Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by trigal38 Originally posted by BrianRunsPhilly By popular demand as started in another thread, here is my marathon breakup story. I had a good friend who was part of a small group that ran together and trained and did a couple marathons. Anyway we started dating and kept running with the group, and she and I decided we wanted to run Boston together. We ran the Philly Marathon, I BQ'd and she missed it by 3 minutes. Told her we could train that winter and do a spring marathon and I'd pace her. She trained like a maniac and our relationship got pretty hot and heavy. Oh, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out she was smoking hot. To the point where my friends hassled me about why the heck would she go out with ME. Good friends, right? Anyway, we get to race day, all of us are there. She is really nervous. We take off and she's looking great. We hit the halfway mark and she's 10 minutes under her BQ time. Then she gets sick, some kind of intestinal issue. Now's she's stopping for the porta-potty and her time is slipping. I'm trying to keep her going and she's getting frustrated and angry. By mile 18 I can see she's really sick and we should stop. One I said that, she starts yelling at me. So I start pacing her again, and she can't hold pace, and now it's my fault. By mile 20 she's full blown screaming at me and telling me what an a-hole I am. Then she starts crying. Around mile 22 she's so dehydrated from the runs she falls. I go to pick her up and she slaps at me, so now I'm getting p-ssed too. We walk a little, run a little, no talking. The last mile she says f-this and takes off running, makes sure she cuts me off in the finishers chute to pass me, and the race is finally over. We go back to the hotel room and she tells me she can't date anyone who is faster than she is (no lie!) and we're done. I talk to her a couple times after that, but no real explanation, nothing really said. She stops running with us and also cuts off all contact with the group of people we've been training and going out with for a post-run beer for the last 4 years. Oh, still see her at races every now and then. Last year there was a race picture of me and you can see her in the background ![]()
I ran my husband in for the last 7 miles of a marathon one time. I was all chatty and cheerful. Finally he looks at me and growls "would you just be quiet already!". I learned people are not on their best behavior during a marathon My first half marathon was with my wife, and within two miles she was dogging me about my pace. I simply told her "honey I love you and I wamt to stay married to you. So you need to get the f$$$ out of here and run ahead. This is my pace." It worked. We don't really run together, but as I drop weight and catch up, I warn her that I will be faster soon enough, and in her first tri this august, I will definitely be ahead of her. But yeah, the couple that runs together, may just need to drop it and catch up at the finish line. |

The DH and I were on a "meet and greet" group ride with the local tri group that we wanted to see about joining... well what was supposed to be an easy 30km ride turned into a freakin' hill fest of 60+kms. WHAAAAAT? I know DH was just trying to keep my spirits up by chatting away, but at one point I had to tell him "honey, I love you - but you really need to shut up. NOW." |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have never had a bad break up... ehh, worthy of a "story". I'm not much for drama... but I was part of one. I was in the Navy and friends with this girl. She was always dating someone. Well she starts telling me about how terrible her boyfriend is..... story of my life... but then we hook up. Now I do not cheat on girlfriends, and I do not like going out with someone who is cheating... she was the first. But she was going to break up with him when he came back from being out. Well we keep "dating", I decide to give her a call one night after a few too many, and he answers wanting to know who it was... well... we didn't exactly become instant friends. She did break up with him, but he still had some stuff at her place. We go out one night having fun, and return to him on her door step to get his stuff. I asked her how she wanted to handle it... she said come on. She was afraid of him. She introduces us... soooo you are Powerman... we go inside. He has a friend, I have a friend. I'm not confident with the friend I have. This guy just looks psycho. Without a doubt would have kicked my but. I figured my only chance was that we were inside in close quarters and I had stuff to work with. But everything in the place was going to be destroyed. For an hour we sat there. He would toy with us. Try to get under my skin. Sort of fight with her... I was wondering how I was going to get to the knives... the most intense hour of my life. It was all very Dennis Hopper'ish... like in "Blue Velvet". He finally wanted to talk to her alone in her room. She said it was fine. Instantly I jump on his friend to see where he is at. He assures me he had no idea this was going down and wants no part of anything. He talked to her for a bit... who knows, they could of had sex... she was pretty crazy... finally came out, left, and I never saw him again. