fattyfatfat - 2010-01-26 10:59 AM Chris, Barry, Steve.  What day did you go to briefing last year?  Was bike check on Saturday nuts?

I was planning on arriving in Saluda, SC (~hour from Augusta) on Saturday morning.  But now I'm thinking a Friday arrival might be better.  I really wish they had something later that 6pm on Friday evening.  Yes I know it a ways out but we're debating whether to drive or fly and we're getting a beach house down on sullivans island or folly the week after.  SO the planning has to get moving.  Thanks.

I went to briefing on Saturday early afternoon then took my bike down for check in.  Check in was not a big deal, but it is about a mile from the hotel.  Did a nice jog back.  Briefing was fairly easy to get in and out of, but packet pick up was a bit of a pain in the rear.

Are you staying at the Marriott?  I have a reservation for Saturday night, may stay economy on friday coming in, but it was very convenient to be at the host hotel.

thanks for the info.  are you planning on doing the same saturday thing again this year?  yes marriot sat and sun night.  not sure about friday night yet.

tahrens - 2010-01-26 6:53 AM I have my own pet peeve with New Year's resolution people at the gym.  GIVE IT UP ALREADY!!!     Please don't misunderstand me, I'm very supportive of people getting in shape and trying new things.  But those people that are hanging out on the treadmills having very loud conversations with the people next to them (neither of which are moving their feet btw) or those that sit in the core exercise area, surrounded by their collection of equipment, and are texting the whole time - they need to go!! They are clogging up the gym!   This weekend there was a couple practically making out in the lap lane pool.  I'll share a lane with some dude walking over the lovers anyday of the week.  The new people who are really into it are great to see, the rest are extremely annoying!!  Sorry if this makes me sound like a horrible person.

i just threw up a little bit.  that is just wrong.  i find if i get to the gym by 5am, i do not encounter these people...however i know lots of you guys have kids and cannot get there at those hours...sorry guys.  they will be gone by mid february, right after valentine's day comes and goes...

and no, it doesn't make you horrible, just honest.    that being said, i opted for an after work swim today in order to avoid the yucky gym pool and go to the college lap pool hours.

hope everyone had a great weekend.  it is only tuesday and i am at close to 6 hours of training this week!  the joy of an early season HIM!

It does, you and Trevor both.   I have to remember to exercise patience with my fellow human beings - not everyone has their crap together as well as me...  Now the ones spinning their sweaty clothes in the swimsuit dryer - they have to go!

Spinning sweaty clothes in the swimsuit dryer.....I thought it was odd when I first saw it and now think it is pretty gross......guess folks don't think about it too carefully.....Thing is, I never saw that done till the last month or so.....

I would say that if it works out for everyone, we could schedule a short ride saturday and then come up with some place for us all to grab a bite for dinner.  Just a thought, but last year the sunday night room at the marriott was around 200 a night, and EVERYBODY seemed to clear out after the race.  If I end up staying sunday,  I am going to go economy on sunday.

I am coming in on friday. Plan on taking friday off from work and driving downn with a buddy that raced it last year and is racing again. His wife may be coming with him. We booked two separate rooms just in case and will cancel one if his wife does not come. A lot of people from this area are racing Augusta this year.

It is funny you posted this, because I have been thinking very similar when at the pool recently. On my long swim the other day, there was a very large couple in the lap lane next to me, and they were making out and inappropriately touching, it seemed every time I swam past them I was rotated that direction.  I did throw up just a little watching it.

I just about complained at the gym as it was borderline inappropriate anywhere in public.  I went home and told my wife about it and also came upon this.

Ladies who are worried about looks while in a bathing suit: Your tankini does what it is supposed to when you are on land and it is dry.  If you are going to be in the water, please take note that loose fabrics tend to float with water movement, thus counteracting everything the top tries to accomplish.  You would be better off wearing a 1 piece if you knew what others in the pool could see.

1. I also am not fond of new year's resolution lovers kissing in swim lanes and making people puke. I'm not a fan of the dorks who stop in swim lanes to talk to to the lifeguard because they are in dire need of attention. I am not a fan of people bringing their children to adult lap swim and insisting the kids play in the shallow end of the swim lanes. I don't like it when people camp out on machines....it's rude. Most of these people also don't realize that you should wipe-down the machine when you are finished (on the remote chance that they even broke a sweat - talking typically doesn't produce a sweat).

2. I forgot what I was going to put here. Oh...I know what it is! People are putting their sweaty clothes in the swimsuit dryer?!? OMG! I'd probably lose my cookies! I would definitely ask management to place a sign above the machine that saying "Swimsuits Only."

