Someone asked the question about why OWS was slower and the answer came back "walls".  Here is my data from yesterday.  I have been swimming at about 1:50ish 100's in the 25yd pool.  In the 50m pool, I was right about 2:00 with the same effort - the only difference is that there are two less wall pushes in the 50 and the time goes up 10sec.  Take away the other two and logic would say that I would swim 2:10 / 100 in OWS and that is without any wasted time due to sighting or navigational issues...

Don't look now, but if you're comparing yards and meters, meters are longer!! The basic comparison we used to do in my youth was 7 seconds different/100 comparing 25 yards to 50 meters.

SSMinnow - 2010-06-13 5:31 PM Hi Kids.....

Looks like a lot of us had interesting weekends!

Stan-you're the man! Between jet lag and the course screw up, you deserve the big "ATTA BOY" of the day!

Andy-when you figure out how to use that b-day present let me know.  Mine's in the drawer . Happy B-day big guy!

Had a fairly good race today.  Swim was not what I wanted it to be, but the bike rocked and I treated the run exactly the way I needed to....total shock that I won my AG today.  Highlight was meeting Dino!  I never saw him after he got in the water though.....I'm guessing he had a good day.  He looked pumped!

PS Side note, picked up the RU this afternoon.  And no I haven't ridden it yet.  It was pouring.

Congrats on the AG win, Suzy!

Sorry, swim rate was converted to yds for purpose of this comparison. (BT Race report)  Of course other variable was getting out of pool and sauntering over to the timing mat...

I AGREE!

What Dino neglected to tell the group was what a b$itch the Oly run course really is....hills on grass, mud, roots and more.  Beating your goal on that terrain is more than really beating your goal! Nice job hockey man!

PS Next time your in town, I want to see how I really measure up to Shelley!

Afraid not,  somehow they got our numbers mixed up so I swam the 40 minute mile and my hubby did the 34 minutes.Cry  The women went out after the men so there are an extra 4 minutes tacked onto my official swim time.

Still very frustrated with my swimming.  I'm considering joining the masters swim group at my gym for a few pointers. Overall I thought it was a good swim, just slow for me.  Except I did try to exit the water using the wrong boat ramp, so that added another 20 seconds onto my time I'm sure.  Such a crisis right?

On a more positive note, my family had a great day of running on Saturday.  It was the Susan G Koman 5K for Breast Cancer and we took the girls with us.  My youngest ran her first 5K ever and she did it in 40:30!   I am so proud of her. That beat the heck out of my first 5K time.

Later that day the hubby and I went out to get me to a sub 30 5K.  He wore the Garmin and lead me on the attack.  After a mile warm up (that is a relative term considering it was 95degrees outside) my first mile was too slow so we had to pick it up to meet the time.  BUT I RAN MY FIRST EVER SUB 30minute 5K! = 29:38.   Last mile was a 9 minute mile.   I know for a lot of you that isn't a big deal that was very tough for me.  I had the full mouth drool going on and didn't care.  I kept telling myself, "you are tired, not in pain, keep going."    I am so excited that I did it because now I know it's possible and I want to do it again.  I think that was the first time I ever visitied, "race pace" and it was not a happy place to be but a great place to say I had been.

Great job kicking butt Suzy and Dino.

I just finished my race report, Race .  Lesson learned never travel thousands of miles the night before a race and expect good things to happen.  Not sure what I was thinking.  With everything that happened on race day, I still had fun and I'm glad I did it.

Now I have to figure out how much it will cost to replace my car window..

Tracy! You've been around long enough not to say crap like that!  That is playing yourself down and we don't allow it!  I could preface every swim with that phrase (and used to), but it is self defeating.  YOU HIT YOUR GOAL WOMAN!

Thanks.  I didn't mean it to sound self defeating, more to put in perspective the awe I have for fast runners.  It took so much out of me to hold a 9 minute mile for one mile that I am amazed at runners that put in 8 min/miles and faster as their regular pace.  Damn impressive.

One thing I love about this sport is pros racingwith amateurs. I love reading tri blogs and have a few favorites out there, one of which is Bree Wee, who lives in Kona, HI. She is racing CDA, which I had guessed for weeks when she hinted it in her blog, but she made it public about a week ago. I took a big-girl deep breath and sent her a FB message telling her how much I love her blog, I'm racing CDA and can't wait to give her shout-outs, etc. She sent me back THE NICEST message, which totally made my day (telling me my message to her totally made her day). Can't wait to find her in CDA and get a picture with her. So cool!!! I still can't help but wonder how a Hawaii girl will survive that cold lake. Lucky for her she swims super-duper fast!!

Off for my last mid-length ride...!!

On, and Tracy... CONGRATULATIONS!!! Any new milestone like that is huge and such an amazing feeling. I used to be a 10:00/mile runner no matter what and I'll never forget what hot $#!$ I felt like when I finally broke into the 9's!! Keep going, you may surprise yourself!!!

Tracy great job on your run!  a goal is a goal and it's great that you accomplished it.  It's also great that your whole family is supportive of each other and so active.  That's one of my goals.  At my race i was racked next to a family of 4 doing their first race together.  It was pretty cool.

Saturday there was a guy and a girl doing the tri together - their shirts read bride and groom....  She went back out on the course to run in with him as she said it was a team effort!  It was cool!  Wish I had more of that backstory!

Way to go Sugar. First ever sub 30 is awesome especially at those temps. Another PB to add to your impressive list already
