Ok, manatees!  My tri clothes are here!  I know which one I'm leaning towards, but I'm curious what you all think: black or yellow?

front

back

Have you tried them on?  How do they look on you?  Which one would you want to see in your race pictures?

SHe posted pics of herself! They are really cute. Also the photobomber.

Lighter colors tend to show race crud (snot, blood, sweat, salt, gu trickles, gatorade stains, etc.) and errrr ... highbeams.

I'm going with the black.  So embarrassed by the picture of me in the green one!  At least E is cute in it.

WTF, you look awesome in both pics.

Massive self-esteem issues: I haz them!!

Read my most recent race report if you want to feel better about yourself.  Imagine this in a one piece tri suit. That's how I'm feeling lately.

Keyboard splattered with coffee - that's me right there!

Rode my bike this morning, too.  It did not go as well as Judi's ride.

I tipped over - stopped at the top of the hill and then couldn't get started again because the trailer has so much inertia.  Of course, E freaked out and started screaming.  So, I had to call DH to come get her.  Then she screamed because daddy put her in the car.  In the process of tipping over, I messed up my front derailleur and it won't shift into the big ring.  Guess I'm heading to the bike store tomorrow.

Ouch, I hope you, E, and your bike are all OK.

Hahaha! You did it! New avi is killing me.

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on in the new avi.

Yay, I can finally officially post pics of these guys:

Our new Red River Hoglets! one week old...

Our new baby Red Panda (who is NOT impressed...)

The hoglets were a bit earlier than expected, but we knew they would show up. Red River Hogs are native to central Africa, they do typical pig things, have a tendency to rip arms off of people given half the chance, and will do just about anything for Cheerios. (no, I am not kidding about any of that.)

The Red Panda-let (Pandlet? Pandittle???) is 26 days old, we had to remove him from his momma cause her milk was not sustaining or increasing his weight, so we (well, supervisors and vet staff, anyway) are hand-rearing him and feeding him now. Red Pandas are very rare, and there are two subspecies, the greater and lesser red pandas---the lesser are less dark red and a bit less fluffy (and smaller); we have the lesser. They are notoriously hard to keep alive in their first 30 days, as the parents aren't always the best --either not attentive enough, or WAY to protective (I'll spare the gory details, but it is NOT pretty.) Hopefully this guy will do okay. He's our first Panda baby in 8 years.

oh-no! Baby's ok. Bike's...rather ok. Are you ok?

One of the main reasons I'm happy with the trailer being hooked up to my mtn bike still...no clips. I would absolutely, without a doubt freak out Makenna by falling over somewhere. Surprised

I'm ok.  Have a few scrapes on my elbow and a bruise on my hip, but I've definitely had worse.

Seriously looking into getting a touring bike for pulling the trailer.  Something steel and less fragile.

I'm glad to hear that you are more or less OK.  Sorry that the bike has to go to the ER though :-(  Poo.

So my son thought these were cute, but he said "Why didn't she put up a snake picture? I'd like to see a python. Does she have any pythons?" LOL

Kirsten made it for me. Someone mentioned that I was a genie in another thread and she put that together. I nearly spit out my drink when I first saw it and I knew it had to go on there for a little while. It makes me smile a bit.

PIIIIIIIIIGLETS!!! My favorite!

And I saw a Red Panda for the very first time at the Auckland Zoo! It was feisty. I hear that's unusual, too.

I spent half my afternoon dealing with a young rat...

Photo

He was in the courtyard at my College.  I went out for my run at lunchtime, and there were some young men looking at something on the ground.  A rat.  No fear, didn't really even seem to acknowledge that we were there.  It was hot, so I wondered if maybe he was dehydrated/disoriented.  Grabbed a Hosta leaf and put some of my water in it--he drank.  Well, there was nothing I could do for him, so off I went on my run.  An hour later, I come back, he is still there.  So I run up to my office, grab an old hamster cage and go and get him.  He is obviously not right as he is not running away.  He did try to kick my a$$ when I picked him up, but once in the cage he just sat there.  Then I noticed his right eye was kinda bulgy.  Hmmm.  Well, I figure I will take him out to the woods out back, at least a bird will get a meal.  Once I get him out there, I start thinking about the fact that he may have gotten into some rat bait; if he becomes someones meal (worst case scenario--a cat), it is bye bye for them too....It is also by now obvious that the little gaffer is blind.  Crap.

So, off we go to talk to the guys in facilities about whether they use traps or poison.  The answer: both.  Crap again.  So now, off we go to my lab to get some pink juice and put him out of his misery.  And me out of mine Frown.  He was obviously in dire straights, as just the act of me scruffing him to inject stressed him out so much that he was pretty much gone.  Poor little fella.

Poor little guy.  Thanks for being such a compassionate, caring soul, even for/especially for the little creatures.

Glad you and E are OK, and hopefully E doesn't associate the one scary incident with any ride in the trailer.  Hope the bike doesn't take much to get back in proper order.

How can babies (hoglets) so cute come from such a scary-looking, ugly mama?  The little panda is adorable, I hope he thrives under the excellent care you and the zoo staff are giving him.

Morning Manatees!

Just a helpful tip - don't try to do core stuff when hung over, it's just a bad, bad, BAD idea.

Jen - I hope the front derailleur is an easy fix and you'll be on your bike again in no time!

Kate - yet again I'm envious of your job!  I hope all goes well with the red-panda-let.

Kirsten - I'm so glad you were there to help that little guy, he needed a kind soul and you were there.

Chris - MOST.AWESOME.AVATAR.EVERRRRRRR!!!!

I hope all the US people had a great time celebrating yesterday and you were smarter than I am and took today off work.

Garter snake?  You've sparked an identify venomous vs non-venomous lesson for my son....very useful for living in the AZ desert. Sealed  Of course it ended with, "When can I catch a garter snake or a gopher snake?" ..."When you're fast enough." lol

Choosing between gross and pain, I choose gross cuz gross (for the most part) will wash off.  Besides, I've gone into port-a-potties barefoot at races - this was nuthin' compared to that!
