Who's in for this year's MTB Barn Burner on June 19? 104 miles on non-technical forest service roads, in 4 loops of 26 miles, around Kendrick Mountain north of Flagstaff. You can register as a team of 4, duo, or single.

My greatest fear as I have only limited time on my MTB and although it says beginner - I read 104 miles as a long day for someone like me.  I have yet to hear of any pardner/posse opportunities to consider.

Jerry, you can so do this ride.  You have the heart of a lion, mind of a Ox and determination of Salmon swimming upstream, I have no idea if that even makes since…  However, if I did it you can..

I read somewhere that the elevation is somewhere between 7100 and 8100.  There is four 26 mile loops so the couple of 7% grades can be done four times each.  It is a matter of if you are doing all 8 climbs alone or splitting the load.

Subject: Barn Burner alternative - Gaspin in the Aspen
For anyone who doesn't have a mtn bike and prefers a trail run instead, the Gaspin' in the Aspen 15K trail run is being held the same day as Barn Burner at the Nordic Center in Flagstaff.

I'm already signed up for Gaspin so I have something to do while Dean's at Barn Burner.

Afterwards, there's a group of us runners who are going brewery hopping in Flagstaff before meeting Dean at the Barn Burner finish line.  And we'll probably do a little bar hopping afterwards, too.

Here's the info:  http://www.flagstaffnordiccenter.com/gaspin_summer.php

After Barn Burner I might be in for the bars, without much hopping though. I ride a hardtail. Ouch.

And I can highly recommend the Gaspin' in the Aspen 15K Kim's talking about! Beautiful race in one of the most scenic spots in Northern Arizona. You really run through lots of stands of Aspen trees. The trail is a bit uneven in some areas. If you have ankle issues wear your braces.

Don't worry about not having rear suspension Astrid.  My old mtn bike doesn't even have front suspension.  It will be fine!

Roll Call. Going through the thread I came up with this list:

Solo:
Andy (Chile7473)
konaboy9
Dean (rotordean)

Pardners:
Chris (Cordova61) and Jerry (perkins_jerryw)
Jen (sportyj) and Josh (robot)
Jamie and Amanda (non BT)
Astrid (SauseEnte) and Kurt (non-BT)

Is that accurate? Anyone else we should be looking for? Who's planning on camping? Weather looks perfect right now. Long-term forecast calls for mid 70s and no rain/snow or major wind events!

Just found a dog-sitter so I think I will be car-camping at Barn Burner instead of getting up super early and driving in the morning. Anyone else?

The athlete list is long! It will be a huge event.

There are a bunch of us runners doing the Gaspin race who are going to head over to Barn Burner to be there when the beer garden opens at 2 p.m. Barn Burner has a beer sponsor (New Belgium), wine sponsor (Barefoot wines) and a tequila sponsor (forgot who). These dudes know how to PARTY! We will be cheering you guys on... if we can recognize you through our alcohol-induced haze.

Anyone need a carpool up? I am going up Fri evening, probably camping, going to Gaspin Aspens, and back to Barn Burner. Will return to Phx Sunday morning (maybe after hiking Humphreys?).

I'll be right with you. I'm doing the 1st and 3rd loop so I should be done by 2 p.m. or not too much later if all goes well. My pardner will do the 2nd and last loop.
