Subject: RE: Fastest Bike Speed???Personally - 53.1 mph coming down a 17% grade hill in the Highlander Cycle Tour, a century in upstate NY with brutal hills. No aerobars, just a big tuck and a big gear and a big push. Not even someone to draft behind. Got to make sure you've got your wheels trued cause otherwise that first slight wobble (accentuated at speed ) is all she wrote. And scout the hill first for rocks, turns, you name it...
Editorial note: Same hill, different guy (Jim Scorse ) went 67.6 mph down the same hill...I thought he was drafting the TGV, but it turned out he drafted a car for 3/4 mile, then three other guys pulled hard down the hill for him, slingshotting him down the steepest part of the hill (about 19% ). We even checked his cyclometer to make sure he wasn't using 650s on the bike but the cyclometer calculating based on 700s. And the French doping agency cleared him, too. Ohmigod.
