Master 2621 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread JorgeM - 2009-12-20 10:56 AM I posted this on my blog: According to Google Earth there are 5063 miles between Boston and Kona. Taking that # and subtracting 140.6 miles from IMLP it means I need to cover around 4922 miles in training. That works around 95mi running, 500mi biking and 30K yds swimming per month that I need to cover between now and July 24th to earn my ticket to the big island. I might need to ride/run less or more since I don’t know when I’ll be able to start swimming but just for fun I am going to try to make that a goal; to cover 4922+ miles over the next 7 months... I wish it was that easy my friend. |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Tsar - it won't be easy though racking up that much volume will certainly be a challenge considering many of those miles will have to come indoors. Still, it is an extra fun element for the challenge to keep me going and certainly if I achieve it, it will set me up in a very good position fitness wise. Livestrong - I don't know but I won't competing against Bryan, I'll be racing against the 35-39 y/o studs. If I make it to Kona then I'll think about that. |

I've seen it here and read it in blogs.... Go to his training log and it will explain it better. I am debating that weekend... just that it's close to Eagleman... I loved the camp last year, but I'm thinking the same about Eagleman. I think I may head up in May instead. I might go in April as well with some cycling friends assuming it isn't snowing. |

Antone else 'over-achieving' like myself ??? I think I have everyone beat in the over-achiever category. I'm up nearly 10 pounds, haven't run for 4 months aside from a few attempts at run/walking (can blame an injury for that) and haven't done anything active except hoist a drink in the past 4 days and not much the 4 days before that. I hope to god fitness comes back quickly! |

I did do a lot of cleaning in preparation for our annual Ugly Sweater Party. So...some calories burned there and my arms are a little toned from all the vacuuming. At this point. I can do all the distances on separate occasions. SO, I'm going to try to work on being STRONGER this year physically (hence the three intro to core strengthening sessions I did last week =) ) and once I get a smidge closer to 2010 THEN I'll think about that whole cardio/endurance element. =p I already know I can go for HOURS cleaning, so not to fear. Champion 9600 Fountain Hills, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread A little too quiet around here... So on a run today I had some more Ironman musings. That's what happens when the 20 degree weather kills you iPod battery in 10min. Anyhoo, I was laughing thinking about some of the funny excuses people were teasing each other with earlier in this thread and it got me thinking about the TOTALITY of an Ironman race performance. I think that there are zero excuses, there is simply the result. GI problems, cramping, equipment troubles, flat tires, and the myriad of other things that occur during the race are all part of it. There's no such thing as "I would have done this time or split if not for this" nonesense. You simply do what you do and accept it. This includes coming into a race not well prepared. So to all you jokers, there will be no post race whinning, there will be no excuses or would of, could of, should of. All times are final, that's the beauty of a race like this. |

Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread ^^^ Yeah, what Bryan said! Here is a question I wonder if anyone has the answer to: They are serving Gatorade Endurance on the LP course, so I want to train using Gatorade Endurance. Is there a difference between Gatorade Endurance Powder and Gatorade Pre-Made? I'm assuming that they will be using Pre-Made on the course. I know there is a difference between regular Gatorade Mix and the Pre-Made in the bottles. |

I know there is a difference between regular Gatorade Mix and the Pre-Made in the bottles. There is nothing on the Gatorade site about the two being different. I trained/train with Endurance and didn't detect any difference when racing, but my GI system is pretty tough so I could be wrong. I mixed it at full strength according to the package and trained all year with it as my primary fuel source so it made racing much simpler. |

Champion 9600 Fountain Hills, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I also have always trained with GA Endurance powder (it's cheaper in bulk) and never had a problem with the bottled stuff on the course, but everyone is different. The key is to make sure you train with the same calorie, sugar, carb, and electrolyte concentrations. With the exception of the HFCS in the bottle, GA Edurance is the same combination. |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Definitely, there are NO excuses when racing. You either execute well or you don't. Yes mechanicals can derail the potential for a great day but that's part of racing and for such a long day as IM you also need some luck. At the end of the day you either achieve your goal or not, and if you fail for whatever reason, it is what it is; take it on the chin and get ready for next time. In terms of GA endurance it has more sodium but besides that is pretty much the same as regular GA. Also as posted above the bottle version is made up with HFCS which is like jet fuel when training/racing. IOW don't listen those making HFCS the evil sugar; when you are training/racing simple sugars are good. There is nothing better than a coke during the run on a race! |
