Member 5452 NC | Subject: RE: Tebow! scoobysdad - 2012-01-12 2:49 PM Which begs the question: Why do many people seem to object more to Tebow being open about his religious views than many of the other athletes who also point to the sky after scoring, huddle up for a postgame prayer session, kiss their crucifix before every at-bat, or otherwise "wear their religion" on their jersey? He's goofy.

Master 1585 Folsom (Sacramento), CA | Subject: RE: Tebow! powerman - 2012-01-12 5:48 AM If you are going to spend mocking me for not understanding the true meaning of your post, could you at least explain to me how I am being the word police. It seems to me that your main point was that "people whose options matter or you care about" don't rip on Lance Armstrong for being a medi wh*re and that the opinions posed in cyclist forums really don't have much worth. My point is that the only criticisms I see of Tebow for flaunting his religion come in triathlon forums or Yahoo article comments. Maybe triathlon board posts have more weight than cyclist forum posts, but I personally haven't seen major media or really anyone of note commenting on it in a negative way. Yes, the media does spend a lot of time talking about religion. Their job is to sell newspapers and the way he wears his religion on his sleeve distinguishes him from other players. Combine a little controversy with some comebacks and you are going to sell some papers. I personally couldn't care less about his religion. I don dislike him because he prays, I dislike him because he can't throw an out pattern. uclamatt2007 - 2012-01-11 11:41 PM powerman - 2012-01-11 5:53 PM Lurch - 2012-01-11 4:18 PM powerman - 2012-01-11 3:25 PM Lurch - 2012-01-11 2:54 PM Look at Lance Armstrong... he unappologetically says the only reason he came back was for publicity for his cancer foundation. Nobody grips about him being an attention *****... but then again we all know religon is a very charged subject and ellicits strong opinions on both sides.
Says the man that must not have visited a cycling forum in the last 10 years..... Cycling forums are not main stream media.... regardless of the high value cyclists place on their opinions.
Who said anything about mainstream media? You said "Nobody". Oh, I stand corrected... nobody that matters, or anyone listens to. Is that better? And who in mainstream media is coming out and ripping Tebow for so forthright with his religion? There is however a multi page spread in this months Outside Magazine blasting Armstrong for using Livestrong to promote his own brand. While I think the piece is a hatchet job, it is far from the first article of the sort. OK... well now I see I have a warrant out for my arrest by the word police... I guess I have some explaining to do... So Tebow is on every sports channel, every local news (around here... don't know about everywhere else because I'm not there... hope that is not a new charge) Natinonal news, and sports papers. He lack of skill is usually the main topic... folowed closely by his religion... now that is just an opinion by me and not really a fact I'm trying to put forward... hope that isn't a new charge..... What is most controversial... at least the way I read it when I do see a story about him... is his... or the journalists, insistence on placing religion into the coversation. While on the other hand... Armstrong... at least in the national media that I have seen... usually is about his drug use... followed by his cancer foundation which is usually pretty positive about his efforts he puts forward to that cause.... again.. that is my opinion, I am not presenting it as fact... I hope that pleases the court... Now I don't go to cycling forums... and the only people that generally do are cyclists... which isn't exactly mainstream in America...it isn't in every sports paper, local and national news, or sports channels... just my opinion mind you... so since I don't go there and read every stupid thread that comes up about Armstrong on there, and since it isn't reported in the main stream news... I have no idea what is being said there. Now I must strongly appologize to the court for infering "nobody in the world" when I made a satement... I was trying to avoid a 4 paragraph explaination... I see most of the folks here got what I was saying... but since I have been charged with the high crimes by the court of not being clear enough... I throw myself on it's mercy and beg forgivness of this very serious offense..... or of course, you could just get over it. |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Tebow! It was a general statement for that post and others... perhaps you forget the scolding I recieved for calling Tebow a rookie. This thread is on a tri board, but here is Colorado... the same discussion takes place everywhere. It is the fad topic of the current time. So plenty of people chime in on the subject from many different sources. So right now I say Tebow is crushing the opposition in the daily popularity contest. So I hear plenty... What gets him the most attention is his religious views... ANY time you talk religion, regardless of the person or subject involved... you will get the same old tired debate that has gone on since Jesus was knee high to a grass hopper... I won't bother to rehash it here... but plenty of folks, be it celebrity, talking heads, water cooler warriors, or internet gurus... have problems with religion... and as such have problems with the current religion poster child Tim Tebow. Fair or not, it's just the truth. And those same people that have a problem with religon will have a problem with Tebow mentioning it and he will get accused of being hypocritical and fake just like every religious person that came before him... just like some have mentioned in this very thread. Just because you are not one of them, does not mean my observation is wrong. It's an observation. Feel free to have your own.... like he can't throw an out route. But that's how things are these days when people are put under a microscope and scrutinized by the public at large... their issues seem very overblow when in fact they can be quite normal and "right sized". I just find it interesting in general. YMMV Which begs the question: Why do many people seem to object more to Tebow being open about his religious views than many of the other athletes who also point to the sky after scoring, huddle up for a postgame prayer session, kiss their crucifix before every at-bat, or otherwise "wear their religion" on their jersey? I think Tebow appearing with his mom in a Super Bowl ad that was sponsored by a Christian group which espouses (among other things) a pro-life message is one reason he's gotten labeled the way he has. That's definitely taking it to a different level than just kissing your crucifix in the batter's box. |

Don't know if this has been talked about yet about Denver/Tebow, but thinking about the other AFC game, IF Denver beats NE this week, they have a good shot at the Super Bowl. I think Baltimore is better than Denver, they are a defensive teams, and when two defensive teams battle, it could come down to a FG, Denver wins. Houston has an inexperienced QB as well, so that is a toss up.
I think the world will explode with Tebow-fever if they make the SB. |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Tebow! That was pretty painful. Just all around, not really just Tebow. I even like the Pats. I admire what they have done... never been on a loosing end like that though... your HOF QB punts the fricken ball to stay protected on a third down in a game up by 40 points... WTF!!! That was serious BS... even though they do it to everyone. Regardless... we had our butt handed to us. Painful. |
