Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED
Going to be brave and attempt a 6 mile trail run on Sunday.  The hubby has 6 miles on his schedule, and I really need something different to do.  Kind of getting burned out on the SBR thing right now.  I have been branching out in some new directions lately.  Started YOGA, road some weird pieces of equipment at the gym (shut up John  and Trevor!)  and am going to brave the world of trail running.  Might even break down and give mountain biking a try.

Suzy - nothing really different to report on PT.  Pain is still there post workouts but nothing while I am exercising so the therapist is stumped.   It is rather annoying to literally have a pain in the a** all day long.   Why can't I have a traditional injury with a text book fix?  I hate being an enigma!!!!   My body is put together all wrong I guess.  (again, shut up boys!)

John and Andy - enjoy your time together this weekend.  Don't forget to take a group photo and share.

Michelle -  are you going to go through major whiplash moving from Hawaii to very northern WA?!

Steve - so sorry to hear about the injury.  Glad to see you have such a great attitude about it.

Trevor - good luck at the 1/2.

If  I missed anyone else I'm sorry and Good Luck!!

Tracy- Are you sure you want to take on the world of trail running?  Do you really need another addiction?  Once you start it is hard to think of running on the treadmill, and road again.  Here are my totals (for running since Sept...)

Brief vent:

I am frustrated by all this snow.  We got 30 inches over the weekend and are in the process of getting another 20 inches yesterday and today.  All that would be fine in New England (where I grew up), but Washington DC is not prepared for these numbers.  Few if any streets are plowed, and those that are plowed have an inch or two of packed snow/ice underneath so the cars are sliding everywhere.  I park on the street, but cannot do so because the streets have not been plowed sufficiently widely, and the piles of snow have narrowed the breadth of the navigable roadway if any.

I was fine with all of this until ... the gym (which is 3 blocks from the house and I walk to) is now closed because of the snow.  I was looking forward to my workout today as a way to get out and get some exercise.  And I actually had a session planned with my trainer.  But I just got an email from him saying that the gym was shut and he would get fired if he opened it to train me tonight.

I am sitting in my office on a lengthy conference call (1.5 hours so far), wishing that I could get out and get some training in.

End of rant.

Anyone out there brave enough to tell us their weekend race plans?  If not, give us the details on that one tough workout you plan to nail!

I'll start.....going to mix it up this weekend and attempt an ocean swim. Haven't even considered it since my nearhoneymoon drowning, but it is time to kill the final swim demon!  Maui here I come!

PS. I am also supposed to have a chi-chi per our fearless leader...so I guess I will comply Cool.

HA HA HA HA HA - weekend plans!  Let's see dig out vehicles, dig out house, dig out parent's vehicles, dig out parent's house - right now there is a freakin' (no joke) blizzard outside of my house.  WTF - this will go down as the snowest winter EVER in the Washington DC since they started recording stuff back the late 1800s.  Ok deep breaths - stay calm.

One tri note - I have my second FTP test today so that will be kind of exciting - not the test but to see if I have improved.  If not then I will just start drinking and eating lots while I wallow on the couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

65 mile ride planned for saturday.   dinner w/ andy and his wife saturday night.  "you only get one shot at a first impression." :-)

BTW - got this in a email from the local running group.  Are you going to try and keep up?

2008 Olympic Marathon gold medalist Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya will race the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Half-Marathon on Sunday, February 28. Wanjiru (23) is preparing for the Virgin London Marathon in April; he holds the men's half marathon world record (58:33, 2007), and earned the 2008/2009 World Marathon Majors series men's title.

Going to do my best to get my training in while driving 9 hours back to Kalispell to pick up my eldest daughter and take her a 10 hour drive back to Portland for college visitation. The rest of this month through the first week of March is going to be mostly on the road. It's going to take a little creativity to stick with my IM plan.

Have a fantastic time in Hawaii Susy! I can't wait to hear about your awesome ocean swim!

Wow...I have been asking for some snow (which we are getting some today but only about 6") but 50" is a little unreal.  Would even cause problems in my neck of the woods.  All of you down in the DC/VA area STAY SAFE!!

While neither my ride or swim was particularly stellar, both are behind me!  I'm not looking at TP anymore today in case coach SJ tries to add some suprise leg flush workout on the bike.  It's a slow slide from here.....

Sam--Good luck on the test.  While gruling, seeing improvement is always a great feeling.

Trevor--kick some butt on the half for me.

Tracy--bummer on the body.  That is mystifying. Would prolo or cortisone help the area?

William and the NE gang--hang in there.  Cherry blossoms will be in your future before you know it!

Lisa--we are staying at The Whaler for the third time.  We rent condos almost every where we go and this one is right on Kannapali Beach.

