Suzy, I would guess it is your rotation on your "bad" side.  If you drop your extended arm when you turn to breath the paddle will exagerate the drag that causes and you'll really notice the stopping of your forward glide.  Does that make sense?

Out of surgery and home.  The surgeon said things went well although there was excess blood in my wrist due to a sprain.  There was a bit of tearing of a tendon but not bad.  They did a block numbing so i cannot feel my right arm at all.  it is just dead weight.  Rather crazy and akward.  The screw went well although surgery ran a bit long.

We will wait  a week to see if i need a splint or cast next week when i go in for post op follow up.  On some good drugs that will keep me from pain hopefully.

Very odd feeling thst my hand is almost asleep and feels frigid cold but to the touch it is toasty.

Thanks for the thoughts again.  recdovery week of video games blogs boards and movies!

Thought you all might like this story.

I joined the Inside-Out Sport Delta Triathlon team. Basically I get discounts at the tri store, a tri jersey, and a long sleeve jersey. My coach is a sponsor of the group so I get 20% off his fees and it paid for itself already.

So I picked up the jersey and the shirt. Both are really nice so I was wearing the shirt and on the front it says:

My 9 year old son sees this and says "Dad, they mis-spelled "Idiots" on your shirt."

Made my night.

Doug, Now that is funny! You have a smart kid!

Tracy, I do think it makes sense but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to stop dropping that arm early.  I learned catch-up on my other side and it is rock solid.

Jeff, glad to see you are free after surgery.  Hope you have a decent recovery weekend.

tahrens - 2010-03-09 7:00 PM I'm late to this party (even though I originally asked for the photos), but here are a before and after with my long and short hair.  Don't make fun of my robe, it was Christmas morning.

Why does the guy in the background have 2 boogie boards?

fyi....I think you should post this in the BT girls of 2010

For those of us still on the sidelines let's start working on mental preparation and think about our next race (run, tri or other), what is the number one thing you want to nail?

Pretty sure you all could guess my answer, a really good swim at the Texas 70.3 which is defined as no freaking out....especially since I will be in the OW with the likes of John, Trevor, Andy, Sam, Tony, and Roni...oh wait, I'm old, I guess none of those guys will be in the water at the same time as me.

No, it's my Victoria Secret terry cloth bath robe.  Sexy hu? But I do have a Snuggi. It's pink, shocker I know.  Suzy, did you notice who is lurking on top of the couch in the background?  We have 5 of those out at Christmas so I really enjoyed your husband's jokes during the holidays.

GOOD LUCK RACERS!!!!

no racing for me.  booooo.

mental game question... good.   easy out on the bike as lone star.  then regardless of the weather, stay where i think i can run 10's.  i'll be very happy w/ that although i'm well aware this is a lofty goal.  not that i can't run this, obviously i can, but damn that bike is so important out on the long course.  we shall see. ;-)

Hey I'll jump in and agree with that thought. I may get outside this weekend.....I have been riding hard on the trainera ll winter. Ridden way more this winter than I ever have. Working hard in my bike classes. But I would be lying if i didn't say that I'm literally crapping my pants thinking about riding 90k outside in 45 days.

Trevor, have no fear.  I think that you will find riding outside a lot easier than you think.  All that indoor riding is going to pay off.

John- I think you will be able to go sub 10's on your run--- NO problem.  As long as you stick to your game plan on the bike.  Pancake Flat course don't be too lazy.  Neg split your run.... Golden!  1:58 Run....

2 weeks for my first race, super small sprint but the only one I could get in before Lonestar.

Actually want to focus on Transitions.  Otherwise I will just be sprinting as hard as I can the whole time 300M pool swim, 10mi bike and 5k.

I think it all had to do w/ the convention center being booked or something.  Kind of weird I know!  That was definitely a one and done for us.  That was way too many people.

gdctex - 2010-03-09 2:30 PM Advice needed:

My HRM is about to bite the dust.  I have a Polar F6 which has served me well for almost 2 years.  I promised myself I would not spend the bucks on a Garmin until after I finished a full year of tri's, so that will likely be a b-day/christmas present request later this year.

What should I get in the mean time.  Anyone have any favorites or suggestions as to decent HRMs that work well for you?

Thanks.

Glen, I really like my Garmin 305...it was actually a very good investment.  Have had it now since Dec. 2007 and it has held up well.  I think it can be purchased right now for about $155 on amazon.  If you are going to get one anyway, it might be better not to spend the extra money on something else during the interim...then it's just a waste.  And if anyone is frugal, it is me!  btw, I still have my polar F6 from 2006 and use it when I do treadmill workouts or on the bike trainer just for HR info.

 just sayin.

kim

i agree w/ kim.  great investment.  just don't forget to leave it at home once in a while.

Ditto the Garmin, here is my review of it.  working on the 310xt review while off work the next few days.

Review

Pain is low today now that I can move my arm.  It is the oddest feeling when your whole arm is dead weight.  I feel good, and its not just the pain pills talking.  It has been nice trying to stay caught up wiuth the posts, although I could not concentrate for squat last night

Jeff,  glad you're doing well.  Sorry about the surgery.  Hope all heals well soon.

I also agree with the group about getting the garmin now.   If you know you are going to get it why spend money on something else now just to get the garmin later.

To the degree you need anyone else to weigh in on this one (perhaps to convince your wife that it makes sense now), I agree.  And I come from a long line of frugality.  True story:  my father likes to wear yellow ankle socks when he plays golf (don't ask why, I don't know).  Yellow socks are $2.99 per pair.  But he can get 5 pair of white socks for $4.  So he buys the white socks and then dyes them yellow himself.

Even from that background, I would advocate for getting the Garmin now.  Unless you lack the cash currently, you will spend more in getting an interim measure for 9 months than it is worth.

No racing for me this weekend.  First race is April 11th...half marathon.  Primary goal is pacing.  This will be my second half mary.  In the first last November, I hit the wall around mile 11.  Probably from undertraining...I hope to pace myself so that I can finish strong, and not think to my self the whole time that I never want to do this again like I was thinking in November!  All that being said, I am a little short on long runs...need to get a few in the next few weeks to make sure I don't have that problem again.  Plan is for 11.5 Friday or Saturday depending on the schedule.
