at the park.

Sorry to hear that. I went through MCL reconstruction many years ago, and I've come back from major reconstructive back surgery.

FWIW, a friend of mine had ACL reconstruction a few years ago. 11 months later he did IM Florida, and that was after doing a marathon, HIM, and double century in the three months prior to IMF.

Stay positive.

Man that is tough.  You are a strong woman and will be able to overcome this.  I can understand a season coming to an end and you have given me som inspiration so let me return the favor. Follow the Dr's advice do not return to running too soon and ensure the Dr who will do the surgery is skilled I know you have limited choice but don't loose sight of the fact it is YOUR knee.  and think positive you can become a real monster on the swim.

Really sorry about your injury.  I've been sidelined before because of injury as well...it's not a lot of fun!  But listen to your doctors and PT and be patient.  You'll come back as strong as ever!

I know that feeling all to well.  Pick a long term goal, and be safe working toward it.  The emotions do run up and down, but if you have a goal and ultimate "I'm back" point in mind, it'll be the sweetest feeling when you get there.
