Veteran 250 | Subject: RE: OCT: HELP MAKE BT WARM AND FUZZY CHALLENGE! saling4 - 2006-09-27 10:05 PM Okay, I am a real newbie so I hope I am not screwing this up. I know as a newbie that I don't know what to ask or I may see answers like "ride more' Swim more". I know this is true buuuuuuuut, How about trying a short term mentoring type program for newbies. something like: Newbie ask for Mentor/s Mentor looks at training logs and and makes suggestions on how to get better with a little more than DO MORE. If this is out of line for this location I am sorry. Brian Out of line? This is the best post you could make on a BT warm and fuzzy thread. There is nothing more discouraging than hearing that you will never improve unless you ride 100 miles per week or the way to swim faster is to start swimming 20 years ago, which seem to be the cut and paste answers around here. Or worse, "why ask us, only you can make that decision". |

I am going to up my Introduce yourself from 5-10...and Race Reports from 4 to 8. I think this is very doable and a great way to make BT a very positive place. |

Another good idea from Hangloose... now if he could just figure out how to make work pay for all triathlon purchases, then he would move up to the genuis ranks. I am in! Although, as I look at my stats, I have never posted on Introduce yourself, so I have some work to do. I will do 10 in Intro' and 20 in RR, added to this number below: Triathlon Talk 61 Challenge Me! 29 Race Reports! 21 Gear Reviews & Questions 8 Wisconsin 3 Illinois 1 Iron Distance 1 |

Member 95 | Subject: RE: OCT: HELP MAKE BT WARM AND FUZZY CHALLENGE! I really like this idea. I'm also fairly new to this site and like sailing4's idea of having a kind of mentor figure who looks at your logs - I was in the September challenge and it was so nice to have people put 'inspire me' messages on my training log. I'd love to have a few people who I can connect with on a regular basis and keep me focused and motivated... Afraid that most of my posts have been questions to the more experienced members on the site so probably not value added for this challenge.

Crystal Lake, IL | Subject: RE: OCT: HELP MAKE BT WARM AND FUZZY CHALLENGE! I love it. Fuzzy can be our mascot for this challenge. You know, it's not even Oct yet and I've done a couple of extra posts each day in these two forums and I realized that it is a very small amount of time to just pop in there, scan for someone with a low number or responses, read their post and respond. Just two per day will result in WAY more than I committed to. I'm just going to try to make it a habit that when I do my log entry I do a couple "warm and fuzzys". edited to add that I don't know why this is underlined like a link. I didn't do this on purpose, sorry. Edited by hangloose 2006-09-29 8:12 AM |

From scanning the introductions and race reports, I no longer see threads with only 1 or 2 posts. They all get up to at least 5 and most seem to be 8 or 9. Funny what a little attention will do. |

Thanks, I've noticed the same thing. I just hope we keep it up. I've actually gone back 6-7 pages to find older ones with very few posts and done some posting there. I don't know if people are still checking their threads and seeing them but I hope so. In some cases I'll go into their logs and give them an inspire instead of posting on a race report or introduce youself since they were back in August. |

I commit to 2 more Race Reports posts (I'm too new to make anything honestly worthwhile since I haven't raced yet myself - kind of odd offering loads of meaning when I don't know what I mean... know what I mean? haha). And I commit to 20 Introduce Yourself posts. As a newbie its easy to type these up since I've already seen dramatic changes in my fitness levels and waist line in just 8 weeks. Thanks for pulling this together hangloose. Today:
So I crushed my race report goal (had fun posting for a bunch of North Carolina races) and stunk on my intro goal. Need to up that.... |

I've connected with other newbies, but love the idea of having someone more experienced to "mentor" me. I really love getting feedback and since I'm officially hooked on this sport I need all the help I can get! |
