Nutritional fact for 1 original glazed  (52 gr) KK donut:

- 200 Kcal (100 from fat), 12 gr of fat (6gr saturated), 22 gr carbs, 2 gr protein, 10gr sugar.

- one dozen = 2,400 kcal, 144 gr fat, 264 gr carbs, 120 gr of sugar, 24 gr protein

- Average optimal kcal intake I need when training 10 hr x week: 2700-2900 kcal (350-380 gr carbs, 70-75gr Fat, 125-140gr protein

I think I'll pass...

I'm guessing that most of that doesn't get absorbed considering that according to Dck's RR, most people throw them up within the last half of the run...

Dude, lighten up a little - I doubt anyone is terribly concerned about how this race is going to affect their proper training nutrition plans. It's just a stupid race, invented by guys to see how much crap they can eat and hold down, kind of like those burrito miles. It's gross, but hilarious, though I'd never do it myself. I don't think I could eat 12 donuts in one sitting, let alone eat them fast enough.

Ew. Too much of a good thing = gross.

Three is my max. Mmmmmm warm glazed donuts ...

ETA: Quote from dck4shrt's race report:

Left the Krispy Kreme store and made it about 20 steps before I realized that gulping that water may have helped donut #12 go down, but it was also going to help donuts #1-#12 come back up. Within the first mile I puked 4 times. Then my stomach settled and I was feeling pretty good the rest of the way. I didn't break stride when puking. It was pretty relieving to puke and it felt totally natural and unimpeded at the moment. Other challengers were cheering/laughing every time someone else puked. There were piles and splatters of puke all over the road.

I did the one at NC State this year and had a BLAST!  Finished in 36:21 with a 7 minute donut split (finished like 48th out of 5500)!

It really was a great fun for this 34 year old dad dressed in full costume whoopin' them youngsters  (majority of the runners were college students)!

Unfortunately the donuts kicked my on the 3 hour drive home as the sugar low caused me to curled in the fetal position for the next 24 hours.

In the 6 months following this race, I have consumed zero krispy kreme donuts....

I will probably never do this race again, but I can tell you I will never forget it!

12 Original Glazed Krispy Kreme Doughnuts contain:

:: 2400 calories

:: 1200 fat calories

::144g of fat

:: 36g of saturated fat

:: 0g of trans fat

:: 60mg of Cholesterol

:: 1140mg of sodium

:: 120g of sugar

I signed up for the NC State one in 2008 but had to bail because I was moving to Richmond. My brother lives in Chapel Hill so I still want to do it some day. Me and Krispy Kreme go way back.

I did it last year (the NC State one). It's a lot of fun.

Read my RR if you want some details on the 'carnage'.

I always meant to tell you that your Krispy Kreme RR is perhaps my favorite ever on BT. I have sent it to many friends. I especially love the part where you eat half of donut 10 and put it back in the box to save for later.

I will never, ever do this race. But I hope lots of BTers do it this year because I so enjoy the RRs.

The original at NC State involves the "challenge" donuts included and the race without eating the donuts. It is alot of fun. I did it a couple of times and grabbed my donuts and handed the them to one of the cops managing the course. By the end of the race, one of the police cars was literally covered with krispy kreme donuts to be taken back to the station. A word of caution, the race finish is not for the faint of heart. Quite of bit of vomit deposited on the small grass hill leading up to the clock tower.

A must do race for any NC athlete.

*****WARNING WARNING WARNING******
PLEASE EVERYONE.... DO NOT EAT THE DONUTS!!!

Don't eat them, don't smell them, don't even look in their direction or they will ban together and jump on you and attach themselves like blood suckers leaching the life out of you...

Ok, Carry on.

I kind of agree on this one. Donuts and running?
Donuts are for AFTER running. Before napping.

I am with Jorge on this.

I enjoy having fun as much as the next person ... but I just don't understand the connection between gorging on donuts and running.

To each his own I guess.

There is no connection...they are kinda opposites...that's what makes it fun/funny IMO.

I think that this race presents a challenge and that's why it is so popular. Its kind of like a duathlon. (ok maybe not but it makes me feel better about it)
When I was training for it I would run on a full stomach. One training run I did eat 3 KK donuts. Boy were they good, and they didn't come back up either. Makes me salivate just thinking about it...

I propose the following training plan:

1st week - 2 mile warm up - eat 2 donuts - 2 mile intervals each day
2nd week - 2 mile warm up - eat 4 donuts - 2 mile intervals each day
3rd week - 3 mile easy pacy - eat 6 donuts - 2 mile race pace
4th week - 6 mile long - eat 8 donuts - 2 mile cool down
5th week - 2 mile threshold - eat 10 donuts - 4 mile slow
6th week - taper - eat 12 donuts -

Remember to hydrate with chocolate milk throughout the training plan or to enhance performance you can substitute coffee (for the caffience affect)

follow this plan and your gauranteed to amaze your friends at the Krispy Kreme Challenge, of course they may not recognize you due to the weight gain.

just jump into the race with no training cause you wouldnt really like that training. I would also recommend practicing vomiting after your workouts. Yakking during the race before you run back is bad form. Yakking after the race is finished is very wise ( I learned the hard way ). You will experience a form of a sugar crash. It is like a bad hangover (headache, upset stomach, weakness) except without the alcohol.
