I think if I actually do replace all that I may get close to $600 (Wasn't that the last one? Are we on #2 or #3 now? It's all blurred together!) Plus the HR monitor and upload cord on my Garmin no longer work; if I ever actually race I need to put on an aerobottle I can actually use. (The one I have does nothing but eject and leak, and I have never successfully used it in a race. I use it to keep nutrition and workout cards in on the trainer.) Arrrgh! Mom and I literally have not shopped in person except for groceries and a few home maintenance essentials for over a year. It's ridiculous what's worn out! I guess I did pick up a few things (winter gloves, hand warmers) at the bike shop when Rover was in for a tune-up but that's it.

I need new MTB shoes.  When was it that Nike stopped making bike shoes?  Yeah, they are that old. I just ordered a new pair of bike shorts.

I haven't been to a store to try on clothing in over a year. I can't say that I miss it, although at some point I expect NC State will call us back to the office and I will probably want to consider a less casual wardrobe.

Even before COVID I did most of my non-grocery shopping on-line, so I haven't really altered my shopping behavior. I keep thinking I want to buy new road shoes which will require a trip to a bike store or 2, but since I'm barely biking outside these days I'm in no hurry.

I've started looking at the NC Mountain ride as a real possibility, so I probably do need to do some real biking soon

I've been seeing rumors about the new Garmin Rally power meter pedals and then I saw a DCR post about them yesterday. For a quick second, I had buyers remorse about the Stages crank arm that I have on order. Then I saw the price difference. I feel much happier now!

For those who have not been following along, I used some of my Pfizer money to order a Stages power meter for my gravel bike.  The GRX models are on backorder. It should arrive next month.  The Pfizer study pays a decent amount every time they need body fluids (they didn't put it that way but that's more or less how it is) -- shots, blood work, nasal swabs.  The swabs that I did for the asymptomatic sub study will get me the power meter.

I was excited too until I saw the price and then I saw that if you have the vector 3s you can get a conversion kit and swap b/w bikes, so excited again Though perhaps I should check out stages to see how the price compares and spare me swapping things. I am still contemplated what to buy with my Novavax study money.

ETA: Stages is $100 more than the conversion kit.

Me too.  I had a great weekend though.  I got my first real outdoor ride in since last October.  Houston is flat.  The Farm to Market Road 30 minutes from my house that I found to ride on had about 3 feet of elevation on the 20 miles stretch of road. The feet of elevation was about 2 more than the number of turns on that road.

Wow! You can compete with Chris in the Manatee Elevation Challenge!  That sounds good for going fast -- unless there is a headwind.

Hooray for Pfizer funding your fun!  Once upon a time I used to work for them; pre-manatees, but I'm still proud of a lot of things Pfizer does and I was glad that the 5G upgrade I received was from their company.

I ordered new Specialized MTB shoes in January --- the LBS told me they should ship in April. Just out of curiosity, I asked about the shoes and now LBS says shipping date is May 5, if at all.

Well, I did almost get blown over by a semi that passed me going in the opposite direction.  There was some wind for sure, without there being any trees or structure, but it was pretty mild wind compared to lots of the rides I did in Oklahoma wind.

Ya...I was going pretty fast. I planned on doing a 25-mile ride in 75 minutes and it turned out to be a 28-mile ride in 72 minutes (and I even had 1-2 minutes of stopped time).

Shot #2 in the books! All that's left is the last 60 days of training and the new bike.

In other good news, I've been cleared to sign up for IM Texas in 22. A special thanks to D1 for moving to the Rio Grande valley and paving the way for Dad to race.

Happy Friday to you, too!  I hope that everyone is doing well and has fun plans for the weekend. I hope to bond with both my road bike and my gravel bike this weekend -- outside! I just need a the weather to cooperate with me. My longer ride is supposed to be some sort of this many minutes Z2, that many minutes Z3 business.  I think that I am going to do next week's plan which is "challenge yourself on the hills" with a total hill time of 60-80 minutes. That sounds better to me and will require a lot less watching the clock.  The total zone time is about the same so that seems fair.