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I got in the middle of a couple/break up. I don't do cheating drama. Life is much too short for that crap. Now the funny thing with that girl was that I really liked her. She kept on trying to get me to move in with her, but because I knew her past, I did not trust her for one second... and we got along BEAUTIFULY. She would try to manipulate me, I knew it, and we got along famous. We eventually broke up... with no drama... and I was actually bummed over it... I just knew long term it was not going to end well. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by noelle1230 So I'll be admitting that I'm the big dummy for not only dating, but living with this guy back in my late 20's. I was already into fitness and he was smoker who hated exercise. It was bound to work from day one! Anyway, he was a rocker type, that's how he got me. He was tatted up, with bleach blonde spiky hair, an earring, played guitar, wrote me love songs. But he was also the quintessential bad boy standing 6' 4", 240 with a tough guy attitude. He worked hard but had very little ambition to do better than a paycheck to paycheck kind of life. I tried to break it off so many times, but he had family issues and clung to me like a life raft so I felt guilty. I had also never lived alone. I went from parents' house, to dorm, to boyfriend to boyfriend and it was a bad pattern that contributed to keeping me locked into a crappy relationship. Two years in I had finally had enough. I told him I'd just move out but we wouldn't break up, thinking I could ease out of things and soften the blow. I went on vacation with my mom to the Grand Canyon and he kept calling me and telling me he "found out about the other guy", the guy that didn't exist. As though it would get me to admit something that wasn't even happening. He said he was going to burn all my stuff. He had me so upset, and here we are trying to enjoy the Grand friggin' Canyon. My mom was pi$$ed at him and worried about me. I told her I had it under control. Upon returning from vacation, I came back to our apartment to start packing some stuff up. He was super duper agitated. He accused me of cheating with a good friend of mine who was never more than just a friend. I started feeling a little nervous so I went for the door but he blocked it. It's all kind of a blur but I think I was about to scream. He grabbed me from behind and put his hand over my mouth. I couldn't breathe. We struggled, ended up on the floor and he finally let go. I somehow found a way to appease him for the moment, to make him think I loved him and that maybe I wouldn't move out after all. I told him I'd go retrieve some of the items I had already moved to the new place and he bought it. I high tailed it out of there, called my parents and we headed directly to the police station to file a report. Uh, you're gonna put your hands on me?? Really?? They suggested I file a restraining order which I did. My parents and brother helped me move my stuff out while the ex stood by harassing me all the way. We were just tossing stuff randomly in boxes, it was killing organized me. But I got out. When I started organizing my stuff later I realized how many little items he kept, like one shoe, underwear, my favorite dress, little things you wouldn't notice until later. I changed my cell, kept my address as my parent's address after moving in with a completely new roommate the ex didn't know existed and watched my back like heck for about a year. He called and hung up on me at work almost daily. The best part of the story: when I went to the courthouse to file the restraining order, they told me I was entitled to a copy of his file. His file? Yes folks, he already had two other restraining orders. The internet was just becoming popular then, but there's something to be said for background checking your dates! Eff that. Restraining order, bad sign. Multiple restraining orders, yikes! I'm glad that went down as "well" as it did.

