Woot!!  I've been waiting for goals.  You guys RAWK.

I just entered one, tagged it as displaying on the sidebar, and then wished I had put it on the dashboard.

Went in to edit it to change the location, and I couldn't find a place to do that.  Ended up deleting the goal and recreating.

Possible to edit the location of the goal after it's created?

Good idea. We'll get it done over the next few days.

Another goal thing...

I just created a second goal - a running goal - and told it to create in the sidebar.  It's not showing up (did a Ctrl-F5 to clear the cache).  If I go into settings, it's listed there, though.

I'm using Google Chrome, but I pulled up my blog in IE7, and it wasn't showing up on the sidebar there either...

love the goals!!!

One request - can the albums have separate privacy settings than logs?  I am ok with guests seeing my logs - and sometimes that is a good thing - but photos I would like to keep to only members of the site....

I know you have a 'text' option for the goals, but in the running goals (probably also swimming/biking as well) it would be nice to have a way to do a goal time for a specific distance.  Even better would be to have goal times for upcoming races.  Perhaps leave the existing stuff alone and add a 'race' goal to the drop down.

Another thing with the weight.... How about "body fat percentage" goal either separately or as part of the weight.  My goal weight takes body fat percentage into account.  I'm happier with 160lbs with 6% body fat as compared to 150lbs with 10% body fat.

Nope.
To edit your dashboard from within your blog you need to have "Use rich editor for blog and forum posts?" set to Yes.

I created a weight goal, but I got an error when I opened my training log and was unable to access my training log.  I had to back up and delete the weight goal to get into my training log.  I hadn't entered a weight yet, so I did that.  Then I was able to create a weight goal and have it work right.

Did you enter the same goal?

Same weight the 2nd time, but I think I put in a different value for the length of time and UOM to maintain the weight afterwards.  First time I think I put in X months, then selected X days the second time.  Honestly, I didn't really get the point of specifying the length to maintain the goal weight.  Ideally I'd like it to be forever, right?

starfsh106 - 2010-03-10 11:14 AM Thanks for the cool goals module, guys! One thing - I just entered some weight goals, but the graphs in my training log don't seem to work as planned. The dates on the X-axis are overlapping, and the Y axis is all 0s. There are no data points on the chart even though I entered my weight...is there a way to tell it what data to show? I'd love to see the weight by week or something...

Yeah, that graph is terrible, we'll be redoing it. Small graphs are tough, particularly when dealing with potentially large datasets.

BTW, I'm seeing it in your log. Awesome progress since the beginning of the year!

Thanks on both counts!

I created a weight goal of losing 20 lbs by 8/7/10 and it says I need to gain 0.9 per week to reach my goal.  If only it really worked like that.

That's a good one. We'll get it fixed tonight or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow as it's after 7pm and I'm off to the pool...

New complaint observation.  I've deleted some goals but they still remain on the sidebar.  Is there a way to remove them?  Also, the graph for my swim goal shows 194 completed out of 50K.  It should be 19.4K.

I like this goal feature but I have a feeling that it might force me to train more. Cool

the sarc style does not work....the old way still does.  When you select it it appears to be sarc whilst editing but reverts to normal text when posted.  And once you select it you cannot deselect it.

This is an example of the sarcasm style. It looks like it when editing.

this is the old way, and still unable to deselect sarcasm so it looks like sarc even before saving.

An explanation for those of you wondering what this is about:

A few years ago we came up with the convention of using red italic text to indicate a sarcastic statement*.  We even implemented a BBCode tag for it - [ sarc ] [/ sarc ], which is the "old way" mentioned above.

As part of yesterday's updates, an something of an Easter Egg, we included a Sarcasm style in the rich text editor. It's available via the Styles menu. Here's how it works.

TriToy, try these steps. Note the difference from what I posted in the off-topic forum.
  1. type something.
  2. Select 'sarcasm' from the Styles menu and type some more.
  3. Select 'sarcasm' again on the Styles menu and type some more.

The result should be this:

type something. type some more. type some more.

*It's frequently used to indicate a sardonic statement as well, but most people use the word sarcasm to describe sardonicism.

I did that here and on the off topic thread and get EXACTLY the problem I mention.  Look at your own post - it shows as sarc whilst editing but NOT in the final post....

and I am unable to select styles after selecting sarcasm.....it just stays as sarcasm...

(I was a software engineer - so well aware of testing....)

tribrz, I see the cause of the problem, but I'd like some input.

You defined your goal as "By 8/7/2010 I will weigh at least n lbs for 7 consecutive days."
If you want to lose weight, the goal should be "By 8/7/2010 I will weigh no more than n lbs for 7 consecutive days."

Because you want to lose weight, you do weigh "at least" your target. As defined, your goal will go to a "Met" status after 7 days. We obviously need to add something to the status message to indicate that the weight target is being met.

The style function assigns a class of 'sarcasm' to the selected span of text. If you're not seeing the text in red above, that would indicate the old css file is still in your browser cache.

Found another issue.  The graph for my swimming goal shows 222 yards for the month instead of 22,200 yards.  On the goal editing tab it also shows 222 yards.  It's consistent but off by a couple of decimal points.

Am I missing something in this new goals thing (which is fabulous by the way)?

I can't seem to add a goal that says, "I want to swim 150,000 yards by such and such date".  It seems to want to average it over months...i.e. swim 30,000 yards per month for 5 months...which isn't the same thing at all.

Am I just doing it wrong?
