I was hungry and it seemed like a better idea than polishing off the rest of the meatloaf. I had some balsamic vinegar on it. Sunday and yesterday, I have been really hungry and have been eating way to many mixed nuts.....back on track today. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been on quite the roller coaster ride for the last week. My mom had fallen 3 times in three days so I went to Texas to visit her. On the last emergency room visit, they found a spot on her lung which was eventually diagnosed to be adenocarcinoma of the lung. She also had a kidney stone so large that it couldn't be passed which has effectively shut down that kidney. It was a very long week with a lot of stress, no workouts and very little eating on my part. I am back at my training tomorrow, but I'm not feeling it like I was when I started at the beginning of the year. There's part of me that wants to work out more than ever so that I'm never in the position of being 74 and in poor health. There's another part of me that wants to give into the sadness and not get out of bed. But I will get out of bed at 4:45 in the morning and try to have a decent workout always reminding myself that I have 117 days until race day. |

That was taken today. Weight is 228# with 20.4% BF. The goal is 220#-225# with 15% BF or better. I was expecting a kilt !!! Nice job on the weight, no wonder the 10k times are cascading down!!! |

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your mom. If I may offer a suggestion, I always train best when I am angry or feel like the world is falling in on me. I channel the negativity into anger and I always train better angry. And I always feel better afterwards, or at least my mind got off of the situation for a while. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tricupcake - sorry to hear about your mom. Sometimes a nice, long walk helps the body, mind and spirit. Chin up. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Take care, Tricupcake - make sure to keep yourself as part of the priority, even as you deal with your mom. You can't help her if you don't help yourself. Take a deep breath. Go for a walk. You will get through this. (And doctor's bedside manner sucks.) |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm not sure which post skeeved me out more - eating a whole bag of lettuce or eating the scorpion-thing. Both of them kind of made me hurl a little. ![]() Looking for a good weigh-in this Friday - taper week and losing some of my retained fluid so I'm hoping for sub-160... |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll play! In December 2011 I weighed about 195. Laster year I got to below 170 and am currently at about 175. I had a little setback in January when I tore a calf muscle! I kept eating like I was running 30 miles a week and riding the trainer. I was doing neither! Gaining weight happens so quickly! I got up to 177 in no time! I'm back to counting calories and eating healthy again. And seriously ramping up my exercise! Had my first run last night since I tore my calf. I've been spending about 5 hours a week in the pool now and am backto hour plus rides on the trainer and am slowly working my intensity back up. Don't want to have to take any more time off so I'm rehabbing the calf as best I can. My short term goal is to get back under 170 by March 1st. Long term goal is to hit 150 or below. Bicycling magazine says my ideal weight for cycling is 145 to 150. I don't have a time frame for my long term goal although it would be great to hit it by summer. It's a lifestyle change to make healthier choices not a race to lose weight or a fad. Reasons for weight loss are to looke better and get faster! Everything I've read says fat loss translates into 2 seconds per mile faster when running. That combined with training should put me in the 19's for my 5k time and will be huge when I can finally swim well enough to do my first HIM. Occasionally I will pick up 20 pounds of weight and think to myself this is what I'm going to lose. Can't imagine how much easier running will be! Godspeed everyone! Keep up the good work! |

Funny you mention scorpions, cause I have eaten one of them too alive, and yes it did involve copious amounts of alcohol. I'm picking up on a pattern here. Apparently adult beverage lead me to believe I am Bear Gryls. |
