Fred D - 2012-04-15 2:55 PM
tri808 - 2012-04-15 8:35 PM

Finished my TT climb in 22:08...which I'm very happy with.  I'll have a full RR up when results are posted...I didn't stick around for the awards.  Shaved 80 seconds off my time last year.

To Fred's point...I wasn't using my powertap for this race, but I would guess that from training results in the 24:30 range at 285 watts (no race gear, 2 bottles, and full saddle bag), I was pushing about 305-310 watts for this race.  Yet I was 3 minutes slower than the winner who may be about 20 pounds lighter than me.  I have no doubt they're pushing 330+ watts at probably 63 kg.  So maybe 5 w/kg.

It's very humbling to race against true roadies...especially in their element...on the hills.

Yeah, except the guy who crushed me isn't a roadie....he's a triathlete lol. Truthfully he is a monster on the bike who occasionally I can beat if I get lucky. I out split him on the bike at Columbia last year, but he's a much better runner. Always someone faster than you.

LOL...pro triathlete Tim Marr (who has a career best top 15 at Kona in 2008), had a start time 2 minutes after me.  My goal was to not let him pass me...and I held him off...barely.  I don't think he had an ideal race though.  He'll be doing Wildflower next month.

ChrisM - 2012-04-15 6:01 PM Total drive by brag. . Did a pretty hilly 3 hour ride this morning ( same 9 mile climb as last week, but added some rollers and climbs along the spine of the Santa Monicas and a longer flat ride home on pch) then ran a quick 10 minutes in prep for next weeks Olympic. I know it's slow for some, but I ran a 7:54 off the bike! Couldnt do that for a 10k, but ive only ever ran a 7:xx in a stand alone 3 mile race. Stoked!!

Great job, Chris. And FWIW, where I come from sub 8 off the bike counts as pretty fast...

Here is some early good luck mojo for next week!

Monday weight in came in at 129.2. Not the lowest I have been since we started the challenge but close.  Being back under 130 makes me happy though.  At my size 5 pounds makes a huge difference.  This just goes to show binges days just are not worth it, even when on vacation.  Such a hard fight back to where you should be.

Sounds like everyone had amazing a really good weekend of racing and training.  Good to hear.

Doh! Forgot to weigh in this morning.  This weekend wasn't terrible for food choices but still not great

Anyway, my quads are a little stiff from the 10k yesterday and my heel is a little sore but not unmanageable.  No high heels at work this

As for today, back to the grind and a build week.  Tonight, i have group swim and the last game of floor hockey.  Playoffs tonight - here's hoping we have a great game!

I did all my PT exercises this morning for the ITB and shoulder, followed by a little trainer time!  Shoulder is starting to feel pretty good, might even attempt a swim later in the week, maybe tomorrow.

I have been afraid to get on the scale since my vacation, but I will set the goal for that happening next Monday!

Skipped my ride yesterday for housework and a drive up Mt. Lemmon. Regretting it a little, but we stained, sealed, and assembled some patio furniture, and dinner outside was pretty darn sweet. I'm not racing anything long until July, so a missed workout now isn't the end of things.

Will ride today after I get home and change my flat front tire. Picked up a thorn on my last ride, apparently.

My little sister is running the Boston Marathon today! She's off at a pace faster than my fastest ever 5k (7:36/mi). She's a beast.

30 windy miles on the bike yesterday. The roadie I got is setup for a grandma so its tough to get under the wind...need a steeper drop but it works. Got up early this morning and got a long run in. Headed to the golf course this afternoon and then all day at the ocean tomorrow where I hope to get quite a bit of swimming in. Finally over the sickness and like I am finally on vacation.

Yeah for your sister.  Hope she has an awesome race.

It is funny that you ran Sat and didn't train Sun.  I get it, but funny.   For those who wonder why, Sat was pretty miserable here.  What you should have done is drove up Mt Lemmon, then got the bike out and had fun on the way down.  lol

TSimone - 2012-04-16 12:52 PM This day can't get much better. I'm on the mend and back to training tomorrow, found out I landed my first sponsor (Xterra) and I booked our Christmas Disney trip. Not bad for a Monday!

That is pretty awesome for a Monday!!!

She went 3:34:10. Not bad, considering the temps.

My friend really needed to run on Saturday, so we went. So cold and wet!!

Nice job on the sponsorship...and Disney trip.  Maybe you should get Disney to sponsor you too...LOL.

Weighed in at 158.4.  Up a couple of pounds, but not surprisingly after I pigged out a bit after my race.  Back to the grind for the next 3 weeks.

ChrisM - 2012-04-14 6:55 PM Question for the group on weight training. No, not should I or shouldn't I, but solely from vanity. . Now that I've lost some weight I am starting to see a little definition in my arms and chest ( a little, but hey). I'd like to just get some more defined muscles, so I look good in those aero shots on the bike. I am not interested in leg work, I get plenty of that. And only have the patience for about 20 minutes, maybe twice a week. I know there's a lifting forum and I can ask there, but can someone here recommend a quick circuit that just works arms, chest and abs? I always walk around the weight room and feel like I have no clue...... Again, I know it won't do much for S/B/R.

chris - you are looking to build some muscle volume which entails heavy weights, low reps.  Circuit training (HIIT type WOs) are not really going to give you what you need.  I can give you a few good workouts, just understand they have no possible cross over benefit other than to "look good".  2x week is sufficient, 20 mins may not be.  do you want me to post?

Is that true?  I really don't know.  Frankly, I am not willing to put in more than 20 mins, if that     And really don't want volume.  I just want to have a little indentation where my shoulder meets my bicep, know what I mean?    Heavy weight low reps does not sound like it goes well with tri training.....

TSimone - 2012-04-14 4:01 PM Chris-I'm a big fan of the TRX.  You can do a lot in 20 minutes.  If interested I can email you a word doc with 10 exercises and a web site that has some videos demonstrating it.

I wouldn't mind seeing that.

thanks

205.2

Not bad, fairly happy with that since my weight seems to be holding steady more or less.  At some point I'll have to buckle down if I want to lose the ability to register as a clyde.....
