Sweeeet!!

I've heard so many great things about that race from so many people even our own Manatees from last year.

Janyne, I saw your tweet about the Social Marketing class. It looks like it'll be interesting. Have fun with it.

Yeah, I have been tasked with doing some social media and Constant Contact type stuff for my organization -- basically, getting the counties set up with it.  I thought it would help to get up to speed with the latest ;-)

We've sent our Marketing folks to take a class. It sounds interesting. I think it is beneficial, and probably so for more than just businesses. I'd like to get a better handle on how to use the number of them that are available, which ones to use for what, as well as how best to leverage them.

OK folks, I have some time coming up in June where I will be able to get some reading in. I'd like it to be relevant to tri's, probably running in particular, but not necessary. 2 books that are on the short list are Jack Daniels Running Formula and Once a Runner. I've read Born to Run, which was entertaining. Is there anything else anyone suggests?

WOOOOOT!  What fantastic news!!

It really is one of the best races that I've ever done - I hope you have a great time!

Isn't "nuts" considered "normal" 'round these parts??

Just a friendly reminder to ALWAYS wear your helmet and stay alert when riding or racing.  See what's around you.  There was a serious bike wreck at the race I worked at over the weekend, very, very scary at the time but thankfully it has a happy ending - the most seriously hurt rider is home after a 3 day stay in the hospital.  Thank heavens he had a high quality helmet.  It may be tough to see in the small pics but it there is a sticker that reads Kevlar.

I see so many people commuting to work with no helmets.  It always makes me shake my head, especially since they're riding on city streets with fairly heavy car traffic.  We do have bike lanes in a lot of places but still....

I need some Manatee advice.  I'm signed up for a 1.5 mi. race on Sunday; there's a 5K option.  I've been doing my running based on time, not distance.  Just got a 310XT so I can track the distance now.  Current training has been/will be as follows:

  • 2.46 mi. (3 min walking, 2 min running x 6)
  • 2.78 mi (2.5 min walking, 2.5 min running x 6 plus 5 min extra walking because of tech problems
  • Today will be another 2.5/2.5, probably for 30 min although I could stretch it to 35 min.
  • Scheduled to do 2 min walking, 3 min running x 6 on Sunday, again could stretch to 35 min.
  • Monday is my rest day

I'm thinking about doing the 5K on Sunday.  It's a really flat course.   It's a little bit of stretch but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.  Think I can/should do it?

Wow.  And I mean that in both good and bad ways....

WOW in the good way that I'm glad the racer was wearing the helmet (as everyone SHOULD when they're riding no matter if they're in a race or not), and to see that the helmet did exactly what it was meant and designed to do.

WOW in the bad way that it happened in the first place, I hope the rider continues to improve and gets back to 100% soon.

Thanks for sharing that Mel - it's a really good and sober reminder to make sure the noggin is protected.

GOOD AFTERNOON!!!

Melanie - Scary stuff and a good reminder!

Mary - just do it I don't think anyone here will say don't do it! Just don't blow up out of the gate and stick to the paces you're used to rather than what people around you are doing. (wish someone had reminded me of that for my first 5k last season LOL)

HOORAY THURSDAY!! Who's got what this weekend? I've got a 10K Sunday - and the weather looks niiiiiiice finally!!

Yikes!  That helmet looks like it took a beating---good thing it was the helmet & not the head!

I have a 10K this weekend!!  Go me  --and a metric century the following day!

No races for me yet, but I do have a 2.5 hour bike ride on Saturday and a 1.5 hour run to do on Sunday.

Also going to be hanging out with some BTers on Saturday night which means the planned Sunday morning run could very well turn into a Sunday afternoon run...  it should be a great weekend!

In my life...

Mak has pink eye. Taylor looks like he's getting it.

Swam for first time in a month yesterday. That race in 10 days was screaming death threats at me.

I've spent several days getting things in order to be a foster home for a rescue pup. The kill number at the shelters is staggering (50+ dogs at our local just last weekend) and the rescues are overwhelmed.

Our family location may be changing in the next few months. I'm doing lots of city researching.

I have a treadmill set up next to my trainer now. No excuses for heat or sick kids

Someday I'm going to have that treadmill/trainer setup.  Right next to my indoor 25y pool.  Yup. Someday.

Trust me, I wish I had them! The planner in me is having anxiety issues. Though, in all reality, things are in the beginning stages, and I should hardly bat an eyelash yet. lol   It is lots of fun to research

My weekend consists of volunteering all day Saturday volunteering at a K-9 Nosework trial with a 40 min. bike ride at the end of the day, and the 5K Sunday.  Thanks to all of you for your enabling encouragement.  Pretty sure I'm gonna need that rest day I've got scheduled for Monday!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
