Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) Originally posted by mtnbikerchk Just got back from marking the 25 mile BikeMS route. I can't ride it this year because it's Sunday - same day as my HIM but I always mark the route. There's just something fun about going for a ride with 6 cans of spray paint and legally writing on the pavement all around town! And yes, it's paint, not chalk. It lasts until the following year! Awesome way to be involved. Too bad it's paint though..hmmmm |

I've read over on slowtwitch about the sleeved tops and apparently the shoulders and upper arms make the biggest difference. A full sleeve is faster than one to the elbow, but you get the biggest gains by just covering down to the elbow. And that discussion was just about the fabric being faster than skin, not hair. I really think you'd see a huge difference by wearing a sleeved (to the elbows) on the bike. I've got a castelli T1 that's supposedly 1.5 minutes faster on HIM distance & 3 minutes faster on IM distance. I'd bet you could double those numbers with the amount of hair you'd be covering. Originally posted by Jet Black Wow, some awesome pics Adrienne and Erin! Sorry you're sick though Adrienne and sorry about the scare with your baby Erin! Just registered for my first masters swim meet. Going to do 50 free, 50 fly, 50 breast, 100 free & 100 breast. Should be fun. Awesome! Really curious to hear how it goes. Seems like a really cool addition to the racing menu (at least if you're a swimmer - I admit that I'd be embarrassed doing my big, sloppy, slow, open turns at something like that!!). When's the meet? Doing any specific training for it? Oh, and I was actually wondering the same thing as your comment on the fur-aero penalty. I've actually asked that in the past and been poo-pooed as a crackpot (true enough, but perhaps for other reasons). All I know is that Andy Potts - who didn't shave his legs for years as he didn't believe in any advantage on the bike - was wearing one of those tops (M2 maybe) on the bike to cover his arms/shoulders. If covering them with some slick fabric works, I'd have to think that taping a bunch of brillo pads on one's shoulders before a ride would have the opposite effect... Anyone have any thoughts on that (seriously - the top vs. no top vs. fur for aero)? I imagine it's slight, as are all of these, but I wonder if it's of a similar magnitude to the gains of one of those bike tops? Matt I raced last year in a Pearl Izumi Octane and loved it. Not sure if it made me faster, but It made me feel pro: Something to note with these is they have to fit really, really well. If there are some wrinkles or looseness then you're really no better off. McMatt may need to consider shaving anyway because of that. |

In my current racing kit I wear a small jersey and medium shorts to have a better fit. Still looked pro! |

Like Melanie said, 3 years in a cast sounds AWFUL!! Not sure whether that or the operation is worse. At least with an operation, it hopefully wouldn't take 3 years to resolve. Sending lots of positive thoughts to you, your little one, and the rest of the family as you got through all this tough stuff. |

Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees 2015.3 CLOSED (or Poptarts? Pet pics?) With all the discussion of fur this week, I'm reminded of the chest waxing scene in The 40-Year Old Virgin. I heard an interview with Steve Carroll, who said they did that scene without stunts--he really did get his chest waxed. Might not hurt so much on arms/shoulders/back, but still...yikes!! I don't shave my legs because you can't even tell whether I do or not and DH doesn't care. I do get a bit of a giggle out of the feeling of the wind in my leg hair every Spring when I get my bike back out on the road. |

If you are willing to look into some additional supplements that won't hurt Finn, might be of some help and won't cost a great deal then I would strongly suggest calcium phosphate as it is great for helping with the formation and strengthening of bones and silica is good for the strengthening of connective tissues like tendons and ligaments. These are both basic minerals that we should have in our body but we are generally now lacking because they are so depleted in our soils and therefore no longer in our foods. Maybe see if you can track down a mineral therapist. If you are interested PM me and I will give you some more details. |

I have found a couple of places that do Retul fitting and I am going to have that done around August and go from there. My thinking is at this point in the year I'll have some choices between 2015 and 2016 models and I might even be able to get something at a decent price as they try to quit stock, or even better yet in a decent colour depending on what the 2016 colours are (cause you know that is as important as fit ) |
