Very cool - as a Cdn it would have been awesome to meet the first Cdn Grand Tour winner.

And the holder of the Haleakala record

I told him I was going to take his record down...LOL.  He usually spends some of the offseason each year on Maui to train.  I also think he holds some type of training camp there.

Just added Jason to Iron Tracker. 9 splits on the bike and 11 splits on the run - this is going to be a fun day!

Good luck Jason.

So coverage is about to start - who besides Jason are you all tracking?

I am following my next door neighbor Scot Hollonbeck (#151) and local Haley Chura (#137). Scot was injured when hit by a car while riding his bike as a teenager. He went on to win 2 gold an 3 silver olympic medals as a wheelchair racer. He only found out that he was going to get to race Kona as one of 5 guys in his division about 6 weeks ago - I cannot imagine....

Haley is a first year pro - she ought to be at the front coming out of the water.

A colleague of mine has a shot at the overall AGer. #1191
A couple of guys I trained with...one who I managed to beat 2x (70.3 and Oly) this year
A guy who I have done some coaching with as well.

I want to see Jordan do well on the swim. I will postpone my bike outing to see that. Then I am off for a ride.

I remember Haley from Knoxville a few years ago. I think it was a 3 min lead due to wave start and felt like she went by ~5 min in. Cripes she was moving. Took more than 45 miles of the bike to catch back up.

That's a really great time -- looks like all the swim time he's put in has really paid off!

Looking forward to following his (fast!) bike split

Jason is through 90 miles.  On pace for a 5:50ish bike split if my math is any good.

Arend - my math says the same - go, go, go Jason!

Just heard an interview with AJ from training peaks - they are grabbing computers off the pros bikes as they come in to T2 - very interesting stuff. Last year Luke McKenzie went 290w on be way out then faded on the way back in but eventually built back up to 230w for the return split. This year he went 270w on the way out and the. Built to 290 on the return trip. IF of .80 - so far it is showing on the run....

If Jason has stayed on target he should be rolling in to T2 within 5 minutes or so, I think. I swear - following folks via the tracker is kinda like watching nasa land men on the moon....

Looks like your colleague pulled off the AG win with an 8:40ish time.  That's incredible!

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
