SSMinnow - 2010-12-29 6:31 AM WOO-HOO, it's WEDNESDAY!!!!  Check your calendars and let us know if you're racing this weekend!  Details people....

For those of us not toeing the line, what's the one goal you are absolutely going to work your tail off to nail in ' 11? what're you going to do to get there?

Can I answer both?

Saturday -Happy New Rear ride - looking at the 38mile route.  That will be subject to change depending on the temp.  I am going to dress warm, but the forecast is for 38 deg and windchill about 30 deg, so if I am freezing, I may have to drop to one of the shorter routes.

As for '11 - consistency, especially in the running dept...

I'm a ZICAM girl myself.  I take it at the first sign of a cold and can usually keep it at bay.

fattyfatfat - 2010-12-30 7:48 AM LOL!  mmr rules!!!!

Please tell me the distances are okay. I use mapmyrun all the time to figure out distance, but I never pay attention to the elevation profile.

they are okay.  edit.  i typed out long boring answer then deleted it because it was long and boring.  so i should add here to keep in mind your definition of okay when relating it back to the accuracy of where you are on the earth.  if you're concerned about tenth's of a mile over say 50 miles then maybe its not okay.

i'm gonna go to the gym and pee in the pool. and then tell the old ladies i did.  and then they'll say wow, very cool you can still tell when you're going.  then after thinking about that for a few seconds i'll get grossed out and leave.

be safe tonight peeps.  please!  its freakin' amateur hour out there.

dalessit - 2010-12-29 2:21 PM Anyone ever get severe cramps in their calves or hamstrings?

Some workouts I have on the trainer have me come to a complete stop in the big ring front and small back, then explode as hard as I can.

Most times when I do this my calf siezes up completely, it hurts enough to cry,  I've had to have sam unclip my foot for me because it hurt so bad and I couldn't move.

Today in the pool I was doing some sprints and tried to push off the wall as hard as I could and my hamstring siezed up similar to the way my calf does.  LOL our "lifeguard" is usually staring up at the wall or sleeping, so luckilly it's a shallow pool or I would have been in trouble.

When these happen I am fully warmed up, they tend to be around the middle of the workout.  I've been doing a lot more stretching lately to help with flexibility, so not sure what else I can do there.

Anyone else ever have these or any ideas how to stop them?

I have gotten cramps during pushes off the wall before. This seems to happen to me most when it is a morning swim after a late afternoon or evening run, or a lunchtime swim after a morning run.  It has never happened on the bike before.  I always relate it to tight muscles from the run vs. electrolytes/hydration because it only seems to happen with the run/swim combination...has never happened after a bike.

Not tomorrow, but after Disney next week, going to be a serious bike focus for me.

BTW, wasn't someone else here doing Disney besides Sam and I?

Oh and it's supposed to be in the mid 50's here today and 60's tomorrow, lol what are we going to do?

Looking at Disney it' supposed to be in the 70's glad we are getting some warmth here this week, quite a shock to go from 30 - 70.

Hey peeps.  Just got caught up on all the posts.  Been a good few days here.  Got my brother from the Syracuse airporton Tuesday.  Made for 8 hours of driving for me by the time we got to my parents house but was well worth it to get him home.  Spent Wedneday in NYC and saw the broadway musical "Promises, Promises"...very funny show!  NYC was still a mess from the snow but they should be good to go tonight for NYE.  Last night had an awesome dinner with my cousins and brother at a family style italian place...good times and good food!  Have to get my head around getting back to reality on Monday - not looking forward to that!

Catching up on a few of Suzy's questions:

My concern for 2011 is the same as a lot of people - balance as I go longer this year.  Traing for a half and for a marathon...fitting that in with little to no impact on family life will be a challenge.

No racing this weekend.  Spending NYE with the extended family tonight and then tomorrow heading back up towards home to the cabin to go skiing with my parents and brother on Sunday.  I don't do new year's resolutions but some things I need to make happen in 2011...get my weight down to around 160-163 and make better use of the morning for training time (to help with the impact on family life mentioned above!).

Tony - Battenkill...I haven't mapped it out but I think that I am about 4 hours or so from there based on where it showed it was on the map.  Might be a little closer to the NYC folks but still a few hours.  A few guys from our club were considering doing that but decided they weren't ready for the pain yet - it is supposed to be a killer!  I heard that it sold out really fast - good luck getting in!

I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year's Eve.

George

My wife said it best 2010 was a year of CHANGE.

We are taking on 2011 as a year of CHALLANGE

For her she is going to try and get out of her comfort box and try new things, new workout programs at her Gym and other things with working out. She works out alone and is not comfortable in group settings. So this year she has signed up for a couple of workout programs at her Gym.

for me it will be more Food control, Better management, micromanagement of eating for weight loss. And pushing myself harder on Runs, Swims, Biking and learning more about myself, my abilities and my limits.

All this while attempting to maintain some balance and still get out and do some scuba diving.

Will post totals later... Just finished up 20 miles in 20-degree temps and capped off 200 miles of running for the month -- my highest run month ever by far. Wheeee!!!

My drinks froze, which made it tricky to drink, obviously! Had to stop and un-cap and sip some slush.

Darling kid moment: Came home and showed my kids my slushy ice drink, shook it so they could hear it was frozen. My daughter exclaimed with pure delight and glee: "Wow!!! Just think!!! You could put artificial flavoring in there and have a SnoCone while you are running. That would be SOOO COOL!!!" Talk about making lemonade out of lemons...

Happy New Year to all!! I'm in search of warm coffee and lots of it!!!

so on my ride today i'm sporting a 310 care of trevor.  (long story, thanks again man).  i'm wearing it under two long sleeve shirts and then my gloves go past my wrist, so i can't see the thing, nor do i want to at this point.  so off i go.  first mile,  it vibrates.  hmmm, i didn't think i was going this fast.  cool though.  second mile same thing and i just kinda stop thinking about it.  actually start wondering why on earth someone want this thing to vibrate all the freaking time.  so i get down to  mile 6, look at the watch and damn, it hit me.  i should have paid more attention at mile one.  this thing is on km's not miles.  i still suck!   and i'm not sure how on earth i didn't pick that up at the first km.

ha!