Dino--I will gladly have a drink for you...do you have a fav? and before you answer, I don't do brown drinks....

it sucks ryan hall backed out cause then it would have been the three of us.  now i'm a little worried about the proper pacing. still, i think i can crush a few more beers than ol' sammy on saturday night.  as far as the race on sunday, i might be a little slower.

one of my goals in houston last month was to not get beat by the marathon winner.  i won by ~9 minutes.

Thanks Suzy. I have not thought too much about aerobars yet.  I was thinking I need to get used to the bike as is and then maybe add them later.  Or, is it better to get them sooner rather than later?

SSMinnow - 2010-02-09 6:25 PM
Glen--Really nice bike....I like the design. Are you adding aerobars?

Trina--Awesome news...you are definitely on your way.  What is the key to dropping the time?

Steve--buddy, sorry to hear about the surgery, but happy Augusta is still in your bullseye.  Take time to make the decision on the marathon, huh? While you aren't getting younger, you are getting better!

Tracy--Welcome Back, we missed you.  How about a running/PT update?

Thanks to all of you who gave me advice on the IM training plan timing.   I don't spend a lot of time looking at people's volume so I guess it sent me over the edge when so many people are already in the midst of IM training.  With limited running, I feel behind the 8 ball.

Ready for a PSA?  So the foot has been nagging, not in the area of the stress fracture, but on the 4th digit itself.  I noticed while doing my TP work that my soleus/calf was really sore.  Went and got ASTYM done on it and while it wasn't perfect when I left yesterday, it felt great all day today, even with the double bike.  The moral of the story is sometimes that pain isn't caused by the obvious thing...you gotta dig.  For those with nagging injuries some food for thought. Ok, my 30 seconds is up.
  Have a great night!

Hey Glenn--I rode two years before I ever added aerobars so I think it is totally up to you.  For me, the key was the getting used to the pedals and drops after riding a hybrid for years.  I actually took my aerobars off my ride bike for the winter.

Well vacation has been a blast for me.  We did some skiing at Breckenridge today and had a blast,  the one time I fell, it happened to be in the steep bowls and I found myself sliding head first, so I tried to flip my legs over to stop me and caught a tip of my ski which slightly hyper extended my knee.  When I got out of my clothes, it was a bit swollen, so I am icing it right now.  It has some instability, but I was good enough to keep on it skiing for the remainder of the day.  Only two more days to go, then back to reality, although I have a few days to get back in the groove before going back to work.

I miss my bike greatly and find myself looking at the windy mountain roads imagining I was on my bike!

Amazing, Fed Gov't closed again tomorrow.

Getting some good trainer rides in.

LOL, house is getting clean, kids are still at grandparents so we have lots of free time.

Finally took the time to put the 2nd PT mount on my road bike.  Cleaned off the bike, put it in the stand and took everything off and shiny new now.

Going to run out of stuff to do here soon.

I had forgotten about nashbar returns.

They have a small planet-x tri-frame in blue (same color as I have)

for 450 bucks, which is 50% off list.

I am 5'8" for reference.

Also some trainers on there and tons of clothes.

EDIT:  Barry, found a jersey for you...

Yeah, totally feeling the pain for the DC-area and eastward folks. We had that last winter -- major snow dumpage and we are not prepared for it. Even the kids were complaining about being sick of the snow!! This year is a different story, and our bulbs are all coming up and the daffodils are threatening to bloom. Crazy, so crazy!!

No races for me, just an L4 trainer ride on Saturday. And I'm still batting a cold I came down with last week. I thought I was better and feel a ton better but the congestion is hanging on and not letting up a bit and I'm starting to worry about a sinus infection. Ugh. Keeping up the training this week but listening to signs to back off (so far I haven't heard them too loudly!).

I had to do a TT this morning on the bike (20 min.) and was sort-of discouraged that I wasn't faster than my 30 min. one a month ago (I was .02 slower -- so really, just about the same). But I am not getting down on myself too hard as I had a big ride Monday and a decent run Tuesday and am  coming off being sick. Still, I hope it goes better the next time around!

It took it a LOT longer to jack up... not sure if that was pacing or me being more fit. In the end, I think the average was a wee bit lower but the max was a wee bit higher. That said, my HR was pretty high for both Monday and Tuesday's workouts, which I attributed to my body still fighting the cold. Based on my efforts (esp. Monday -- Tuesday was much more "usual") my HR was up there, which meant that I didn't push my ride as much as I feel like I normally would have. Bottom line, I think there are enough variables not to put too much stock in today's TT.

dalessit - 2010-02-10 6:40 PM I had forgotten about nashbar returns.

They have a small planet-x tri-frame in blue (same color as I have)

for 450 bucks, which is 50% off list.

I am 5'8" for reference.

Also some trainers on there and tons of clothes.

EDIT:  Barry, found a jersey for you...

Not hardly.  We don't own anything RED in the Garner household.
