We had an unspoken agreement with our daughter's cat, we got half of everything she caught. We had to be careful stepping on the porch in the mornings, because the welcome mat was the preferred place of delivery. She would probably be offended if she had knew we didn't eat our half.

One of mine would give what sounded like a political speech every time I went to flush their "gifts" down the toilet.

I had a cat when I was a kid who would jump up on my bed in the morning with a mouse in her mouth.

Did I mention it was always a live mouse?

At least it wasn't a spider!

I would pick a spider over a mouse hands down.

Well it finally hit much closer to home. My assistant at work came up positive, as did her mom. And another co-workers husband as well. All of that was just yesterday afternoon. So I just did the drive through test, that was definitely not the best feeling. I worry about my assistant because she had underlying medical issues, and is starting to feel sick. Quarantine time for a bit, my family and I are living in separate parts of the house now, and I cancelled my morning swim today. Really wishing we'd be done with this thing already. Stay safe and mask up.

Really sorry to hear this. Essentially this is what happened to us, and in terms of hitting home I realized how many people are affected even if the positive person(s) don't end up sick. Several whole households and families are in disarray and people are out of work. Not everyone can afford to be. It just really sucks, and sucks for far more people than you'd think. I really hope your assistant is OK.

I don't know your background; are you still in Alaska?

My cats are insane. (Is that redundant?) My main form of entertainment these days is torturing them with holiday stuff, so now I'll have to torture you guys with it ...

Anyone use an espresso machine? Thinking about getting one that doesn't break the bank, but is also awesome. Anyone have one of those?

I don't think it counts as an espresso machine but we've been really happy with our Keurig. Takes all the guesswork out of making coffee and the single-serving nature is great if you have two people who really disagree on flavor/strength of their coffee!

I agree that Keurig's are very convenient, but I've decided i want to spend less $$ on flat whites and cafe con leches, so am looking for something that I can use to make them!

D#1 has a Nespresso Virtuo Next. She loves it. I haven't tried it yet, I'm still stuck in the past with my keurig. haha. I will have to try it this week and get back.

That is sad, scary news. I truly wish you and your family dodge the bullet and don't get sick.  Take care.

I don't have any personal experience but the EN group seems to gravitate towards the Jura models but holy cow, are they $$$$$$$$$$$$.  Let us know what you decide!

I had to google Jura bc I never heard of that brand. Wow! I don’t know what my ultimate decision will be , but I do know I will not be getting a Jura!

I have a Nespresso machine that's similar to a Keurig, except it has way more pod options. So you can buy specific "espresso" pods where the machine reads the barcode and adjusts the amount of water - that kind of thing. They also have specifically formulated pods for iced coffee and really great seasonal coffees that are subtle (pumpkin pie is just a hint of cloves, peppermint pinwheel just a touch of mint, etc.). The downside is that Nespresso has an exclusive patent on the new line of Vertuo pods so you can only buy from them right now (you can't get them at Bed Bath and Beyond, for example). The pods range from $0.85 each for 1.35 oz espresso to $1.10 each for a 7.7 oz coffee to $1.20 for the XL 14 oz coffee.

I also have the accompanying Aerocino milk frother which is amazing!

That sounds interesting - who could've thought years ago that coffee making would be supported by such machines
When I grew up in communism, everyone used whole beans and grinder. Coffee was drunk from glass (coffee from a mug would be considered profany!), and it left brownish sediment all over the glass. Coffee had to be black, no milk or creamer... I remember in the 90s my aunt had instant coffee and added condensed milk to it.... mmmm..... it was so yummy...! Totally different experience...

I have French press and have to admit I enjoy the process and smell of fresh coffee - especially after maaaaany years of drinking instant ones.
Although, I agree with you that it's sometimes hard and annyoing when you have guests with different tastes who ask for all sorts of different types of coffees...
