Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread My son makes me laugh every single day. I love seeing the world through the eyes of someone who’s seeing so many things for the first time. He’s a typical boy, who loves bugs and army men, and getting dirty, but sometimes he’s so sweet he makes my heart ache: Last fall, when he was about to start Kindergarten, we told him that we had to let his nanny, who’d been with him since he was 8 months old, go, so that she could find a full-time job, since she couldn’t work full-time for us anymore. Needless to say, he was heartbroken. The next day, he took his little guitar (which he doesn’t really even know how to play) to the park, put his Little League cap on the sidewalk by his feet, like he’d seen the street performers do in the Subway, and played his guitar and sang for hours, so that he could "get some money to give to Elena, so that she wouldn’t have to leave". |

Extreme Veteran 592 Long Island | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread As others have mentioned, experiencing things for the first time through their eyes, super soaker fights in the pool(that would last about 5 seconds with my wife), constant availabilty of Mac'n cheese, having someone get me a Bluepoint ale from the fridge...oh wait wrong thread. There's nothing better than traveling with my kids, watching them enjoy skiing, white water rafting, rollercoasters, boating whatever. Experiencing these things with my kids ups the awesome factor 10x. I spend as much time as I can with my 9 yo twins cause I'll never get another chance. |

Champion 6056 Menomonee Falls, WI | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread What I love about having kids: They aren't afraid to look and act completely and utterly ridiculous-- and remind me it's okay for me to do, too. (Right now, my 6-year-old goes EVERYWHERE wearing a red cape, usually with plaid shorts.) I get to be Darth Maul and have lightsaber battles with Obi Wan Kenobi and QuiGon Jinn every single day. I have two buddies to watch "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Empire Strikes Back" -- two of my FAVORITE movies-- over and over with. They've taught me that trains really are very cool. When we play basketball together, I finally get to play Center (I'm 5'10"). After their baths, they "sneak" up on me and powder me with baby powder, getting it all over my clothes. For this they are mercilessly punished, being thrown onto a big bed covered with pillows repeatedly. They are ingenious in finding places to hide in our house during "Hide and Seek". After a long day dealing with just nasty, ungrateful clients, they show me there is, in fact, still hope for humanity. Kids rock. |

And also as it says in someone's sig line here on BT, "the bogeyman checks under his bed for my kids" LOL, that's me. It was a joke my wife and came up with. They can be a handful at times. But a love my children so much. It's great to see the 9 year old teaching the 1.5 year old to do something. LEGOS and Star Wars all over again. My son introduced me to Fineas & Ferb. The way my 1.5 year old say "tgah-ga" which sounds so much like "Thank You" when you hand her a cup of milk. As I've said before. I never really wanted kids. Until I had one. Now I cannot ever imagine not having them. |

Don't forget the Transformers and GI Joes My child is a bit of a tomboy - never liked dolls or Barbies but plays with hubby's old GI Joe. One day while playing she says:?? You had one and sold it at the yard sale."? ?Child: "Ya but I really think now that GI Joe needs someone to play with"? ?Me: Giggling? ? |

Veteran 407 | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread My sons have given me so many wonderful gifts but the greatest gifts of all....................4 beautiful grandchildren! For me a second chance at being a better parent. You truly learn from your mistakes and one of mine was not really listening each time one of my sons needed my attention. Now I listen to every word and when I am with my grandchildren I am really in the moment. When I was raising my boys life was too busy to truly enjoy everyday with them. I now have the time and that second chance with the little ones. I will be forever grateful. |

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread Having kids has made me a better person. I am not sure I would ever know my strength and ability if I hadn't had kids. When I am on long runs or competing I remind myself I pushed out 5 babies sans drugs, 3 of those at home! Birth was monumental for me and gave me confidence I never had before. I enjoy my children and love spending time with them. Watching them become great people brings me more joy than I thought possible. |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread One of the best things in the world is to have your kids run to greet you when you come home from work. It is even better when the work day was a lousy one! No one at work is ever as happy to see me as my kids are when I come home. |

Master 2477 Oceanside, California | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread Posted this on another thread, but worth repeating. I have been on the road doing job interviews. The feeling when I see them running to the door to meet me when I return. Not only is it joy in the purest form, but it gives me the peace to accept the reality that I may spend another year in a crappy job in a crappy neighborhood. At least I have my job and health, so that I can provide and spend time with my family. Worse case scenario, the interviews reminded me of that. |

I'll admit to being a sucker for those movies. My wife watched Up! the other day by herself and cried...
hey, that's a sad movie (or there's some sad parts in it at least)!!! no shame in that game! |

Master 2083 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread I love the that kids know no limits. They haven't been taught that they CAN'T do anything yet. (not talking about shouldn't do something but that they are physically unable to do something) Seeing what they manage to do amazes me. I have 7, 3, and 1 and at 12 months my 1 yr old was climbing ladders, rock walls, swinging, and sliding with absolutely NO assistance. They remind me that the only limits we have are the ones we impose on ourselves. |

Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread Ahhh, mine are still little, 2 and 4. They say the funniest things every single day. Why I'm glad I have kids? Too many reasons to list but here are a few: To help 2 birth mothers who were not ready to raise babies. Hearing "I love you Momma" 5,000 times a day. So we can spend time taking family days to do fun things. Otherwise my husband would play golf and I would s/b/r all of our free time away. Snuggling, reading stories, baking cookies, prayers at night time, and of course Disneyland!!!!! |

Having your kids meet you at the finish line, or on the course! After 4 years of university and 20 years of work experience, I've learned more about multi-tasking and prioritizing from being a mom! Elite 4583 | Subject: RE: The "glad I have kids" thread The sweet reasons: 1. My 11 year old daughter still calls me Mama...warms my heart everytime I hear it 2. I get to be Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the Leprechauns, the Tooth Fairy, and the Birthday Fairies and my girls still believe in it (although I'll have to break it to the 11 year old soon!) 3. I always have a buddy to hang out on the couch with 4. They believe in me and believe I can do anything even on the days that I don't believe in myself 5. Their goodnight smooches The convenient reasons: 1. If I ask they will run from the basement to the 3rd floor to get me my cell phone 2. Think I'm the best microwave cooker in the world 3. Occasionally get to eat junk food because 'the girls wanted it!' 4. Have built in snugglers during softball season when hubby is away traveling with his high school team 5. I can ask my 11 year old names of popular bands/singers so I don't look like such a dork to my middle school students! |

He wanted a Eskimo and butterfly kiss and then asked if I would lay beside him to help him off to sleep. As I lay next to him with my eyes shut and I pretended to fall asleep, he put his arm around me and I did the same. I knew he was watching me. I slowed my breathing and he took a deep breath as I could tell he was relaxing and ready to settle down. Such a wonderful feeling! |
