Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Redknight - 2010-07-17 8:25 AM Hiya gang. I have pretty much decided to change my life career and get out of the financial industry. I am seriously looking at personal training and nutrition as sports and physical fitness have always been so much a part of my life. I need your assistance a bit. I want to approach the marketing with a different slant and would love to get your opinions on different approaches. My target market will be the 40 to 60+ range. This requires different training strategies. It could be for people not now in shape, those looking to improve their over all fitness or even people who just want to change their lifestyle. I want something unique. I want to go outside the box with this and come up with something totally different. All ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. Don't hesitate to PM or email me. Thanks Very cool Rob, that sounds like it would be pretty fun job. I would think getting some certifications might be a good start, stuff for nutrition and maybe some sort of USAT/USAC coaching certification. I wouldn't think there are that many people that focus on that age set so could be a good market. The trick I think would be thinking of how to get the older set off the couch, not sure some of the same thoughts could be used on the 30 year olds vs 60 year olds. Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rob I would also contact local rehab places. Both my parents (in their 70's and 80's) go to one at least once a weel. My mom had her knees replaced 2-3 years ago. These might be a good target group to help get more aactive. JMTCW. |

I am looking into the certification for sure. I have lots of knowledge but certainly do need the extra eductaitin and certification to be successful. |

One of my fraternity brothers from college bounced around several different jobs before starting his own personal training business. It took about a year to get enough clientele that he could stop bartending on the weekends, but he's pretty happy with the decision he made. |

Thanks Definitely go for some certs - contact KSH here on BT as she has a few certs and might be able to give you more insight. Maybe there are some "active adult" communities in your area? That might be an area to check out. Perhaps they need someone to lead some group exercise classes, etc. You also might benefit from putting together some sort of resistence and stretching classes for people who play golf... Lastly, if you tie in with a nutrionist, the two of you could put on joint presentations to get new clients... |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Quiet day on the MG...is every training or napping ![]() Enjoyed the day in Racine...swam a little, saw my coach for a while and had an early dinner at a place Paul and I never went to when we lived here. Heading to bed soon and keeping my fingers crossed my bike doesn't blow away in the upcoming storm (remember it doesn't touch the ground when hanging on the racks) and the weather clears by 5am when we head to transition....oh and the water is as calm as it was today....all reasonable requests, right? Good luck racers....make it your race and work the plan....stay tough and push a little harder when you want to quit! |

I guess her and hubby wanted to get close to the wildlife it seems....crazy that you can hit a deer in downtown Calgary at 11pm.... ![]() She said Kyla was a ' real piece of work'. I'm sure she meant that in a complimentary way though Kyla. HA!! Stirring the pot. |

Met Mrs. Velcro yesterday for a coffee. Yeah, I may have to hear the logic behind that comment. Ha ha!! I mean, how much can you trust a woman who drives over deer? In city limits? She left that part out of the story... ROB: Check out ACE certification (www.acefitness.org) -- they have several levels of certification in addition to continuing ed classes/certs and at least around here they are the main certification trainers need at gyms and such. My very bestest college girlfriend (and running partner who is doing Portland with me again in October) is a personal trainer who specializes in outdoor fitness classes. She runs several weekly "boot camps" at local parks, where she combines things like running, core work, strength training, etc. Lots of fun and she has built up quite a following over the years. It's nice for her because there is NO overhead and she makes the schedule fit with her life as a mother and athlete. Most of the people she works with are women with children -- pretty much she caters to her own demographic. Good luck and make it work for you! It is so smart to consider an angle or market that might be getting missed. I think there are many people intimidated by gyms (either due to lack of fitness or due to cost) who might respond more to group exercise or one-on-one training in a more personal or low-key setting. Wrapped up the kiddo's swim season today with their division championship meet. My daughter took a pass for the day (it's a LONG day, can't blame her) but my son ate it up and was especially proud to walk away with a heat winner ribbon and otter pop for taking his heat in the 50 backstroke (and a one-second best time). As soon as we got home he wanted to go to the pool to swim, where he proceeded to work on his IMs (that's Individual Medley -- fly/back/breast/free -- NOT Ironman!) diligently while I did my own workout. I've created a monster... and I LOVE it!!! We cannot wait until next summer's country club swim season, but we might have to find another swim team option in the meantime because I don't know if Thing 1 can leave it alone until next May! |
