I'm a movie addict. IMO you just can't have enough movie threads, either. Here I want you to list 5 of your favorite movies to watch. The ones you just can't turn off if they are on. Or if you have a night alone you would go rent one to watch. They don't have to be good movies, or classics. Just 5 of your favorites. Feel free to post more than once. Umm - edited to add that knowing this crowd please leave XXX movies off your list.
Hopefully we get intrigued by someone else's list and go see something we wouldn't have otherwise.
My first list:
Tombstone (Val Kilmer turns in the performance of his life as the best cowboy on film in the modern era.) "I have two guns, one for each of you." There's more memorable lines in this move than in Caddyshack. (Not saying its funnier, relax Caddyphiles).
Running Scared - Billy Crystal/Gregory Hines version. The funniest buddy/cop movie you'll ever see and there are almost no quotable lines from this film. But you will laugh all the way through and who doesn't love Jimmy Smits in his first major film role as the evil drug dealer?
The Sting - some people just don't like old movies. If you're lucky enough to watch an original release of the video you'll hear Redford call Newman "a f--- up" instead of a screw up as dubbed later (in the scene when they first meet.) Favorite line (Newman as Shaw): "Sorry I'm late boys, I had to take a crap!"
Forrest Gump - So much about this movie but I think what hits home is that we long for the ability to go back and experience the world with the wide eyed innocence that Hanks moves through the events that shaped our times with.
Unforgiven - I know that this could be in the thread about "great" movies that you hate. Most people think its boring. I'd sit through it twice just for the scene with Gene Hackman kicking the snot out of Richard Harris and then the finale. But I enjoyed the whole thing. I thought it was a masterpiece.
Tombstone and the Unforgiven - - -absolutely!
Others I have to watch when they're on:
Die Hard - the first one. Alan Rickman is awesome and this movie is just great.
Godfather I & II - great movies and I can't seem to turn them off. I could even add GoodFellas to this. It's hynotic.
This one is a little embarassing - Starship Troopers. It's such a bad movie, it's a train wreck. The acting is bad, the script is terrble, but the special effects are great and I cannot bring myself to change the channel. I should really own this one, but that would be a crime to purchase this one. It does have Doogie Howser in it.
And speaking of Doogie, I also like Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Almost for the opposite reasons above - the acting is better, the script is great, and the special effects are HORRIBLE. But that's part of why it's great!
