Another awesome Saturday group ride here. Weather was perfect and average speed was fast! I went all out at the end of the group ride to get a QOM on Strava and then realized I still had to ride another 35 mins home by myself!

Outstanding! Congrats on the QOM.

I'm watching the Melbourne IM feed and it reminded me of a cycling question that I've had for quite some time. When I sit on my saddle, I try to get my sit bones on the widest part of the saddle. But I've noticed that the pros don't seem to be doing that. It's like they have their sit bones on the nose of the saddle. Am I not seeing what they are doing correctly or is my position wrong?

Sorry if this is a lame question, but it has really been bothering me for quite some time.

And Natascha Badmann rocks. Man, I love her and I'm lusting over her Cheetah.

Fred D - 2013-03-22 3:07 PM Hey all, want to ask a few questions? I know the group will continue on, I am pretty peripheral in it all but as Jason said it sort of runs itself. My feeling is the group should be left open to include the most possible people, but you are free to do what you want. I think of this group in some ways more of a consistent set of Highly knowledgeable resources then a small mentor group. My questions are as follows.... 1. Would any of the members here consider starting their own group to help out others in a smaller mentor group environment it might be more appealing to some who find a bigger group dynamic somewhat difficult? 2. I plan on starting a group with a pure focus on HIM training and racing. Jason mentioned he might be interested in possibly co mentoring with me. I would Certainly welcome anyone in this group to join in if they have an interest in half Ironman races and training this year. Let me know if you have any interest in joining the group. I probably will not close early but again will focus on half Ironman for this next session. I still like to come by and ask questions to the group as there are many resources that are essentially expert in the knowledge and I appreciate everything that the group offers. My goal in forming a half Ironman focused group is to have some like-minded people focusing on similar types of training and racing and to support each other and share ideas, But in a slightly smaller format than the SBR format currently has. As a number if you know I had my struggles with not only BT but also triathlon a few months ago and definitely feel as though mentor groups are the strength of the site. I am going to continue to focus on this and again welcome anybody interested in the participating and joining my group in but also encourage others to either stay with this group or stay with the group and consider forming their own mentor group as there many knowledgeable people here who could help others. Thanks in advance, Fred.

Thank you for doing this, Fred. I don't see a HIM in my future, ever, but you have so much to offer, and I'm glad that you are going to share that knowledge and experience with others. Thanks for sticking around.

The right spot on the saddle for the sit bones may not necessarily be the widest spot. Also, with how far over some ride, the sit bones may not be taking all of (or even most of) the pressure. Some of the pros do have some odd saddle choices though. Seem to put up with more than they should need to with their selection.

It's not a lame question at all, as many just don't quite know exactly how a saddle was designed to be used best. Adamo (for example) is a big one as it's rather different from most everything else.

Double post.

Might as well use it for something.  We got more snow overnight and I have a 1:45 run scheduled.  Running that long in Yaktrax is gonna suck I think.  Winter is getting seriously old.

I finished my first HITS Series 70.3 yesterday. I look pretty bad in the finish photo, but wanted to show you guys the transition area. I thought the benches were cute. And handy.

Me, gross and sweaty at the end.

Whyyyyy? Lol. My most hated swim set done ever was 2x1000m fly...and no breaking stroke. If you got caught the group restarted. Peer pressure x1000.

My flight to Cali was cancelled yesterday due to storm in Denver. This was the first flight via Phoenix to San Diego. Two trips through security with my bike...lol. Today I think he felt sorry for me. "Any CO2?" Me: no. "Okay, you can close it up now". Lol.

That's ridiculous! Will keep it in mind for next week. Wink

Amazingly enough, tonight at Masters went very well. Lots of the time in the main set I was swimming 1:20-1:22/100. Descended a few times from 1:22 down to 1:16/17. And it really wasn't hard? Even at the end, ~4,000 yds into the set. Let the coach know how surprised I was with this, and her reaction to yesterday's was "That's not too bad". Then again, she is a swimmer, recently pulling 2:30 on a 200 fly.

This is all countered with finding out earlier that while I have a great way to get a Speed Concept 9, I don't fit on the bike. The lowest pad stack possible is still 32-33mm over what I'm at right now (Last gen Ordu).