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to an all-boys high school. My gf at the time dressed up as a guy so that she could sneak in and follow me around. I should have known then, but it took me another couple of years to break up with her. Then she pretended to be pregnant. Then she demanded that I pay her back for the train ticket she bought to come and visit me the last time we were together, since I obviously hadn't loved her anymore then. Then, (this is years later, mind you) she found out where I worked and showed up unannounced at my job. For years, I have lovingly referred to her as "She Who Will Not Be Named". I'm worried that the mere utterance of her name will cause her to appear. |

![]() Originally posted by blueyedbikergirl Originally posted by trigal38 Then there is the best friend break-up story from college. I get sued in that one I wanna hear about THIS one!!! Ick, ok, kinda boring really but here ya go, I went to a small state university with a few other friends from high school. We all lived in the dorms together for a couple of years. Some of my friends joined sororities, some did not (I did not). It didn't matter much at this school because it was so small and everyone knew each other. It's not like you were in a huge school with no friends and trying to fit in. One particular friend pledged a sorority and did not make it the first year she tried. She spent that year just a little obsessed about getting in but pledged again the next year and got in. By this time she is a senior in college but she got in and her world was complete. We were planning on moving out of the dorms and into an apartment. She found a few of her sorority friends and we all moved in to share the rent - 4 of us. I was the only one not in the sorority. Fine, I did not care too much except as I'm moving in I find out all the details. They were all on the lease but I was the extra just there to share the cost of rent, not on the lease. This seemed like a minor thing with little consequences like I did not get to park in the parking lot. I really did not care too much about that as I could park on the street right by the apartment- not a big deal. I didn't have a key for a while also but we must have worked that out, I don't really remember. The real problem was 2 of these girls were nut jobs. One of them was OCD. She would leave nasty notes in the kitchen if there was a crumb on the counter. She wrote her initials on every thing of hers in the fridge down to every individual egg, marked her shampoo bottles etc. To compliment her OCD behavior, the other girl stole stuff. Little things: CD's, shampoo, who even knows what all. Then all the girls would have pre-parties at the apartment and be really nasty to me since I was an outsider now. I remember talking on the phone to my boyfriend (now husband) who lived in Texas at the time and they would get on the phone and order me to get off and other stupid nonsense like that. I started to show physical signs from the stress of living with these girls. I had hives, lost weight and some female issues. I barely ever stayed there anymore but hung out with other friends or stayed at my sisters house who lived nearby. My parents were paying for the apartment and they finally had enough and told me I had to move out. As I was moving my stuff the girls came home and started screaming at me saying they knew I was going to do this and they already talked to a lawyer - they were going to sue me for rent money. You would have to know my Dad but he does not take threats well. So now we lawyer up. Lovely. I was really trying to find a way to pay the rent myself on my 10 hour a week minimum wage salary from the video store to avoid all of this but Dad was not having it. In the meantime, months go by, I see these girls out at parties and the girl who was supposed to be my good friend gets drunk and yells at me, cusses me out, says she hates me. I just stand there looking at her making a fool out of herself. When she says she hates me I say well that is kind of obvious and the feeling is mutual so if you are finished I guess we can just move on and I'll see you in court. Really I'm thinking to myself that this is just like one of those Mean Girls movies but I never thought people actually behaved this way! Court day comes. Dad offers to take off work and come with me, my sister and boyfriend (he had moved home from Texas by now) said they would come with me but I told them all no. I wanted to stand on my own 2 feet. Well, me and the lawyer The actual "trial" if you call it that for something like this was a total joke. I had to go on the stand for them to ask me ridiculous questions. One of my favorites: "Do you think we are idiots?" I just looked at the judge on this one and he said to answer, I said "No". He said "Please let the court show Miss W. does not think Miss X is an idiot". The courtroom got a chuckle out of that one. Everything was settled in the end. I did not owe them any additional rent money based on a verbal agreement, case closed. I think we had to pay court costs or something like that. I hate this story and it was a really terrible experience but it did force me to grow up. Character Building I guess you could call it! I saw my friend at our 10 year class reunion and she actually apologized. She said she felt betrayed that I left her with those other nut jobs. We are friends on facebook but after she posted pic after pic in her bikini I hid her |

Queen BTich![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I don't think this classifies as a bizarre 'breakup' but the fallout was pretty substantial. I haven't told the story in a while and it still makes me a little proud that it was pulled off. I don't care if it makes me seem like the 'crazy' one, but I will say the breakup was over, the ex was not harmed at all. To me, the involved parties got what they deserved.
