Not to mention it gets my CPR skills current again, always a good thing to have fresh in the mind.

Nice! Way to multitask -- swimming AND a side hustle!

P.S. Don't think that we didn't notice that nothing in May was mentioned

Our state requirements for the latest phase had been for folks over 50. They opened it up a bit late yesterday to include those working in a "congregate" setting, and specifically included law enforcement, corrections, and judicial officers and staff that work with public, regardless of age. We haven't done jury trials since last March but we are really needing to get them going again. Hopefully that's a step in the right direction. Just got my appointment secured for next Thursday, so I'm pretty excited about that.

And I got my first set of clip-on aerobars in the mail today, so I'm doubly excited!!!!!

About like the flu shot in a normal year (some years have been worse), not nearly as bad as the tetanus jab. So far nothing systemic like fever, chills, headache or fatigue, which several colleagues did have. I managed to swim today but wasn't up to more than easy laps with fins, mainly because my stroke felt off to both sore arm on one side and crick in neck on other side due to weird sleeping position (combo of sore arm and clingy fat cat).

Most of the people I know who had the Moderna vaccine had little reaction after the 1st shot -besides sore arm and some had a headache. Everyone felt badly to some degree after the 2d. Pfizer people i know have had no reaction after the 2d, but Pfizer uses a dose that is 1/3 of Moderna so you might expect fewer side effects. Conversely, it actually has a higher % of anaphylactic reactions (though both vaccines are very low re those reactions).

Janyne how was your reaction re Pfizer. I know you are still blinded.

Sore arm after shot #1, lymph node involvement after shot #2.

Sore arm = about as bad as the worst flu shot reaction that I have had.  In both cases, the shot was given in my left arm and I had not vote in the situation.  Maybe a little tired?  Hard to say. I didn't miss any workouts or anything.

Lymph node = very sore arm pit (felt bruised when I put on deodorant) and progressed down my toward my left breast over several days.  I had the shot on a Monday morning, I called them on Thursday because it was getting weird. By Friday, it was like nothing ever happened.  Again, I didn't miss any workouts or anything. It was just weird.

5G reception seems to be the same.

Let us know how your poking and prodding went!

All went well. 66% chance I got the vaccine. I may have a headache now but placebo can do that too. Really didn’t enjoy the nasal swab!

That is wonderful. I have to admit, i am a bit jealous. It will be late April at best before my group gets a chance.

Great news about getting your vaccine!. Biden just announced he secured another 200 million vaccines, so every place should be opening up to everyone sometime next month ( I heard) it still will take a long time to get all vaccinated , but at least if you are able to get through on your local site/s you can get one!

I think the timeline was pushed up bc I rolled the dice with the COVID trial. So anyone who gets his/her vaccine earlier than they thought should thank me

Still waiting for word on Mom's shot. It looks like she's not getting a turn at the big clinic this weekend. (You have to get a link from the county health dept, even if getting the shot at a pharmacy or clinic. Haven't found any other ways in so far.) They are prioritizing the 80+'s by age and pre-existing conditions and apparently at a fairly fit 82, she's too far to the young, healthy end of her age group. Interesting how they are doing the seniors here--instead of one mass campaign for 65+, it's a "rolling start" beginning with 80 and up, then 75-79, 70-75, etc. Just like Kona.

At 82, that just seems crazy that she's not already vaccinated, let alone on a list to get done immediately.

I got my aero bars on today. Obviously I will have to play with adjustments to them, but also to the seat....

I've been looking for a better seat lately, but our local selection is extremely limited, so I'll be moving to either a saddle demo program online, or the purchase and return method through REI.

I'm also considering the bi-saddle. Anyone on here have any experience with that one? Thanks.

Congratulations on both. I had one jury trial in October and then they moved us back to phase 1 after Halloween. The circuit judge doesn't think we will move back to having jury trials until April, even though I have them scheduled in March. I have 30 felony trials scheduled over the next 5 months. i think a lot of defendants are playing COVID chicken with the system. Hoping for a better deal, dismissal, or just not ready to give up their drug of choice.
The vaccine has gotten very political here, ie me getting pulled out of line by the National Guard. The morning I was scheduled to get it they reclassified me down a level. I had a long "discussion" (I did not Karen her, sorry Karen) with the head of our health department. She decided that because of our job requirements, she would have myself, my assistant prosecutor and victim's advocate vaccinated. The legal assistant's don't have to see people, so they were not included. We have had 3 counties that have the new variant. It is highly contagious and takes seconds to transmit. Symptoms are the same.

Let me guess -- paperwork, minor health check (temp, blood pressure, etc.) and health questions, blood draw, nasal swab, shot.

