I'm not as bad as my daughter, Emmylou(who). We've been in and out of hospital all week. She's been diagnosed with HSP. Breaks my heart to see her in so much pain. Arthritis has no place in a 5 year olds life

Trust me ... I would be VERY lucky to keep up with you, on that day.

BIG MANATEE CONFESSION TIME

I'm sure you guys will be just shocked.

I'm checking in with our family doc (whom I've exasperated with my whackadoodle shenanigans for over 30 years now!) as well as my shrink in Bali (who is also a neuro, conveniently enough) monthly. Yes, I was cleared to do lots of low-intensity working out. Yes, I was cleared to start adding in high-intensity on Oct 21 (but still no high-risk-of-head-injury activities, which technically should rule out being in a motor vehicle in Bali at all, but I digress).

This month I'll be getting an MRI, which we'll also run by a second neurologist. To be clear, the MRI can't really CLEAR me to be cycling on the road again--but it might reveal some kind of gross morphology which would definitely NIX being in risk-of-head-injury situations.

I'm still hoping to do IMWA on Dec. 8th. It's a huge maybe and probably not, but on the off chance that all three docs are at least neutral on the issue and there's no glaring contraindication, I want to be prepared.

Regardless, I will definitely do the swim.

So, Stace Face, if I'm somewhatvaguelyalmostOK'd to do Busso, then for sure I'd love to do happy fun participatory sprint the weekend after as well.

Take care of yourself. I hope you are cleared, not just so you can race but also so people who love you don't have to worry for you so much.

Well, after absolute downpours yesterday (46.6mm rain (1.8inches)), the day dawned cool but beautiful.  I had a great race.  It was, mentally, the best race I have ever run.  Super happy.  I'll wait for official results for RR.  Hope everyone else is having a great day!

well that was a HUGE weekend - Salty you would have been proud of me.

Noosa Tri is one of the iconic races of the world. Met a lot of 'facebook macca training folk' - alas no Macca this year but i said hi to Crowie.

I partied HARD with Clayton Fettell, Josh Amberger, Joe Lampe, Brad Kahlefeldt - those guys pull out a 1.47 OD (where the swim measured 200m long) and then start partying at 4pm and i left them just before midnight they were still knocking back the drinks big time.

It was an awesome weekend. We did Macca proud in his absence.

He told me to get a media pass on his behalf for the next race which is Shepparton - where my mate Terenzo is racing - me with an access all areas..danger Will Robinson.

I drank a lot of champagne yesterday - ALOT! Today i got home and quite honestly need my bed and junk food.

Got sunburnt to hell too - it was a big day!

Next weekend dinner with Clayton Fettell.

Hi,
It seems that I can never lose weight. When I trained for the Olympic tri about 6 years ago, I gained weight. Long slow distances don't help me, but my legs cannot take intervals, etc. Once I did lose weight with spinning, but I had some emotional things going on with my dog rescue, so I don't know if it was the spinning or the emotions.

Has anyone tried the Paleo diet? I did the Medifast diet last year, I did lose 8 pounds, which I gained back in 2 minutes. I am post-menopausal, but I know women who are have still lost weight. Any help, greatly appreciated!!!

I feel your pain! The only thing that keeps my weight in check is paying close attention to the calories in v calories out equation. I am vertically challenged and can gain weight just thinking about food, so this is a constant battle. I have never followed the Paleo diet, in fact, right now I eat a 95% vegetarian diet; so I can offer no insights into it. However, I think it is important that whatever you do you don't think of it as a diet, eg, something that ends when you lose the weight; but rather a change in life style that is sustainable. When I feel like I've gained a pound or 2 ( remember, I'm little,so 2 pounds is a lot!) I always go back to tracking my food and exercise. It's amazing how easy it is to identify the cause of the weight gain - usually it is too much good beer and ice cream Good luck.

Thanks, Ann-Marie. Yes, a change in lifestyle. I have already quit smoking and drinking, now another change!! Groan.

I also have high cholesterol to think about, so the meat and cheese diet won't work for me, I am sure.

Hi Nancy - I feel your pain too!  I don't know that I have any words of wisdom, but I can tell you that I've tried paleo, and while I was following the change in eating style to paleo, it really worked for me.  There are a LOT of books and recipes out there for making paleo dishes - though the biggest things to remember are no grains, no legumes, no dairy, and (in general) nothing processed.  I fell off the wagon after my IM race last year and have been badgering my husband ever since to get it going again since he's the cook in the family - and I think he's finally realized that it was a good change for us.  It's not for everyone, and it can be a big change to the system - but it's always something that you can try and see if it works for you.

Coincidently we are on a bit of a diet/weightloss mini-thread and today after work I will meet with a friend who is starting her own weightloss/training program for athletes.  Tonight is just a consultation, I guess to hear how it will work.  I'm hoping this will be a good fit for me, but we'll see what she has to offer.  Because I've been lax with watching my intake (or more specifically caring about it to the degree I should) I'm now up 6.5 pounds from my lowest this spring/summer and up 3.5 from where I spent most of the summer.

Near the end of one of my long runs, I noticed my left hip aching. There was a slight pop with each step. The hip was sore for 2 days after the run.