3. Did my first real brick today. 10 mile bike ride, 2 mile run. You can see my time in my training log/blog. It's not as impressive as all you in-shape people, but I'm pretty proud of it considering I've only been training 7-8 weeks and couldn't run 100 yards/swim 25 yards when I began

Trina - that is soooo AWESOME!!!!  You are doing great.  BTW - In this MG, you are not allowed "downplay" your accomplishments when you compare yourself to others.  (Just be glad I caught it before Suzy...)  We area all supre proud of what you have accomplished so far!  BTW - I am doing the OCCC sprint as well with my sis-in-law (her first tri...)

Awesome job Trina!  10 bike /2 run is great!  At one point, we were all where you are.  Keep up the good work.  How did your legs feel off the bike?

To your #1...
I saw a girl a couple weeks ago who would swim 50m then stop and text.  Swim 50m and text.  That lasted for another 30 min.

I am still up in the air on doing Augusta.  With Louisville 4 weeks prior, I don't know if I will be ready, plus I don't know how happy the wife would be.    Still, if I don't do it, I will be there Sat night and Sunday cheering you guys on.

Talking about gross and inappropriate behavior in the pool..  There is an senior facility next my gym and needless to say there are some very old people that go to my pool (i think that's a great thing).  The part that I don't like/really gross is there is a man who's at least 90 that wears white or yellow boxers in the pool and a lady who's also at least 90 that wears a string bikini (and bright pink lipstick).  EVERYTHING sags at that age.

Wow, am I ever lucky!!! My pool (YMCA) is more crowded these days at 5:30am than in days past, but since I am one of those who hadn't swum in awhile I am partly to blame. But our lifeguard rocks... Last week things were getting downright congested with a few swimmers, mixed in with some older folk and some floaters (no make-out couples at that hour, as Kim said). Our lifeguard totally took charge and threw 4 of us swimmers in one lane where we promptly coordinated send-off times based on the workouts we were doing. Yeah, it was more crowded than I like (narrow lanes and only a 4-lane pool) but it was great to get the workout done around people closer to my speed. She got the other swimmers all set, got the floaters in their lane, etc.

This morning I just got to share with another swimmer, so nice and comfy. I don't like to complain as several of the morning-goers are true swimmers (and do Masters the other mornings), one is my husband's running partner, and most of the folks there are actually working out. If I go later in the day I run into the water joggers taking up a lane, people teaching friends how to swim, etc.

Ditto. To add to this if we were comparing ourselves to each other thn I think one of my legs weiighs as much as Ryan at 132 lbs.!

I'm totally behind on the MG and not going back to read everything, but Trina you are busted.  NEVER EVER are you allowed to downplay your accomplishments.  We are all in varying stages of the sport of triathlon AND every piece of progress is valuable and we all think it is fabulous.  I seriously stopped making fun of my swimming at the urging of my coach and got better. Am I fast? Hell no, but I 'm good .   It is all about the psychology--positive mental attitude with no comparisons is what makes this group great!

Masters or no masters?

I am contemplating joining the masters again this semester.  I do feel like I get a great workout in and it is motivational.  Hate all the kicking and Medley drills, but I skip alot of that crap anyway.  I can always just swim laps, but wondering how much the INTENSITY of the group really helps.  Time to start swimming...one way or the other.

fattyfatfat - 2010-01-26 11:59 AM Chris, Barry, Steve.

Thanks.

I went to a Fri briefing and it was a BREEZE.  Went right into packet pick-up and then on to Transition to bike check.  We actually showed up about 1 hour before the stated start time for checking bikes and breezed through that as well.

One thing that helped us on race day was buying a parking pass at check-in.  We were guaranteed a spot and it was right at the swim start...good $10.00 investment.

If you get to the briefing stay in the BACK OF THE ROOM.  That way you can scoot out to get around the corner to the briefing area.  I did hear that some people talked to the ESI folks about the long lines and they said they would have the big ball room next year to use for packet pick-up.  They reserved the place too late last year to get that space.

Also note that the Ga. Forum here on BT is one of the most active forums on the site and there is already a 2 page thread on the 2010 Augusta event.  It is a great source of information, rumors and just plain ol' trash talking...but mainly good info on the race and on training opportunities that go on during the summer.

Hope that helps.

Steve

I KNEW Suzy would bust your chops......AWESOME job today and the progress you have made is remarkable.

You are welcome for fixing your earlier post.

As far as Augusta goes I am planning on getting there Fri. mid/late morning and I'm sleeping cheap....somewhere on the outskirts of Augusta like we did last year.  It wasn't as cool as the Marriott but it worked and really wasn't much of a hassle.

I am CERTAINLY up for a ride and for getting together for dinner.  Noticed on the Ga. Forum today that rumor has it they opened up the registration to around 3500....so getting a decent place to eat on Fri/Sat night is going to get harder than last year.

Can't wait for this party to get started.