Kevin is "checking the mail."  His friend from TN, also half vaccinated/working from home/no kids, is supposed to be joining him but bailed on the drive yesterday (weather) so who knows?

I think that you are good to go for next weekend.  It looks like your event is in Waynesville, is that right?  I'd be more concerned if it was in the Cherokee area. I'm not sure what the EBCI government restrictions are.  Glory Hound is local to the area and they know how to host events.  Our covid restrictions have are easing slightly today (outdoor mass gathering size goes from 50 to 100). It looks like your start "groups of 40 or fewer runners will start every 10 minutes."

Robin may have some additional insight.

OMG! Ironman's excellent communications continue.  I see that IM Canada folks are getting refunds but have not received communication that the event has been canceled.

(Don't get me started on who gets refunds and if IM follows their own refund policy.)

UPDATE: It looks like this was in advance of an official decision from IM.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it will be a go too, but I imagine IM TX people thought that too   Glory Hound did send an email to the people registered for the 4-miler asking whomever was not planning on attending to tell them no b/c they were over capacity. It was unclear if just the 4-miler was over capacity or if the capacity of 200 was both races and GH was just trying to pick off the 4-milers

Hmm.  I thought they were leaning into the under 50 per timeslot (soon under 100).  I didn't see any special Haywood county restrictions but their website is kinda bad so...

I have to believe IM was forced into canceling IM Canada this far out b/c Canada is more restrictive and consumer friendly than most states. In the US they wait til 0 hour b/c the local and or state governments both allow them to and don't know what they are doing.

I'm still not convinced Choo 70.3 will be a go, not b/c TN isn't open for business, but b/c Chattanooga has been more restrictive  than the state. I keep reading the city is having elections soon, so that may change.

IM events in Florida, however, have 100% chance of being stated since we are completely open for business and the local governments are not allowed to put in any of their own rules over capacity issues or mask mandates. They can require business to require mask and social distance etc and up til about a month ago could fine violators, but then our governor waived all fines gutting the locals ability to get compliance from anyplace that did not voluntarily act responsibly. In case it's not clear, I hate Florida's governor

I'm on a mailing list that gets weekly emails from NC DHHS.  Here's the scoop on running races:

Section 5. Mass Gatherings.

For the reasons and pursuant to the authority set forth above, the undersigned orders as follows:

5.1.Prohibition. Mass Gatherings are prohibited. ··Mass Gathering'' means an event or convening which is in a  category not otherwise covered by this Executive Order, is not excepted by the following provisions of this Executive Order, and brings together more than fifty (50) people indoors or more than one hundred ( I 00) people outdoors at the same time in a single confined indoor or outdoor space. In publicly accessible indoor facilities, the Mass Gathering limit applies per room o fthe facility.

At a park, beach, or trail, or at outdoor events such as parades, running races or festivals, the outdoor Mass Gathering limit of one hundred (100) people applies to each group of people that may gather together.

Yay to racing!
I was surprised IMTX was moved. D1 was in Houston until last week before she moved to Brownsville and it was like the wild West. No rules and every person for them self.
Canada has some very strict consumer protection rules that we don't. Plus they are a lot nicer than Americans
I feel really confident IM Tulsa will be a go. IM just changed the start and finish of the bike course. The finish is in the City of Tulsa, so they had to have approval. I'm feeling positive, because all of us will have our vaccination plus 2 weeks by time we go.
I am really surprised, because there are some really large events scheduled in Michigan, including a marathon. We are at 26% of the adults are vaccinated and they expect 50% by the end of April. It appears that several of the I'm not getting vaccinated people are changing their minds the more people get the shot, without serious issues. I don't have to have the "I don't know what in it/ you eat chicken nuggets and you don't know what's in that" discussion very much anymore.
