Would there be any advantage of using a zipp 1080 over a zipp disc? Or, would the aero advantage go to the disc on this course? Wow, do you really have all those wheel choices? I am green with envy! I am using my stock bike wheels, with the wheelbuilder.com aerodisc covers on the rear (poor man's disc wheel). Hate those covers because they are such a freakin pain to put on, but I think they do make me faster. Since there's no climbing on this course, why would you not want a disc? Wind? |

I am using a disc cover, but if I had a disc I don't think I would even consider anything else. Is a disc that much faster than a 1080????? Who knows how much, but it is faster and if you are not going to use a disc on the B2B then I would not know of any course you would ever use it on. So now you can just mail it to me. |

To the best of my knowledge, the parking lot at the Battleship is always open...Yes the parking lot is open but if I recall from last year the traffic was pretty backed up trying to get in and out of the Battleship once the run started. However, b/c they are not using the Cape Fear Bridge for the run this year it may be better. You won't have your bike on Saturday morning though? It'll be at T1 down at the beach??? |

There are only two hotels downtown (near the finish) but you may want to look into renting a condo at Magnolia Greens in Leland which is just 6 miles or so from the Battleship (finishline). There are hotels down at Wrightsville Beach...and some not necessarily on the beach but closeby. Check out the hotels near Mayfaire Towncenter which is only 4 miles or so from the start. |

Actually...I think it is a Hilton Garden Inn? And, it's close to TrySports and Bike Cycles so if you need anything triathlon related last minute you'll have lots of shopping options. Not too mention lots of good restaurants to chose from the night before the race. |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Coldfire - 2009-10-07 10:37 AM Just wondering, who is planning on using a disc at B2B? I'll be using 50mm carbon tubies front and back. Would there be any advantage of using a zipp 1080 over a zipp disc? Or, would the aero advantage go to the disc on this course? If it's really windy the 1080 would be slightly easier to control. The disc will be faster, but it could easily be less than 2 minutes over the 112 miles. The 1080 is a very good wheel and will get you close to a standard disc wheel. If it's really windy you might want to think about running smaller wheels. I don't know at what point you can't keep 1080's or a disc on the road and I'm not so sure I would want to find out. Here is copy of the Zipp flyer that gives you some data: http://www.spinlitecycling.com/ZippAeroEdgeFlyer.pdf Note that it is @30 mph and your speed will be less and therefore your time savings will be more. |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread OK I had a question but looking at the map I think I answered it. We're staying on Wrightsville Beach at the Sunspree Resort. So I can just walk (or grab a quick ride) down to T1, right? Now will my friend be able to get to downtown after the race has started? I mean, if she wants to see me come in and out of T1, can she do that then take off and go park someplace downtown, explore for a bit, then make her way over to T2? Or will the roads be shut around the T1 area making it impossible for her to get around that morning? Also, is there going to be a BT get-together at this thing so we can all say hi and know who to look for on race day? If so it'd have to be on Friday afternoon, I reckon. Holy carp. A month today. Yikes. Edited by mr2tony 2009-10-07 3:59 PM |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I'm getting in on Friday in time for the 2pm athlete meeting. I'd be in for a BT gathering. This place got good reviews on Google maps, has a varied menu, (beer, tho who drinks that the night before a race?) and has party rooms: http://www.fattonysitalianpub.com I have to have dinner at 5pm, not much later. |

The wonderful doctor gave me a prednisone shot and oral dose - so far my eyes aren't swolen shut anymore, but I am still getting new break outs all over. I go back tommorow to see what else we can do. Made it through the century ride yesterday but wow - dried sweat = extra itchy!! |

I figured if it cleared up by noon I'd go. No luck. So here I am, a month before the race and only one 83-miler under my belt. Will I EVER get in my century??? |

How does the weather look for next weekend? Can't imagine a 6 hour trainer ride either, but might be worth HTFU'ing if you can. You know, I read an article once that said shorter workouts with high intensity bursts are as good for endurance as long slow training. I don't necessarily believe it, but maybe you could do 3 hours worth of spinervals DVDs on the trainer and it would equal a 6 hour ride outdoors. Might be worth a try if it's all you got! I have done 2 hours worth of Spinervals, and I was suffering so much that I didn't have time to get bored. Edited by keyone 2009-10-12 1:23 PM |

I'll be right there with you with only one 95 mile ride and lots of 50 milers under my belt. This last training weekend looks bad weather wise so I am going with a 4 hour higher intensity trainer ride. Luckily I have a computrainer so it takes a little of the edge off the ride but wow, I'd better get my netflix order in now!! This fall race stuff is rough for getting the biking in outdoors!! |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread The weather in Michigan has basically been crap most of this year and our fall season which normally has some pretty decent days has been bad this year. The last two weeks I've been on the trainer for my long rides and have managed a 5 hour and 6 hour and 20 minute ride. I'm due for a 6 hour ride Thursday and see the forecast is for 49 and rain, so looks like I'll be on the trainer again, thou making it back to 6 hours on the trainer could drive me over the edge, so I added some intensity to todays 3:30 ride. Not to mention I haven't had an OWS in a few weeks now and with temps in the 30's overnight I'm sure the lake we normally swim in has gotten quite cold. Guess it's time to order the bootys I hope my bad weather karma doesn't follow me to NC |
