you figure they could cover it with something, a long piece of outdoor carpet, especially if its wet out. What if a ship is comming through, i wonder if thats ever happened during the race. I dont think they can shut down a shipping channel like that.....

They cover the much shorter stretch of grating as you leave Wrightsville Beach with that stuff and if anything, it's worse than riding on bare metal! My m.o. for that very short bit of the ride has been to make sure there aren't any other riders anywhere near me. . All in good, clean fun.

Race is starting to feel real! Good luck to all with your training.

Here is the full route for this year.Little different. The course will be in the opposite direction from years past (once you get up on 421). Also the Full will not go on Blueberry at all this year, which is great b/c the road surface on those 3-4mi is pretty rough.

I believe it is illegal to ride on an interstate. Setup actually gets federal permission to close it down on race day. Besides, I think you would be taking a bit of a chance riding on an interstate with semi trucks going 70mph going by you.

You are not going to learn to much pre riding that section, it is flat smooth road. Just add 12 odd miles to your ride once out in the country.

I got a quality 4 hour ride in today before getting a call with a sick kid at home. My 4 hour ride was on a ton of hills and rollers so I'm at least telling myself that a 4 hour hard ride on hills is the equivalent of a 4.5-5 hour ride on flat roads! We'll see how that works out for me on 10/20!!!

No no, I meant a 4 hour training ride on hilly terrain is equivalent to 4.5 - 5 hrs of flat training. And I'll find out in 10/20 if that philosophy is correct lol!

It might be flat but remember that there will be wind which can be just as hard as hills.

Hey, is it just me or is the B2B ticket reservation page broken? I tried to reserve the bus and buy pre race dinner tickets. It added them to cart but didn't check out. Maybe the page is under construction.

I'm guessing it's down.  They just added tshirts to the shopping area last week it seems.  I hope that they have more swag at the expo!

I'm sure buying the tickets at the expo won't be an issue.  Maybe email them as they are pretty responsive to emails.

The last two years I was at B2B, tickets to the Sunday brunch sold out. But that was when it was held on that ship that did the river tour. I'm guessing there might be more space on the Battleship, but I don't know that.

Dang - I thought we were gonna have a BT'er throw down a new course record (it's about 4:35 right now). I do seem to be struggling with my reading comprehension lately. Your post was very clear on my second read - sorry.

In 2009 it was only the right lane that's closed down, there was still traffic in the left lane cruising by.  Thank god they had those protective orange cones out there for a protective barrier.  The traffic wasn't moving all that fast though.

You are right, they do not completely shut it down.

Like you said,2009 shut down right lane. In 2010 they had you ride in the left lane (i guess so people in cars could still exit on trhe right)

Just a word about those cones: Every year, someone get too close and goes down after making contact..probably momentary loss of control caused by blasts of wind from cars/trucks going by. Give those cones a WIDE berth. No reason to ruin your day when there was plenty of space off to the left.

Are the dinner and brunch things I should consider?  I know a lot of people that will be there and I'm not sure I want to commit to that if there's something more interesting going on.  I'm not counting on needing to be at awards. lol. Opinions?

Also, if I have someone to drive, I don't really need a bus for anything, right?  I'm at the Hilton.

jessica71980 - 2012-09-07 4:00 PM 6 WEEKS!!!!

Plenty of time, plenty of time!!!  I find that I do much much better when I keep a solid base and then just focus like a laser beam the last 8-10 weeks before racetime.

2.5-3 hr run tonight and a 4.5-5 hour hilly bike ride on Sunday.

Is it too early to start praying to the weather Gods????

I've been doing that for months. I'm optimistic.

Heed comes in regular style bike bottles and water comes in Deer Park sport cap (flip top) bottles that you buy at your grocery store.
