Giver  18427     |  Subject: To go along with the "lefties" thread...How do you rank yourself, if "1" is as flaming liberal as you can get, and "10" is as staunchly conservative as you can get? Once I get a bunch of responses, I'll apply some fancy statistics and we can really see exactly how BT leans. |

I used to vote Republican and was actually registered as one because I agreed with their economic policies, but I've become totally fed up with the party being taken over by those who would take away personal freedom and push religion. I am now registered as an independent and I call myself an independent/libertarian. I guess some would call us moderates. |

I thought that if I had to believe their crap to be considered a socialist, then I am clearly not one. Also, I think unions can go too far, government should think more carefully about taxation and not everybody needs a government department to help them through whatever problems they may be having. OTOH, I believe the entitlement of the corporation over individuals is the single worst thing that society could allow. I think we as humans waste our resources and often use rationalizations to justify it. I think we, as a society, have forgotten that society is made up of people, so we love things more than we love ourselves and each other. |

For me, it isn't necessarily spending on social programs, it is spending efficiently on social programs and other aspects of government that make me conservative. Too many people think politics/government is a cut and dry or black and white issue. I think a lot of grey exists. |

I do not want to make this into the next mexico. mexico has more millioniars then the us does. CAn not have a huge seperate between rich and poor. I define "social" as "personal freedoms and choices." This includes free speech, religion, stuff like that. What you call social programs I call "entitlement" programs (welfare, Social Security, etc.) and I place those under fiscal policies because they require an expenditure of taxpayer funds.
