I bent my knee just past 90 degrees at Therapy today.

There it is 1 month ago.

I want to race... I don't want $175 back.

Water temps:

Not sure about the accuracy though...

OMG. That water has just a few weeks to seriously warm up. I'm very sensitive to cold temps, thanks to living in the desert. My coldest swim was in the mid-60s at Lake Havasu in '08. It was quite painful. Bring out the sun!!!

I did finally get around to putting on an 11 28 and it seemed to help alot with my ride last weekend at Burnt Mountain in Georgia. Not too worried about getting slowed down on the flats and downhill : ) Incredibly happy the weather is improving so training can be moved outside. It was near 60 last Saturday but still a foot of snow on top which was beautiful. Ooops, there goes my countdown clock!

Nothing scares me more about this race than the cold water temperature. I hope it get's to near 60 as that's as cold as I can get an OWS in around here.

Does anyone know when the course swim will be earlier in the week? This is my first IM, so I am not versed in the way of the IM ninja.

Mike

The first Gatorade Swim starts Wednesday from 8:00am - 11:00am but you can swim the course really any time you want. Buoys may not be out until Wednesday but there's no reason you couldn't swim.

Thanks Rick. That is what I suspected. Anyone want to head up a BT swim like Thursday afternoon or so? I could bring a canopy, bagels, and hot beverages...

Since the swim course is virtually the whole pond, I wonder if they will kick the boats out for the week? As for the water temp, it is a small body of water so there is some hope that it will heat up fairly early in the season, it can be as warm as 80 (in May in St George) so maybe we will get lucky

I think the swim entry/exit is the boat ramp, at least it has been for the other races I have done at Sand Hollow. I can't think they would let boats out on the water outside of "volunteers" for the day.

was thinking more of the week prior (for practice swims), I'm sure they wont allow boats on the water that day.

Headed out to Vegas for all of next week for a conference. Really temepted to cut-out one day and make the drive out the the course...

Anyone have some good info on a place to swim that is decent(not too crowded or ghetto) in the evenings? I am a 24 hour fitness and LA fitness member and I am staying at the Bellagio. I just plan on using the stationary bikes and running outside some where. Tips on running spots would be great too. A PM would be fine or here.

Weather looks nice next week out in St. George and real nice here in So Cal. Finally get a stretch of decent weather and I am out of town, go figure.

It's spring break time!  Headed to Moab, utah with the family for the week for a week of training and playing and capping it off with a half marathon on saturday 1/20.  Planning on some serious training during the week, at least 2 100 mile rides (thank my wife).  Anyone familiar with the area that knows good riding routes?

One of my favorite rides is really easy and accessible. Go north of town and right before you cross the river, go east on SR 128. It winds up a canyon and follows the river for about 2/3 of the way until it hits Highway 6 and I-70. If you follow the road from the turn off, turn around when you hit Highway 6 and come back, I think it is about 82 miles if I recall correctly. Here is the turnoff from State Street...

When in town, if you have any bike related issues, go chat with the guys at the Poison Spider bike shop. I feel like they are one of the best spots in town for roadies. They may be the only place that doesn't look down on the road bike community.

I'm in Vegas and the wind is atrocious.  Anyone in SG this weekend?  PLEASE tell me this is not the same wind we may have in May!

It is very possible... picture the winds at IMAZ when it was an April race.

Did my first 100-miler yesterday, and I felt great! I feel READY!

*And yes, it included a lot of ugly hills!

My sons rode the loop part of the course today, as the road race in Tour del Sol.  Their comments, "the hills are nothing, the wind kills."  Every wind except a tailwind.  They rode it in about 2:18.

What kind of winds are we talking about and how and where on the course? Almost all of my rides have been in the wind so far, but not sure if my wind is as bad.

On another note, I did a Big Day on Saturday to test myself leading up to May 1st. It was fun and informative. Here is the thread on it: Big Day

Heading out to Vegas in a few hours for the week. Not able to bring my bike so I will have to stick with whatever the gym has to offer my at the Bellagio...

Ben, that sounds like an epic day. Injury free and just tired? I think you nailed it.

I'm sick.  Which also sucks...  Missed my first long ride of the season this last weekend...  I sort of feel bad about missing it, but I have gone a little extra longer on previous long rides, so I don't think it will hurt me too much...  I can't say how far I have been going since my long rides have been big climb days so my average speed is miserable looking.  BUT, know I can average 13 mph with a hard 2 hour climb, should mean I could go faster on a flatter course...

BTW, my plan is to drive up to SG this Sat and do the loop twice.  I need about 6 hours.  I'm not sure if doing the loop will take that long, so I may need to add in extra.

If I do it, I will write my take on it up here.  Try to give you "joe average's" view on the bike course.

I have to be honest, I have been confident up till now.  This cold, plus a couple bad workouts has me shaken...  I only swam twice in the last two weeks and my long runs have been a bit painful...  Those are my strong suits as well...