This is also a two dose vaccine, is that correct?  The second dose is in three weeks?

For the longest time, I thought Novavax and J&J were using the same technology.  Only last week did I realize that they are using two different.  J&J is Adenovirus-based whereas Novavax is Protein-based vaccine (they made a custom spike protein for our bodies to recognize -- "The vaccine contains a full-length, prefusion spike protein made using the company’s recombinant nanoparticle technology and its proprietary saponin-based Matrix-M adjuvant").  I guess I thought that because the two mRNA candidates were ready at about the same time and I thought the next two would be using the same technology as each other.

Anyway, I hope that it was interesting and that you were in the 66%.

Jim and Jason -- so glad that you are getting vaccinated. I am hopeful that all the Manatees and their families will at least begin the process in the first half of the year. I was heartened to hear that additional doses have been secured and should be available by the end of July.  That seems like a good sign.

yep, that was the procedure. Now have an app on the phone to check in each day for 7 days post shot/s.

Novavax also got special permission from the FDA to do the 66% thing v 50% AND more importantly, they got permission to bring everyone back to administer 2 extra shots - you'd get the opposite of what you go in the trial, so they don't have to unblind the test and everyone gets the vaccine. That is awesome! Now Novavax's biggest issue is proving it can supply it in mass quantities.  Hoping for an April FDA approval.

Moderna had similar questions about production.  I'm sure Novavax will be fine with it's production.

Well, i haven't even thought about the pool...

Ah!  The ride bikes and run thing.  Same.  (see also, shopping for a gravel bike)

Gravel bike talk

The weather here has been awful for outdoor activities.  I mean, some weeks, I feel fortunate that I am able to get my runs completed (I do not have access to a treadmill at this time) and it's been so wet/soggy that going for a hike is not at all appealing.  As a result, my bike research has been 100% online so far.

Question for the group:

I can most likely get access to a Niner RDO and a Cervelo Aspero to test ride.  My mechanic carries Niner and my local tri store caries the Cervelo. I am guessing that the Niner is on the more relaxed geometry side and the Cervelo on the more aggressive (for a gravel bike) side.  Is that right? I

So I had a preference for the Niner than I should also look at the more relaxed Salsa and Obed?  And if I like the Cervelo I should also look at the 3T and Ventum?  Or is it not that cut and dried?

I think that my basic question here is about geometry.

I need to talk to the Cervelo place. They also carry Quintana Roo.  I wonder if that means they can get Obeds in store?

Originally posted by Hot Runner Good luck with getting a notable but not too bad reaction. All I can report from Moderna #1 after 31 hours is a sore arm.

Anyway, I hope that it was interesting and that you were in the 66%.

yep, that was the procedure.

Let me guess -  the TrialMax app?  I fill that out (symptomatic survey) every Monday.  Now I have an at home swab to do every other Tuesday.

Moderna had similar questions about production.  I'm sure Novavax will be fine with it's production.

This app is called patient cloud. When you open it says medidata. I'm sure it is very similar to the app you use.

It seems to make sense that if you feel you prefer one of the geometries over the other that you look at similar style bikes to compare. But I also wonder if that could be misleading. Say you try the Aspero and don't like the feel. Is it the geometry or is it that it didn't fit you properly where a more "aggressive"  geometry in another brand would feel great.  Have you thought about maybe getting a bike fit first? I know we have a number of excellent fitters around here that do the pre-gravel bike purchase fit. If I had to do it again, I think I would get the fit first. Not that I don't love my aspero, but I did have to make lots of changes to get it to fit me correctly.

I just fill out a survey asking if "do you have these symptoms?"  The hardest part is remembering to fill out it.  I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me.

Congrats to you both! It is maddening that vaccines and masks etc are so political.

We keep going in and out of phases around here, so our trials are crazy backed up too. We have just moved back to criminal jury trial stage, but I won't hold my breath that it will stay in that stage for long as Florida has a big number of UK variant cases, so we are a ticking time bomb. Our Governor doesn't think so, but he lies about everything especially anything related to COVID. Thankfully, our judicial system is more in tune with science and facts.

Stay safe!!

Super interesting to hear - i was feeling very despairing about it all this morning but the commiseration maybe doesn't help the situation but makes me feel less like our own decision makers are the only ones really really struggling.

It is not an easy task to figure out who to prioritize, eg, do you go with the most at risk or the ones spreading it? Who are the most at risk? This is made worse with such a limited supply. Thankfully, the supply is growing, but there will still be major logistical issues getting shots in arms. Some Governors have done better than others. Florida does not have one of those Governors, but even here things are improving.
