Last year was kind of a crud fest from a running standpoint. PF for a while that I tried to work through with the help of Dr Internet. Finally gave up on that and got a cortisone shot. The most painful yet wonderful thing I could have done. After a couple of months prepping for the mtb race that took place this past weekend, I am back to a running focus (of sorts). I will keep on riding a couple of times a week, but mostly looking at running for the foreseeable future. So, now I have added inserts to my running shoes in an attempt at staving off the PF. Finally back to consistent-ish walking this week in an effort to figure out the shoe/insert combo that works best. I ran a complete mile today in under 10 minutes, which is a great sign at this point. All in all, I hope it is coming together and I can keep slowly adding miles as the days and weeks move forward. |

Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Running shoe rotation. Your thoughts? Do you wait until your current pair is about done and then get a new pair? Or do you have 2 (or more) of the same brand/model that you keep in rotation until they hit a certain mileage? Or do you have 2 (or more) of different brands and/or models that you keep in rotation and wear different shoes for different workouts? I've always been of the wear a pair until they hit a certain mileage (usually around 300 miles) and then integrate a new pair into the mix for a few weeks and then retire the old pair. My current pair has around 250 miles (and with the increased mileage I'm doing now, they are taking a toll on my ankles and feet during longer runs (17+ miles), and I have a new pair that have 3 miles, but I'm thinking of getting another pair so that I won't always have a pair on their way to retirement when the new pair comes into play. However, I've been reading a lot on wearing different brands or models of shoes, but that are similar in stack/offset/etc. just to get your stabilizer muscles to work in different ways on occasion. Then I've read where some people have long, slow distance shoes (with much more cusion) and then have different make/model shoes they wear for track workouts and tempo runs. Would love your thoughts. |

I will usually have a few pairs on the go when I am actually running; trail shoes, "barefoot" style shoes typically for shorter runs and a more conventional pair of road shoes. I rotate them depending on where I am running and replace when they hit around 500km, some go longer some go shorter it depends on how they feel. Some people are super sensitive to shoes and will buy multiple pairs of the same shoe and rotate between a few pairs - I guess its personal preference and finding what works best for you. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Originally posted by DaveL Lately I have had 2 pairs of the same shoe (different colours if possible). Mine have been working on the one pair half done and one pair newish kind of rotation. Which means that when one pair is done the second pair is about half done so the timing works out. Heading into Dopey I had one pair about 100k from being finished which I used for the 5k and the half and one pair about half done which I used for the 10k and marathon. It worked really well. However saying all of that I have just got a pair of trail shoes (not worn yet) so I think that rotation might change as I do more trail running this year, maybe I will end up with 2 pairs of trail shoes and one of road shoes or maybe just one pair of each, we will see. |

I track mileage, but I run one pair until my knees hurt, then switch to a new pair. I usually get 450-600 miles from Zoot running shoes. I've gotten 400 out of Nike. UA shoes and New Balance are Junk (my opinion), I've never had either last more than 100 miles. I had a pair of UA shoes literally fall to pieces. |

I don’t know that my way will be any help as I really have no particular way! I have done the rotate shows with 1 pair for shorter runs, the other longer. The shorter run shoe usually has a slightly lower drop and is A different brand . And I have done the 1 shoe for everything, no rotatation even with the same type of shoe. I don’t pay any attention to my miles on the shoe, just usually either one day notice they are worn too much or start getting aches I shouldn’t have. I don’t necessarily recommend this way, especially since I suspect it is the cause of my recent -thankfully short lived, case of plantar fasciitis! I think my favorite way is the different shoe for the distances, but I have to be careful as I am prone to Achilles issues, so have to work into the lower drop. |

When I am running more often, I try to keep 2 pairs in a rotation. And a trail pair. So I generally have 3 pairs at any time. I try to rotate shoes just to let a pair air out while the other pair is in use. Probably not necessary, given the 23+ hours between runs. But I usually have a pair that is older and a pair that is newer, about 150 - 200 miles between pairs. I get about 350 out of a pair if lucky. |

It's not that way on my phone. I think what I may have to do is forego the aero bottle for a regular bottle. Slide my water bottle mount backwards so that the bottle sits over my stem, and then put the bike computer foreward of that between the aerobars. I could theoretically put the bike computer behind the aerobottle over the stem, but looking at it, particularly while in aero would be impossible which sort of defeats the purpose. |
