ChrisM - 2013-05-07 7:46 AM Woot! Silverman is back! It was on my list every year but never worked. Guess I have my October 2014 filled up.

No way!!!! How cool is that! Do you have a link for that info Chris?

I just saw a post elsewhere about WTC 70.3 Champs being rotated around a few places world wide every year. Silverman would run in the off years.

I'm thinking of maybe signing up for Wildflower next year. Maybe try my hand at a non WTC race? Lol.

BTW, Melissa, wildflower does races as well as WTC, in my opinion.  The course is great and the volunteers are mostly college kids so it's really a party.  Although I hear that the later long course waves got kinda screwed at hte later bike water stops in the heat.

I forgot about the Olympic I did last year.  I did the run in 42:07 after struggling the first couple of km with a stitch (course measured 10K according to my Garmin).  So I now realize I should lower that threshold pace.  Is the idea to basically have it match what you can do in an open 10K?

Does your swim pace in TP include the rest time, or strip it out?

Use McMillan to get a 15k equivalent, which is closer to 1 hr, which is threshold

The rest gets excluded by TP for swimming.

Thanks - made some adjustments.  Any idea if you can go back and get your previous workouts recalculated in anyway?

Hey Neil, I was just uploading a run and noticed an option for this (I think).  When I have a workout up and the "File uploaded" box is checked, i can click on that and then click the little arrow beside the file name.  There is an option there for Recalculate workout metrics.

Cool!!!  Just tried it with a run workout and it dropped the TSS value down a bit.  I just need to figure out the optimal value for the swim and then I can kill some time at home instead of doing something productive!

Given the history of this event, could you rephrase the last sentence to make sure it's clear on what took place? Wink

Unfortunately, since it's now under the umbrella of WTC as an official 70.3, probably not going to see relays, or official aquabikes.  Could always just punch your clock on the run  .    Swag probably won't be as good, that race had epic swag.  was very jealous of my friends that did it

I still remember when I first got into the sport, I of course started to target when I'd do my first IM distance race.  I picked Silverman since Hawaii people already love to go to Vegas and it seemed like an epic race.  I figured I could do it at the end of my second season in 16 hours.  Boy am I glad I didn't follow through with that.    Probably could have made it, but it wouldn't have been pretty.

The half seems like a challenge in itself that I might end up doing someday.  I wouldn't mind seeing the full come back in say 2017...LOL.

Are relays not common at 70.3's?  I'm only familiar with Muskoka and that's got a relay option - but no aquabike.

I'm too lazy to go back and try to find a post to quote....but this is in response to Arend's 20 minute 1500.

This morning, I had a good master's swim session.  Now that it's getting warmer out, it seems a lot more people are showing up, so my normal lane had way more people in it than usual, and I was leading for the most part.  Part way through the session, the coach asked me to bump up a lane....the people in the fast lane are very strong swimmers and I'm just okay.

Anyways, she had the two fast swimmers doing 4x500 on 7:30 interval and asked me to do 4x450 on the same interval (and had me bump down to 1x450 and 3x400 after I finished my first).  The two fast swimmers were coming in just north of 7:00 for their 500's....and the speed with which they passed me made me feel like I was just floating and not moving!

And then I did a little math and realized that they were on pace for ~21 minute 1500....and remembered that Arend did it in 20 minutes!  It really put into persepective how fast that is -- so I just wanted to say congrats again because that's smoking fast!!

Mont Tremblant 70.3 has relays too.  Maybe it's a Canadian thing.

I ran my entire run this morning with a rock in my shoe.  I was too lazy to take it out.  It’s a wee bit ironic that I am too lazy to take a rock out of my shoe…while running.

Been there. If it's small, I kind of try to flick it to a place in the shoe where it won't bother me much. But stop to take it out???? nah

And yes, it is ironic. Just like when I drive the half mile to the pool for my swim work out. (I walked yesterday.) Innocent

Ha, thanks.    I've worked pretty hard this year chasing those darn kids trying to keep up.  I'm hoping it gives me a bit more of an edge in races this summer.

Anybody in the group do MAF tests to gauge progress?  I know Maffetone has the 180-Age with some other additions/subtractions based on fitness to determine what HR to perform these at.  But, I see alot of other folks doing them at much different HR targets.

Any insight?  Top/bottom of Zone 2?

I believe Lake Stevens has a relay...or at least they did in 2008.  I suppose Washington State is close enough to Canada.

TankBoy - 2013-05-05 6:47 PM Hi all - thanks again for all the well-wishes. The rev3 folks were AWESOME and actually went way out of their way to make it so I could race. I went into this race aiming to win my age group, but just as I was going into the water with my wave I saw Bruce Genarri go in just in front of me. And just like that I was racing for second. If you don't know who Bruce is, you should; I think he raced pro for a while, but he is a former American champion and he has also placed either third or fourth at worlds. The first year he raced Kona was back when the pros and age groupers still started together he was the first overall out of the water. He is also a really nice guy. I had a great swim (for me) and hit the swim exit in 23:xx. It was a long run to the mats, but based on Bruce's mat time he had to be 15:xx to the waters edge. That is a gap that is tough to bridge in an Olympic distance race. I did wind up with a distant second. I know with age group racing it always depends on who shows up. But DANG! Wy did Bruce have to show up at this one?!?

Conditions were just about as awesomely awful as they could be, but at least it did not start hailing until we were driving home. My wife just got nicked off the podium with a fourth place AG - that is a great performance for her as well.

Nice job in tough conditions.

So, you've never learned the deflate-your-rival's-tire-in-transition trick?  Of course, that would have only gained you 5 minutes

The best trick I've ever seen was at the team time trial I was at.  After I did my first run at race pace, I was going to go out again in behind the last two teams.  Both teams were all employees of my LBS, one with the mechanics, and one with the guys who work more the storefront/sales.  There was a lot of trash talk between them but none of them are in that great shape.

Anyway, the first of the two teams went off, then I rode behind the second team 4 minutes later.  After less than a mile, we see one of the guys from the team ahead had crashed.  But his team didn't stop for him (of the 4 man team, the 3rd man's time counted).  So I and one of the guys on the second team stopped to help him.  Turned out he didn't crash.  He got a flat, waited there, then when he saw us coming, he layed his bike down on the shoulder, then layed on the ground with is leg up in the air as if he crashed.  His plan worked in getting one guy to stop, but his team still lost...LOL.

I do a simili MAF. I see how far I can run in 45 min holding an average of very top of Z1.

I did many at 146BPM so I just stuck to that over time.

First time (last year) I ran 9km,  today I am close to 10km.

They are "something fun to do" when i need to do an easy 45min run.

I like doing them to kill the boredom of the treadmill when I am confined to that.

70.3 WC has a disgusting swim ? If so, I disagree, it was actually quite pleasant. If it's elsewhere, I have no idea.

70.3 WC awful run ? Brutal, yes. It's not that the course is ugly or bad, it's just HARD !

So far, I see Rusty had a great race, but I am looking for the details. Congratulations

I also see Arend had a great du, which is sooooooo ironic. The fish of the group wins duathlons. Congratulations

I need to read backwards because I know I am missing some important stuff.
