Extreme Veteran  443   Manitoba, Canada |  Subject: disintegrating swimsuitsDiscovered this morning that I was once again swimming in a suit with an entirely see-through back! I felt like I was always replacing my swim suits, so I decided to track mine this time, and it has lasted almost 4 months, approx 34 hrs of pool swimming. Is that the best I can expect? How long does your swimsuit last? This one was a TYR (78% polyamide & 22% spandex) and I also use Speedos, but don't think they last any longer. I always rinse it off afterwards (warm water in the shower .. would cold water really make a difference?) and hang it to dry. Any suggestions on other brands or material blends - or am I just being unrealistic to expect a swimsuit to last longer? |

I quickly went through a couple suits at first until I started using poly suits and they seem to go forever. They do eventually get thinner though, so you should still check now and then. |

Usually we would wear at least two suits while training, with the oldest and most worn on the outside. This would insure that any see-through spots on the first suit underneath were covered and the second suit would provide extra drag during training. Our race suits were only worn for meets. |

Extreme Veteran 510 Falls Church, VA | Subject: RE: disintegrating swimsuits Do yourself a favor and don't buy a 100% polyester suit. Look at the fabric makeup and get one that's a polyester/PBT blend (50/50 60/40 etc) PBT is also a type of polyester but has much more stretch than normal polyester, though supposedly slightly less clorine resistant. Makes the suit feel much more lycra-like. Speedo endurance is 60/40 poly/PBT and are the suits I use and haven't worn one out yet. There are other brands, name and house, that also use PBT. |

Keep in mind that I also swam, ran and played Ultimate Frisbee in them, so I was pretty impressed. BTW, they didn't wear out, I actually ripped them, so I can't really blame them for giving up  |
