You can do the math based on these numbers.

I think you just did all the math!

No, I meant for 2009.  Using the same percentages:

2009 IMKY

2,988 registered

2,232 starters

756 DNS (25.3%)

2026 finishers

205 DNF (9.2%)

DNS + DNF = 961 (32.2%)

Net % finishers:    67.8%

"756 DNS (25.3%)"

If those numbers hold thats almost 400K worth of entry fees.

It being my first IM and accounting for the 3 Hs (Heat, Humidity, Hills), frankly, I will be very pleased if I can drag myself across the line in 16:XX.

Hey all you IM Louisvillers, I need your help.  I am the #1jockstrapper whose sister is once again doing Louisville in '09, and her and I were talking this morning, on this beautiful snowy Chicago morning, about races for next year, prelim plans for Louisville, etc, and I mentioned to her that I thought I saw a thread or post on here about the Louisville bike course changing due to construction?

Was I right or did I imagine that?

She did the race it's inaugural year in 2006, but her boyfriend did it last year, so that's why I told her, thought since then it changed?

Thanks peeps!!

Thanks for doing the math...it is early and I haven't had enough coffee yet. And thanks for the advice and great perspective on simply getting to the line healthy!

As for predictions, I'll keep with party line and say finishing is fine. However, I'll admit that I've been checking `08 times recently and goal elevation is certainly something I'm falling victim to ;-)

simple answer  Yes... there was a thread about it,,  It was almost changed last year but the construction was pushed back.. So from what I"ve read/heard the course they are using was the one they planned on doing last year.  There are four maybe five youtube clips of a female pro  (heather G????) riding the course.  if you were to do a search on youtube of imky or louisville or whatever it's called bike course you should find it...

hope this helps

I figured that's what you meant.  I keep referring to the 2008 race as "last year" even though it's really this year.  I also refer to 2009 IMKY as "this year" even though it's next year.  :-)

Here is a just in time schedule for those with the "just want to finish" mindset:

Sport Goal Total Time
 Swim 1:451:45
 T1 :08 1:53
 Bike 8:00 9:53
 T2 :06 9:59
 Run 7:00 16:59

As always, my primary goal is to have fun.

My time goal is really just to better my 2008 time.....either by 1 second or 1 hour....doesn't much matter.  I'm gonna train as much as I can and race as hard as I can and whatever happens, happens....it's all good.

Hey, we need to make one of these videos next year!  Get about 50 BTers (in yellow BT/IMKY shirts) and we'll scout the course with a camera.  We can get some footage of the giant catfish chasing Abbie...and a shot of Bob getting off the bike and running into the porta-pottie...

Goal is to get to the start healthy.  If I can do that, I think I have a pretty good chance of finishing if I manage my nutrition well.

Don't know enough about myself yet to estimate a time more precise than <17 hrs, which would be a PR.
