Swim
Comments: I just went all out on this. I was 2nd out of the water overall, about 10" behind the first guy out. Was about 10" in front of the rest of the pack. I was even with the leader for a while. It was a cool feeling having the lead kayak right there. T1 was empty when I got there. I definitely gotta get to the front. I pushed my way up to the front line, inside at the start, and just held my position the whole swim until the first turn when I pulled away from the pack. Definitely a kick-ass swim. The time above is the time at the entry to T1 which was after a good little jog from the water. Stopwatch says I was out of the water in 7:59. If that's true I just obliterated my PR swim. I think the course was little bit short though. Either way, I'm happy. :) What would you do differently?: Hang on the leader's feet. I let him get away the last 200m. Transition 1
Comments: Hill right outside T1 ( literally ), so I put shoes on before getting on bike, rather than trying to put them on while going uphill. Took a bit longer than normal, as we had to stuff all our gear into a bag for them to bring to us at T2/Finish ( since this was a Point to Point race ). What would you do differently?: Coulda gone a bit faster, but didn't rush things. Bike
Comments: Yowza. Lots of hills. Being in the first wave and 2nd out of the water, and only a couple people out of T1 faster than me meant I was riding dead alone for nearly the entire bike. I was passed by 3 people, and passed nobody. Got lonely at points, when I look in front and see no one, and look in back and see no one. At least no bogus drafting penalties to worry about this time! Hah! Mooed at some cows when I went past. They just stared at me chewing their food. Held my ground pretty good on the bike, better than I did in St. Anthonys. What would you do differently?: Attach helium ballons to my bike so I can go uphill faster. I've got good power, but I'm a bigger guy than the spidery little cyclists that zoom uphills so climbs always make me work. Not much I can do to change that though. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was the end of the race for me. After talking to my coach about my achilles, and going by how it felt, decided that a hilly run was not the best thing to do with my A race, 1/2 IM @ Racine, 2 months out. So, I purposely left my running shoes in the car the night before, jogged out of T2 barefoot, and stepped off the course. It was actually harder than I thought, so I'm glad I took the advice of not leaving running shoes in T2 to tempt me. So, I became a spectator at that point and cheered for Steve as he came through a couple minutes after me ( he was in the 4th wave, I'm *not* faster than he is :D ). What would you do differently?: Not get hurt the week before so I can finish the whole race. :) Run
Post race
Warm down: Got some water and banana. Walked around barefoot in the grass, stretched. My glutes/hammys were tight from all the hills on the bike, so I stretched those a lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hurting my achilles. Event comments: The point-to-point logistics made this race a little annoying. Lots of waiting around for your stuff. Organization-wise, it was really good, just the reality of it made it a bit interesting if you weren't in the mood to sit around for a couple hours post-race while they brought stuff around for you. Everything went off on time, and the course was closed to traffic ( in the direction of the race ). Lots of volunteers and police out at every intersection to keep cars out, so hats off to them for making it a great day. I made sure to wave or say thanks to them as I went past, most of them waved or cheered back which was cool. Last updated: 2005-05-13 12:00 AM

Up at 6. Clif bar, starbuck doubleshot, and odwalla superjuice. Walked over to the parking area from my B&B, met up with Steve and we caught the shuttle to T1.
Got about 20 min swimming in. Sighting practice and drafting practice w/ Steve. I was in the first wave ( woo! ) so I finished my last swim with a quick sprint about 10 min before the gun.
