Total Time = 1h 26m 13s
Overall Rank = 83/83
Age Group = Men 30-39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Myoplex shake, an orange and my last packet of GU (good riddance) about 3 hours before race start. Went back to bed for another 30 minutes. Listened to "Pretty Hate Machine" on the way to the race (a whole 20 minutes).
Event warmup:

After checking in at registration, I jogged back to the car, put my number belt on, took one last eGel with some water and jogged around city island once for a total of 1 mile warmup at my "race pace" (14:00 minutes).
Run
  • 1h 26m 13s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 13m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Everything felt "fair to midline" today. Nothing spectacular, but my knee didn't bother me too much so that was great. I was a little ticked off by some people that were cutting the course and not going the whole way to the turnaround. I don't know if they dropped out or turned in their numbers for a finish time, but I really hate cheaters! It felt really good to pass them at the 2 mile mark though. Especially when they cut 1/4 mile off the course 1/2 a mile into the race :) THAT, is my athletic (loosely) grand achievement. Well that, and the fact that I ran the whole race!!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I ran at my own pace and just did my own thing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little bit and ate some banana and orange pieces that they had at the finish line along with some cold water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much. I'll get faster as I decrease my weight and increase my fitness, so I'm not worried about it.

Event comments:

Very friendly volunteers. Water station at 2 miles, 4 miles and the end. Paramedic staff on hand too. Very well marked course (every mile and all turns). My first 10k, so that's an automagical PR for me :) My goal was to be satisfied with anything under 1:40 and ecstatic with anything under 1:30. Looks like I did OK.

Geez, you guys are relentless... Here's a pic of one of the freshly shorn legs - and no, I don't have club feet. I had to get up on my toes in order to twist both halves of me in opposite directions to take the picture

Congrats on beating your best case goal time! Good job.

Now, about the legs...I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy. But dude, shaved legs on men are so not metal.

Um, yeah, about those metal days... I'll have to see if I can dig up some pictures. I bet Huskyboy (Rob) might have some blackmail "long-haired-hippy-metal-freak" pictures of me somewhere. *sigh* College memories :)
